An all-vegetarian Indian restaurant about a 10 minute drive from the centre, so we did takeout one night. Most of their dishes are vegan, with the vegan items listed on a separate menu We opted for the mixed veg curry, aloo gobi, and eggplan madrassi. Not sure if it was our ordering, but all three came with pretty much the exact same masala-type sauce. Quite tasty, albeit on the oily side, and the variety was lacking. Bit of a red flag with their vegan menu. Those on a vegan diet choose to avoid animal products, including meat, dairy, egg, or for some, honey and/or non-ethically sourced palm oil. This particular restaurant's vegan menu includes Vegetable Egg Rolls, as well as a picture of Saag with pieces of butter melting on top. When I called for clarification, they stated that the butter depicted on the Saag on their vegan menu may not actually be butter - it could instead be paneer (Indian cheese). I'll give the employee the benefit of the doubt - he likely wasn't looking at the photo on their online menu, so couldn't see that it truly was butter. The concern was that he didn't even realize that paneer isn't vegan. When I asked him about this, he consulted with a coworker in the kitchen... I could overhear them and together they eventually decided that any dairy is in fact not vegan. I then asked about the Vegetable Egg Rolls on their vegan menu. He admitted that the egg rolls were indeed vegan since they had no dairy. I therefore asked if they used vegan eggs, and he admitted that they did not. So despite an initially epic-appearing vegan menu, the staff at this particular restaurant seem to be unaware of what is and what is not vegan. I have noticed this little place of a few trips into Saskatoon but had yet to try it. Not many reviews here. I had a look at a few other sites and it had some decent reviews so this time I stayed at one of my favourite hotels chains that had a location near by. I walked over thinking that the buffet got some good marks and frankly, if you don't know a place well, if they have a buffet it can be a good place to start. In my case I enjoy Indian and I like buffets because I can have a little of this and a little of that. Always good to have variety! So Indian food can be a little daunting. Buffets are also good because you can try things you otherwise might not. They also seem a little lighter on the spices to be agreeable with everyone. Indian is also very regional. Much like Texas BBQ is different from St. Louis or Tennessee. You get the point. Buffets also change... chances are that they have a few staple dishes (Butter Chicken for example) that are always on the menu. Tonight I had the Butter Chicken, Paneer Labandar, Mushroom Karahi over a version of Saffron like rice. A mildly spiced rice similar to what I know as yellow Saffron rice. The Butter Chicken was average. Could have been a little creamier. Not saying it was bad, just very ordinary. I really enjoyed the Paneer which is a mild cheese in small blocks in a sauce made with milk, tomatoes and spices. It was very tasty. Had a little bit of seconds of this. A little different version than I am used to, not drastically, the region thing. Nice. The Mushroom Karahi is a chunky mushroom dish with chunks of red and green pepper, onion in a sauce of ginger and a few other things. Again, another one of those, I'll have just a little more, dishes! Did I mention the Buffet is $19? No? Slipped my mind.... $19 dollars well spent, I think. It certainly hit the spot. While it may not be the most gourmet experience in Indian, I will be back and I hope they have exactly the same menu out! The interior was very clean. Not extremely busy with the eat in crowd but it was obvious they do a good take out business with people coming in to grab their orders and quite a number of "Skip" deliveries going as well. Not a high end set up, looked more like a fish and chip shop but there's nothing wrong with that. Quite a lot of ethnic take outs which tells you they have a good following in the Indian community. I came here to grab some takeout but the actually had a buffet. I decided to try it. A nice selection of dishes. Tasty. It's not as spicy because it's a buffet. But I would recommend it. Service was friendly, things tasted fresh. read more

Delicious and reasonably priced option for Indian cuisine. I absolutely love their bharta and coconut curry. They clearly label for people with dietary restrictions. Comes steaming hot and delicious as takeout every time. Garlic naan is extra garlicky which is amazing. You can choose your level of spice so that you aren't overwhelmed or have no say in the level of spiciness which some places do not offer. Highly recommend, they are my go to place for takeout in Saskatoon! read more

The first time we ordered from Spicy Time it was delicious. It has declined drastically each time after to the point where we will not be ordering from here again. Why even give a spice level choice if you're just going to give us inedibly-hot food anyways? The same exact order has been incredibly inconsistent - we've gotten the wrong food several times.
