I was charged $70 with this shop while Jared tried to charge me $110. Second, to remove a star for political views hurts the business that this owner had put his blood and sweat into making. I am a rapper from California who is neutral and I base my reviews off work, not that pettiness. Some of their employees will only go off hallmarks instead of taking the time to test precious metals using other testing methods. They did not do any kind of buyout process for the stones in the pieces I melted either. In addition, they lack options to create a custom piece. They only had one fine chain option in gold, which was surprising. I decided not to go that route and instead ordered a designer piece. I waited around for about two months to hear for them. I finally called and was informed there had been an issue with the piece, and it had to be remade, yet no one could tell me why. When the remake came in, it was not what I had discussed with the owner. I opted for another designer piece, but they didn't have it in the length I wanted. They told me they could order it but that I would have to commit to it without even seeing the stone first. I contacted the designer directly and found out that the piece was a standard option on their website and that if I ordered through them, I wouldn't have had to commit if I didn't like the stone. It was too late for me to order directly as HJ had already added the extra length. I should have reached out to the designer sooner. I was charged a hefty labor fee for a minor adjustment to the chain. They made no mention of the labor fee and then claimed they gave me a discount on labor as if they did me a huge favor. Most jewelers I've worked with offer complimentary resizing and minor adjustments when a minimum purchase is met. I was often talked down to and made to feel incompetent through my entire experience. HJ took no accountability for their actions during any of the interactions I had with them. I could have saved a few hundred dollars ordering directly from the designer due to Boulders' hefty taxes/fees and HJ's labor fee. I like to support small businesses, but I wouldn't support this one again.

Still intimidated I venture maybe once , twice a year for I think 4 years to see if they still have them. They do and I did try some designs with them. Yet not feeling it. Fast forward to this year, a Wonderful Valentine's Day . We purchased the stones. They are very sentimental to me as I chose to use my wedding ring to create a "mothers ring" Using these stones as they are mine and my daughter birthstone. We added my other daughter's birthstone which-is a peridot. So have to give the store feedback- this purchase was so important to me- yet the process was very disappointing- the stones were put into two plastic bags and then put into a small green bag. The receipt was folded up and put into that bag . Really? We did discuss how to add the stones to my ring and she brought out a big catalog of jewelry supplies- not custom or sentimental about how important it is to create a dream ring that killed the deal for them to design a ring for me- However I am very appreciative that they helped me authenticate family stones that I had . That was very nice of them.
