I liked that when he came to give me a quote he took a photo of the tree and highlighted on the photo where he would be trimming and how he'd go about it. This was much clearer and easier to understand than some other folks who gave me quotes and just gestured toward the tree. He explained his approach and why he suggested it and I felt very confident that he was knowledgeable and experienced. He also took great care not to squash a bunch of plants I had just planted under the large branch he had to cut off. He lowered it down carefully. I was very impressed that he did this without me having to ask. His quote was reasonable too. And he gave me a recommendation for another company to fertilize my trees. He's also just a really nice guy. I'd use him again for sure.

When they were done, the hedges looked like they belonged in a fun house, the trees were scalped down to nothing and both of the new bushes were dead. When I contacted John to replace the dead bushes (they gave us a guarantee / warranty for a year on them and it had only been 6-7 months) he made every excuse he could think of (bad soil, no water, etc. even though the previous bushes in the same spots were fine) then told me to "take to social media". We agreed to trim all to the fence line in the back, as well as trimming of a row of bushes, and two big ones in the front on a fixed price. They showed up on time the next day with a mid-size truck, with four family members, only one seemed like a professional worker. There was no chipper, and they had to cut the branches by chain saws to stack on the truck. Half way on the side, he wanted to charge $300 more to cut down a small tree, about 10-12 inches trunk on our property. I didn't have budget, so we skipped it. To the back, which was the main reason that I need to clear to the fence line, because of the branches grew from the other easement side, that have grown reaching the power line, then he threw tantrums. Upsetting, yelling, climbing on a ladder with an extended chainsaw trying to cut it. He finally cleared some of it, but I'd rather not risking to have him fall, so I gave up, kept telling him to stop. Next, this rental property was neglected by the tenants, therefore the backyard ground was littered with leaves, small branches. I assumed that was part of clean up after the job, but he said he did me an extra favor to blow them off. So, if you hire him, spelled it out. I also had another two gardeners to mow and clear the front lawn. They went ahead trimming the row of bushes and two big ones, which he supposed to do. That gave him a break. Basically, his semi-truck wouldn't fit all the branches if he did the whole thing as agreed. A tip, call Duke Energy and request them for a tree trimming near their power line. They will come out and do it for a free of charge. Save yourself from expense and headaches.
