When I first start going to the gym, I was so excited because crunch is an amazing gym with an…read moreawesome business model. But there are constant problems on the maintenance side of things. Often times there's no soap in the soap dispensers in the men's room, the men's urinal, there's only one, hasn't been working for six weeks, machines breakdown and they don't fix them, and pads where you put your legs or arms are totally worn through the vinyl deep into the padding, and it will stay like that for months, and still nobody is replacing those. Absolutely pathetic.

I signed up for a membership at this Crunch location, not realizing just how packed it would…read moreactually be. For that reason and other factors, I canceled my membership, but I was charged for months afterwards. To keep this short, when I called to ask for a refund, the staff were friendly, but it ultimately is up to the manager, who is currently Josh, to issue a refund. Josh is very hard to reach - he's always "busy" (at least, that's what it feels like he instructs his staff to say). He made several false promises to me about my refund being on its way and when I asked him to send over documentation, he said "You don't believe me?" and he never sent over a single document. In the end, it took me 15 phone calls and 6 months to obtain my refund. His email is gm@crunchmadison.com but I wouldn't expect a response. Your best bet is to ask for him directly when you call or to physically stop in the gym and wait for him to come out of his office.

A few machines are like this, and this one has been like this for three or four months. This is unfortunate, because it's a great gym.

They have a special of 2 6-week sessions for $140 so it's a pretty good deal. This class definitely helps you be more comfortable in your own skin and become more confident. I could see that in myself and in a lot of the other women in the class. The studio itself is one big room with 8(?) poles evenly spaced from one another. The mirrors are a little wonky so sometimes is hard to see yourself. There are changing rooms before you walk into the big room and a bathroom on the very opposite side of the entrance. No outdoor shoes in side and you can be barefoot or in socks while in class. The 1 hour classes would start with check-in (which sometimes took longer than needed) and about 5-10 minutes of stretching. We would then go over what we learned the week before and learn 2-3 new spins and a sequence of lap/floor/chair moves and then the last 5 min or cleaning your pole and stretching. Our instructor Melissa was great. Really friendly, super knowledgeable about all the moves. 1 hour to practice and then remember was really difficult for me though. I felt like it was not enough time to really perfect the move and grasp the choreography. I'm a perfectionist and wanted to practice it until I got it down. We learned a routine on the last session but I feel like it would be fun to learn a routine at the end of the every class or do like a routine add on with each class so that you could keep re-practice the moves week by week. They do have open pole hour for you to come in and practice but they're right at 5 or 6pm. Right now during Covid-19, they are offering virtual donation-based classes which is great for those lap/chair moves! I'm excited to start Pole 2 and keep honing in my skills!
