Welllll so have to say Venturing into a custom jeweler is very intimidating. years ago I saw a stone in the window-could it be an Alexandrite ?I ventured in and yes it was - these are incredibly rare and happen to be my birthstone. Still intimidated I venture maybe once , twice a year for I think 4 years to see if they still have them. They do and I did try some designs with them. Yet not feeling it. Fast forward to this year, a Wonderful Valentine's Day . We purchased the stones. They are very sentimental to me as I chose to use my wedding ring to create a "mothers ring" Using these stones as they are mine and my daughter birthstone. We added my other daughter's birthstone which-is a peridot. So have to give the store feedback- this purchase was so important to me- yet the process was very disappointing- the stones were put into two plastic bags and then put into a small green bag. The receipt was folded up and put into that bag . Really? We did discuss how to add the stones to my ring and she brought out a big catalog of jewelry supplies- not custom or sentimental about how important it is to create a dream ring that killed the deal for them to design a ring for me- However I am very appreciative that they helped me authenticate family stones that I had . I could not be happier with the results of the ring that I had engraved at Darvier! My wedding is tomorrow actually and I took the ring in just a couple weeks ago so I had them on a pretty tight deadline to begin with. My fiance and I had gone to at least 3 different jewelers before Darvier to see about the engraving of my fingerprint on the inside of his band which in and of itself isn't all that difficult, except his ring is titanium...so that threw a wrench in the plans...until we stopped in at Darvier. Seemed like a great plan at first: a custom ring in a reasonable amount of time. However, it took them three tries to get the final product right, and ended up taking almost 6 weeks for a job they told me would be done in 1-2 weeks. On top of that, they charged me extra because they had to re-do the ring due to THEIR ERROR. The final product is nice (though not exceptional), but definitely not worth the hassle. And this ring was exceptionally simple; since they couldn't handle this, there is no way I'd trust them with anything remotely complicated. read more

Lucas was an expert and patient guide who walked us painlessly through mokume gane options for a wedding band over the course of about 6 months. He also crafted a tracer band for the other wedding band to a perfect custom fit. He met an additional challenge by crafting both from metals inherited from a recently deceased family member, and did a great job honoring the metals' inherent nature as well as our vision. The staff as a whole is really into what they do and are super nerdy about all their tools and technology and capabilities. The piece I had made gets lots of compliments and came out even better than the idea I had in mind. They seem to get a lot of joy out of challenging requests and unusual ideas. Tim is a brillant designer. The execution of the designs he did were sloppy. The band, that was designed for 13 diamonds, was returned 5 times before it was correct. 4 of those times were because only 12 diamonds were set in the band, not 13 and one of those times included us being asked if we wanted the bottom of the mine cut diamonds cut off because they came through the bottom of the ring and poked into the finger. The fifth time it was returned the 13th diamond had been set but at an angle. The diamonds we took in, to be set into very specific settings, must have been shuffled together because there were wrong diamonds in all three of the rings. read more
