The Sphinx initially presents itself like a paradox. It advertises as a restaurant that offers a little bit of everything in terms of ethnic cuisine. You can have Greek, Mexican, Americana and Southern food. It's sort of like a diner since the variety is pretty diverse. I have been to Nashville numerous times and always stayed clear away of this place. I thought how good can the food be since they offer so much ethnic choices, boy was I wrong. We ordered the Falafel wrap and deep fried catfish platter which came with pita and a salad. The Falafel was fried perfectly and very tasty. The catfish was lightly breaded and the fish was moist and more importantly flavorful. The pita was warm and delicious. It's always nice to see a manager walk around asking us and the other patrons how our food was. It shows me that they care about the customers. The place aesthetically is lame and there is no table service, simply order and pay the cashier. After your food is ready pick a table and enjoy your meal. No one cleans up after you so make sure you dump your own trash. I was quite surprised on how delicious and reasonably priced the food was. The portions are generous and more importantly delicious. This place is awesome. I have been driving by it to and from work for months but finally tried it today. I ordered a Gyro Plate and was beyond impressed. The plate came with rice, your choice of toppings, freshly warmed pita bread, and the largest amount of gyro meat that I've ever seen. The price was perfect for what I received. I wish they would've had the cucumber salad that other places do, but who cares? The meat was amazing and I had more than enough food! They also have breakfast and American food, which is probably super convenient for the apartment complex behind them. I'd be there every day if I lived that close. One of the most confusing places Ive ever eaten. The food was great, but staff was hard to understand (and I'm good at that) and weren't really able to answer questions. The gyro plate was excellent with salad and rice and pita, but the enchilada plate was literally two enchiladas on a plate. All was tasty, but was just hard to deal with. read more

I have been here 3 times and each time it was great. The first time I got Mexican and it was great. The second time I got humus and a falafel wrap. Fantastic. The 3rd time I went on Sunday for breakfast. Fried plantains. Yom! The baklava is good too. They have great ice cream and good sodas. The kind with sugar cane, not high fructose corn syrup. I order a Torta. The smashed beans on the bread was EXPIRED. Oh my, I could've never imagined. Worse, I didn't realize it was expired until I made it halfway back to work. When I got back to the restaurant, the lady tasted the beans and said that's just how beans that Mexicans make taste like. Oh my, I surely know when something is EXPIRED and I'm also quiet familiar with Mexican food. Beans made by Mexicans does not smell or taste like sickness. The lady went on to say she prepared the beans that day. Her younger co-worker said she didn't see her prepare the beans that day. Nonetheless, I order a burrito. The lady charged me $2 more for the burrito instead of discounting it since I had to drive all the way back and for having to wait so long. I used to come here and order food a lot. I've come to Sphinx a number of times to get a greek salad with gyro meat and I am always delighted. It comes with a generous amount of meat and I love that I can customize exactly how I want else I want on my salad. The staff are pleasant and kind. The price is fine. This was the best Greek salad and kebab that I have had in years. The cucumber dressing was so fresh and tastey. The service was genuinely friendly and the restaurant was notably clean and properly maintained. I've only been here once and it was to get a gyro. It was near where I was attending a workshop for my job. I was able to order quickly and waited 6-7 minutes for my food. If you have a short lunch break don't expect it to be as fast as McDonald's or something. They don't have a drive-thru and it takes a couple extra minutes. But a large gyro for $5 is much better than a McD's burger. As far as the gyro, it was a large pita stuffed full. The pita taste was fine, but it was very thin. I prefer something a little thicker. The thin pita held everything okay, but it wasn't very easy to bite pieces off. They had to be torn off. It was easier to eat it with a fork than as a sandwich. I liked the taste of the meat and the toppings. The toppings were cut very well, into smaller cubes. Some places have large slices of tomatoes, cucumbers and onions, but with that you don't get a taste of each in every bite. The smaller pieces work better. read more

Sphinx is my favorite lunch place in this area. From the east you are greeteded when you come in to the food you get - everything is tips! There people at Sphinx are extremely friendly, I do not often see a smile on a restaurant when I am asked what side items I would like to have with my gyros - here this is the norm. The foods is excellent, plentiful and priced exactly right. I usually have the gyros plate, I only take half the rice and it is still plenty, the side items are always freak and tasty, especially the Tabuli, the meat is always freshly made on the grill, the Pita bread is fresh and earn, and the cucumber sauce is excellent. I have eaten Gyros in quite a few places in the Us and Sphinx is in my top 3. read more

Horrible. I had them deliver to my office and I said Chicken, they delivered Lamb. The fries were old, so I asked for new fries when they brought the new sandwhichs the delivery guy came back with no fries. When he came back i showed him the fries and he reluctantly said he would come back with new fries. When he came back he argues with me and tells me to just call and get a refund. NEVER again.
