I bring the kids to Spencer Farm to pick berries in the spring. The kids eat more than they put in the basket! This was my first visit to the farm for fall season and pumpkins. I was looking for heirloom pumpkins for decor and for a still life painting. The crew was watering the mums when we arrived before noon opening on Sunday. The mums were luscious and just starting to bloom. A cart selling Noble Coffee had a lazy aging dog sleeping underneath. Pumpkins and gourds lined the building in neat rows. I found a blue pumpkin that I needed. When the shop opened, kids headed towards the fields for pick your own pumpkins. I was surprised that raspberries were still on the vines for you pick. I headed into the shop to look around. Spencer bottles and sells their own salad dressings and preserves. Fall and Christmas giftware was out. But, a case full of pies caught my eye. Peach, blueberry, cherry, apple and more. I selected a slice of blackberry. I enjoyed my pie outside on their little patio. The pie was delicious. (They The They also sell fudge and ice cream.) The winery is a new addition since my last visit. The winery wasn't opened, but I will check it out on my next visit. Spencer Farm is a great place to visit and pick up fresh produce. read more

I will admit that I'm not much of a farm dude, though my father actually grew up on a tobacco farm. There's no tobacco here. At least not in the fields. I had the chance to accompany a friend to Spencer Farm for a relatively brief visit. While it was pretty brief, I was impressed. Spencer Farm was started by, you guessed it, the Spencers - Lori and Kyle. It started out as Spencer's U-Pick in 1982. They started out with strawberries. By 1986, they moved to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road. They expanded to include red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. They've added pumpkins, asparagus, grapes, Christmas trees, and their son founded a winery that now also sits on the farm grounds. Spencer's now does pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit. In 2008, they further expanded the farm with a variety of Indiana products including ice cream, fudge, pies, jams, jellies, etc. As you can tell, I immediately wanted to see their sunflower field. I love, love, love sunflowers. One of the reasons I'm not particularly a farm dude is because farms are seldom very accessible. While Spencer's isn't perfect, there's a STRONG effort here to be accessible. I was honestly surprised and impressed. You could send me to the gift shop, and I could be a very happy camper. I will note that they have a strong photography policy. It's on their website, but if you're taking professional equipment I'd read the policies first as there are requirements. There's an awful lot to love here. The people are friendly. The farm is well laid out and surprisingly accessible (the fields obviously have some issues - they're fields). There's accessible parking close to the entrance. This would be a great place for families. Children should definitely enjoy it. There's a strong element of faith here, and that's radiated in the beauty of the surroundings and the service. read more

This farm has a decent sized parking area and allows you to pick some of your own produce (when in season) or purchase pre-picked produce in their shop. They have strawberries, red raspberries, asparagus, pumpkins, grapes and sunflowers, depending on the time of the year. They are very active on social media, so they keep followers up-to-date on the status of their crops and seasons. They have a shop where you will find pre-picked crops, fudge, ice cream, pies, muffin and bread mixes, peanut butters, snack mix, jams/preserves, popcorn, aprons and sauces. In addition to the crop that you could also pick your self, they have seasonal items that they bring in that include tomatoes, black raspberries, and peaches. It is a neat little shop and the staff is very friendly. You will find rockers and a table and chairs in the front of the shop and some tables and chairs on the side, where you can sit and eat. There is a winery in the front of the farm's grounds, but I did not check it out. I was on a mission to get some black raspberries. I also ended of getting a slice of the berry pie, which was delicious. I highly recommend getting some of their pies. You will not regret it. The black raspberries were ok. They were a little bitter than what I was expecting and as compared to the red variety. Now if you are expecting super low prices because you are buying direct, I found that shopping here was not the case. You are getting freshness though and if you do pick your own, that is a cool experience as well. This is a neat little farm located near Westfield, about 35 minutes outside of the city. read more

