My husband and I stop here whenever we go on long road trips east. Take it from an Indian woman who has eaten at plenty of Indian restaurants--this place is LEGIT. We ordered the paneer tikka masala, the spicy Indian chicken curry, chili paneer, Shalabi mango lassi, and cucumber cooler (yes this place has wonderful cocktails!). Because my husband is American, most people don't believe he can take spicy food, but these folks made it as spicy as we like it (which is VERY spicy). Service is at a reasonable pace as well (can't rush good food). I recommend to anyone who wants to get authentic Indian food with quality cooking and healthy portions. It's nice to have a variety of authentic food choices from different cultures, and Spicy India adds another quality option to Abilene's restaurant lineup. We went to Abilene to a bridge tournament at the civic center and were there for two days. One block away, we found Spicy India and ate there both nights. The food was cooked very fresh, I am certain that they toasted and ground their spices every day, the spicing (which is the art portion of Indian cooking) was clever and really outstanding and had the quality of obviousness you get when the spices are fresh. I particularly recommend the Indian Eggplant, the sauce was unique and really wonderful. The cooking was on a level with big city high end Indian cooking and yet the prices were lower than high end Abilene restaurants. Presention was very good, the chef was very accommodating and was very happy to make me an off the menu item for our second night and had it ready when we got there. This is my ultimate lesson I'm not judging a book by its cover. My family and I were driving through Abilene and did not think that we would get actual spicy Indian food. But we had an itch for paneer and stopped in. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE. We asked for everything extra spicy and they for sure delivered. My dad said this is the best Indian food he has ever had. And we are Indian, we know our food haha. Thank you to the uncle who gave me a lassi because I definitely needed it but it was so so so worth it! He gave us a bullet naan to try and it was perfect. I ate 2 just by myself, which normally never happens. This was the perfect, unexpected discovery! We got the paneer tikka masala, mattar paneer, and garlic naan. Everything was hot and flavorful. The food was absolutely delicious. We had a skewer, the samosas, and a few different curries. There wasn't anything I did not like. My only complaint is that the service was kind of slow, but it might be because they had only been open for a few weeks. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt! I can't believe the reviews of this place. I've yelped all over the country (mostly ethnic places) and I've never seen a place so far off of base on the Yelp rating. It honestly makes me wonder if they've managed to game the system somehow. There is one review that talks about how surprisingly clean the place is yet the floor was so remarkably dirty I actually took a picture of it. My shoes stuck to the floor as I walked across the dining room and to my UTTER SHOCK, when I stood up to leave, my shoe literally stuck to the floor and came off my foot! There was not one component of our meal that appeared freshly made. The "chicken" (mostly chopped up bone) in my biryani was clearly old and dried out/reheated and then mixed with rice which I suppose could have been made recently. I have tolerance for mom and pop shops. In fact, I love them, but this place takes advantage of a customer's good faith that you'll get what you pay for. We paid $47 for two people and left wondering if we should go somewhere else for dinner. I wasn't about to try to send back everything we ordered so we just ate what we could and left. Maybe they have good days or maybe it was cleaner when it first opened. I don't know but I feel like I got tricked out of $50 based on the Yelp stars. read more

This is a superlative Indian food restaurant. It was clean. I was greeted and served by friendly and attentive waiters. The Chicken Tika Massala was perfectly cooked and very flavorful, but not overpoweringly spicy. The menu displayed a wide variety of dishes - many that are staples of Indian food in the US but some I'd never seen anywhere else. I was shocked to find such a gem in Abilene, but this restaurant could easily compete with Indian food places I've visited in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. I've been here twice now; once right after they opened and again this week. The service was improved from my first visit so they seem to be working out those issues. The food is still great. I got the samosas, gobi Manchuria, tikka masala, butter chicken, garlic naan, and palak paneer. It was all fantastic. My 60 year old aunt and 13 year old daughter thought the gobi (cauliflower) was chicken until I told them after we finished. The sauces were spicy and flavorful. One daughter who can't handle heat (even black pepper) complained about the butter chicken and palak, so if you are also heat-intolerant, make sure to avoid this place, as I'm not sure the kitchen can remove enough pepper. I'm not one of those capsaicin thrill seekers and found the regular spicy tolerable, but noticeable; no taste buds were harmed. :) The second visit consisted of plain naan, mango lassi, chicken kadai, and veg Manchuria (because I loved the gobi version so much). The Kadai was flavorful and full of chicken and chunks of vegetables, perfect scooped up with some basmati rice and a piece of naan. The vegetable Manchuria left much to be desired...the "vegetables" turned out to be these hard balls reminiscent of a hush puppy but hard (seriously) and dry. The Manchuria sauce was still fantastic so I did bring the leftovers home to suck off those sad spheres. The mango lassi was my first ever but so good; think mango smoothie, very thick, lots of mango flavor with a yogurt undertone. Just discovered Spicy India and it is wonderful! I have been 4 times in two weeks and have loved everything I have tried. I am a vegetarian so I am SUPER happy that half of the menu is available for me to chose from. I have had the samosas & the gobi manchurian appetizers, the vegetable korma, the palak paneer, the aloo gobi & the garlic naan bread. Every single thing has been delicious and fresh! I think they may be slightly understaffed but I would definitely come eat here again because I loved the food. We got Chicken Korma, Chicken Curry, and Lamb Curry.
