I recently joined Pacific Island Fitness and reviewed the membership agreement. The facilities are…read morenice, but the contract has a significant problem: it omits a disclosure that Hawaii law requires. HRS § 486N-6 requires every health-club contract to disclose the buyer's 5-business-day right to cancel. That disclosure is completely absent from my agreement. Instead, the contract states that "ALL cancellations require a 30-day cancellation notice" and that a $125 cancellation fee may apply. This isn't just a missing courtesy or minor detail. HRS § 486N-11(c) specifically states that any health-club contract that fails to comply with Chapter 486N is unenforceable against the buyer. Accordingly, if this contract is noncompliant as it appears to be, PIF cannot rely on that contract to enforce its $125 cancellation fee against the member. Hawaii law also expressly classifies violations of Chapter 486N as an unfair or deceptive act. I hope Pacific Island Fitness corrects its membership agreement so new members are given the disclosures and protections Hawaii law requires.

The locker rooms and bathrooms are really dirty and often emit a really unpleasant odor. In the pictures you can see there is possibly mold growing or something else making the walls fall apart. Come on, the Planet Fitness down the road is in better condition. My biggest complaint is there aren't any available lockers!!! I don't understand why this gym lets people keep lockers overnight. No other gym I've been to allows this. This means that there's no room to keep your valuables when working out or showering. You will frequently see people lugging their gym bags all over the workout area because they don't have a locker to put their things in. It's really frustrating. My hope is that the owners change this policy to one where lockers are day use only, which is standard among every other gym I've been to on the mainland and in Hawaii. Additionally, there is a very limited offering of workout equipment, most of which is for weight training and not cardio. There are about 5 treadmills and 4 ellipticals, one of which is broken. The sauna breaks frequently too and last year the pool was drained for months on end. In summary, this gym is unclean and isn't big enough for the needs of the community. For a membership that costs about 100 dollars a month, I would expect a much better quality experience. Front desk employees are pleasant. Parking during mid day frequently is full.

Needed to get my sweat on while on this little corona-cation. Luckily Yoga Hale was still offering…read moreclasses. I jumped at the chance missing my hot yoga back home. Quick easy process to sign up and sign waiver online. When I arrived, Chantel, the teacher greeted me at the entrance and checked me in. It didn't look like the information was received on her end, but it was again, a quick easy process. After paperwork and payment, she guided me back to the studio. It appeared to be a maze through another studio with curtains surrounding the workout floor and through another with a curtain. This was a smaller studio with about 8 infrared heating elements around the perimeter. There were only three students, including me. Chantel is in incredible shape and she led her class in a way that resembles that. Although I've taken hot yoga classes before within this lineage, she strayed a bit from the normal routine and it pressed me to work harder than I had in the past. Luckily, I survived! She very much tailored the class to the participants, which was very cool. This is a really cool studio with multiple areas for exercise and even a tatoo shop in the back! Her sound healing class is one of the best I have ever attended, it really balanced some issues I have in my vagal nerve due to childhood ptsd. I felt a lot more grounded the week I attended the sound healing. She also knows how to instruct people into difficult poses. She eases the student into difficult poses at the level they are capable of, so they can evolve into the pose without injuring themselves. Her graceful teaching style definitely shows her years of experience and wisdom . Yoga Hale is a cozy beautiful home environment that I really enjoy and gotten a lot of healing from. I highly recommend!

It completely changed the way I look at yoga, at my practice and at my teaching in ways I couldn't have imagined. The training combines anatomy, physiology, yoga and spirituality into a something so meaningful. Abhaya and Satyam are amazing teachers - they know and live what they teach and bring a serious but light hearted presence to the practice. I'm in love with this practice and I think it is the way of the future.

The "studio" is a wooden deck covered with a white canvas "tent", overlooking a garden with a gorgeous Boddhi tree with the beauty of the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. It's a very new studio, classes are affordable, and it is NOT crowded (yet). It is well worth the drive from Kona or any surrounding area to take a class. The atmosphere itself made me fall in love and my yoga practice that much more enriching that day.

Since then, it has become one of my favorite places to visit whenever I'm in Kona. The studio is small, intimate, clean, peaceful, and has such a sweet, calming atmosphere. I've enjoyed every class I've taken, and the instructors are wonderful -- welcoming, knowledgeable, and each bringing their own special energy. There was a change in ownership this year, and I really feel the management has improved. Last year there were quite a few last-minute class cancellations, which could be frustrating. But when I stayed in Kona for the entire month of July this year, I didn't experience a single cancellation. Everything felt much more consistent and organized, and somehow the overall vibe of the studio felt even better. Yoga Nest feels like a little sanctuary in Kona. I'm already looking forward to going back when I return to the island! ‍