Do I recommend this place?! Absolutely!!!! This place is a 10 out of 10 a total knock out! I had an absolute blast. I went early in the day before the heat hit, and I couldn't have picked a better time honestly! The farm is beautiful, lovely rows and rows of strawberries! As you walk by it smells like summer! No pesky bugs only a warm sun, and plump strawberries to pick. I went on a Tuesday, no crazy crowds very seamless and easy going. I picked out my basket and filled up and went on my way. I had a sponsored work event at the pumpkin patch at Spencer farms, and it was a great time! I have never been to a pumpkin patch with as good of a selection of good quality pumpkins as here. The patch is a bit of a hike from the main parking spot, but you are able to move your car to the back lot. They have wagons ready to help with carrying the pumpkins back to car. I would bring some gloves and scissors / knife to remove the pumpkin from the root because most are still attached. It is right next door to the winery, so you could always pair them together. Plus in the gift shop they have many other fresh good and plants. I would definitely recommend attending here! read more

Spencer's has it down to a T on handling the crowds as well, they have tons of help, and people directing you where to pick, they keep it very organized and moving. This is a great farm that wasn't super crowded, even on a beautiful Saturday! By the time we got here, raspberries were picked out, so we may try and come again in the morning another week. Luckily they apparently last until the first frost. We were lucky to hit the grapes when they were available, even though they have a short 2 week lifespan! This was my first time to visit a sunflower experience! It was so pretty! They have so many sunflowers to take pictures of, to cut stems yourself and take home and a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. When you pull in you will need to go past the grape vines and the gift shop and turn right and head straight back. You can't see the sunflowers from the road. Someone will be in a little red house and you can pay there. $5 admission and $3 per stem if you decide to take some home. You will get a strawberry stamp on your hand showing you paid. You don't pay for your stems until you're done. You can bring your own scissors to cut or they have some that are provided. The gift shop has fresh baked pies, fudge, ice cream as a few delicious indulgences you can choose from. They even have those great Bavarian roasted pecans, cashews, and almonds! They have so many jams, salsas, baking mixes, kettle corn, apple butter goods to fill a pantry! They all looked so good! They had fresh blueberries, blackberries, peaches, and tomatoes. I actually bought the cutest strawberry jam topper and some Bavarian roasted almonds and a cold XXX root beer. What a winning combination lol! Next time I will have to try the fudge and check out the winery that's on the same property. Definitely a pretty area to enjoy seeing the sunflowers. We have stopped in at Spencers Farms store for some yummy pies and fudges, but this was the first year we went sunflower picking, Concord grape picking and mums picking at their You Pick Fields! We had a fantastic time! The grapes are delicious the kids think it's the coolest thing to pick your own fruits and eat them! It's such a fun activity for the family. They also have you pick pumpkins we plan to do. In the store they have ice cream and it's always a must have when stopping in. I have nothing but great things to say about Spencer's! Ok - pick your own strawberry farm. They also have raspberries. The fields are ripe and the plants have great tasting fruit. Rush out there before the picking is over. It goes pretty fast. It's a nice system, they give you boxes and send you down a specific row. It was fun to pick and the families with little kids were good entertainment while I worked on having enough to make jam. They also have a cute little store, they have some house goods, ice cream, fresh baked pies (hubby had two pieces this afternoon). Great family outing to have fun picking fresh strawberries! When you arrive be sure to drive past the 1st building and follow signs to the back to where the picking fields are. They have crew wearing yellow shirts that will give you a box to collect strawberries in and tell you which row to pick from. Each row has white flags to let you know where the previous customers stopped picking to help you find areas that aren't over picked. Should you need a bathroom break, there were a few port-a-potties by the fields. When you finish picking, head to the red hut that passed out the boxes to have your strawberries weighed. They will then write the price on a sheet of paper and you drive to the building by the farm entrance and take that paper inside to pay. Credit cards are accepted and they have snacks inside to purchase as well. Our kids and many others that were there definitely enjoyed tasting the fresh strawberries while picking them. What a wonderful little farm! Not too far from town, this charming space offers pumpkin and berry picking in the fall, sunflowers in the summer, and ice cream and fun all year round! You can dig your own mums or purchase from the farm store. Lots of spots for the perfect photo op too. There was a man and a golden retriever driving a golf cart thanking everyone who came out - the owner I'm assuming . Very COVID friendly with lots a space and great produce to choose from. The pumpkin patch at this farm is super cute. After parking, you can take a hayride to the patch or drive your car. There are a few areas for pumpkins, so don't forget to walk to the back area. They charge per pound. We paid about $10 for two decent sized pumpkins. The store has ice cream, fudge, and some other baked goods, along with all the other stuff you would expect at a little game store. We also tried the winery. $5 for a wine flight, not too bad. It is typical Indiana wine, so keep that in mind. read more

Spencer Farm exceeded my expectations! I moved to the area a year ago and saw that I had just missed sunflower season. It's a short, weather dependent, 2 week season. Not wanting to miss it again, I put it on my calendar a whole year in advance. All sunflower dreams were fulfilled when I went this past weekend! Here are some details of how it works so you can plan your own dreamy sunflower experience: - Awesome photo opportunity for landscapes and family/friend portraits. - Great for a date, family, or friend group outing. - Call/watch social media to know when they open. For example, Friday was going to be the opening day but was closed due to rain. Saturday opened but later than planned due to rain as well. I heard the first open day was busy. - The field can be muddy. Don't where sandals or running shoes you like to keep clean. - Costs $5 per head for entry. - $3 per stem (like from ground up, basically the whole stalk!) If there's more than one flower on a stem you get the whole bunch for $3 - Process: Follow signs to drive back to the sunflower fields. Park. Stop at first red booth to pay admission. Walk through sunflower field to get to a second red booth where they provide scissors, tell you what areas are available for picking, wrap your picked flowers, and pay for flowers. - They take both credit cards and cash. - Even though it's cool to take a pic with a whole sunflower stalk it was a lot to put in the car and trim off later for my vase. - May want a tarp or blanket to lay down in car depending how many stems you pick and how clean you like to keep your car. We had a lot of fun picking strawberries today. I think we would come back for their other seasonal produce items (examples: asparagus, raspberries, grapes, sunflowers, and pumpkins). I feel like most of the people picking weren't very familiar with how tedious it can be. So, if you're new to strawberry picking, you might want to start with a quart. It also provides nice big juicy blueberries - so so fresh and delicious! The raspberries don't need the nets. We were early I. Raspberry season, but still were able to get our fill. Hints: 1) call or check the website to confirm what you want to pick is available. 2) get there early - once a bush is picked if it's ripe fruit, it is done for the day. 3) pick off the bushes that are as far from the store as possible. Not to mention the free hayride it gives for all ages! From the start, there is no entrance fee. This farm makes money from only what you pick or purchase on the farm, how cool! Granted, I went on a weekday afternoon but it was so much more relaxing than the crazy orchards around town. Parking is free. Dig your own mum (shovels and pots provided) for under $5, or buy a pre-potted one at the farm store up from for $6. Walk out (or catch a hayride) out to the pumpkin patch to find your perfect orange sphere. Depending on what's growing, pick red raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, etc. I took the easy route and grabbed a mum and pumpkin from the store, but I intend to return and dig my own mum and work for it. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I happened upon it this fall because most apple orchards/pumpkin patches are closed on Sundays (seriously, what's up with that?). Anyway- good luck for me, because we had a delightful visit to Spencer Farms. Delightful is the exact right word. We took a walk through the raspberry patch and loaded up on some fruit, picked our giant Halloween pumpkin out Charlie Brown style, and enjoyed all the cute gifts/decor in the shop. Oh, I should also mention, they do not shirk you on their free sample, and I was there for it! We got hot cider for our walk, and I imagine the beverages change with the season. It was a cute quiet little farm. Staff was very friendly. We went on a Monday around 4pm. ( They close at 6pm everyday ) We went in the farm store pretty reasonable priced.
