Spire blah blah blah. Sure, great facilities when you can access them, but when is that? I bought a year's membership right after July 4th, 2026. The pool and gym right away went into abbreviated hours to accommodate their "campers" and then they shut down completely for 10 days because they rented the facilities out to a private concern. There is no concern for the community member. Bad investment. I calculate that the pool and gym may only be open for 8-9 months yet I paid for 12 months. No compensation. They are in it for the money. They are not interested in providing a quality service to the community. I'm already looking for a better facility. read more

This review is for the aquatic complex only. The roughly 10 year facility looks awesome in photos which was when the pool was new. However the complex has not been maintained up to proper standards and has been for sale for over a year. Spire Institute was an amazing idea to bring world class sports training into the Cleveland area. It even got the designation of U.S. Olympic Training Center. However, the finances never jived and the location in the middle of no where was not the draw they hoped for. 20 miles North toward Cleveland they would have been much better off drawing club swimming and revenue. The parking lot was never finished and is gravel with no sidewalks to the front door. I've heard it's brutal in the winter with snow. Guest should expect little to no internet as there guest WiFi rarely worked. The pool is a 50 meter Olympic with 5 meter spring board in an awkward location. The pool temps were a correct 81°. They also offer a 25 yard warm up/cool down pool. Spectator seating offers great views of competition. The digital scoreboard was outdated but good. The deck has better than average space to allow athlete seating thats recessed which is brilliant. Over the four days of USA Futures competition in August 2019 the pool was prepared for swimming. The air temps were not, warm and uncomfortable. Air quality fair. It was warm outside, but normal for August. Clearly the HVAC system struggled. There were also aspects of the facility that was filthy such as the chrome. Chlorine creates havoc if not rinsed down regularly. There was also a 15 minute delay at Finals no less due to replacing a diving block. Lighting was out every where as bulbs were not replaced. The main lobby area that offered food was mediocre. The dining room space was very good. But window seals told the story of again lack of cleaning and maintenance with large thick cob webs. This was in the main area. Just this year developers began to finally put in hotels within 5 miles or so of the complex. This could potentially help breath life back into Spire. There are still few restaurants and shopping options. The nearby town of Geneva is quaint. The area is beautiful. But it's not enough. The owner are bleeding money and struggling to stay afloat and must have new leadership that brings a sizable investment to complete and maintain the huge complex of buildings and fields. 2.5, rounding down. read more

Have been here multiple times over years for swim meets. The children/athletes enjoy the pool which per the kids is a nice pool w good blocks good temperature and it seems like a fast pool. Kids swim well here. They always have a good time at the meets there. My complaint is they do not allow outside food. Yet their cafeteria has limited hours AND the cafeteria staff repeatedly charged for a whole meal (fries and a drink charge) instead of just a hamburger or sandwich even when I noted that it is Just a hamburger. This happened repeatedly. The folks they hire just don't care. we were on a Time line and didn't have time to discuss or complain about their overcharges. They list prices for a hamburger. And prices for a hamburger with fries and drink. You're not obligated to buy the whole meal. If this is happening to other folks someone needs to complain to the better business bureau. read more

Possibly some of the rudest staff members I've ever encountered we paid to use the facility and yet they act like we are trying to ruin the place. We were super respectful and treated the place with respect. But the power hungry staff member members that they have hired treated us like garbage coming at us with no level of respect belittling every little thing we did. read more

Here for a volleyball tournament, and while this place is new. It is NOT very well maintained. If you are an athlete, it might be different. But here are the problems we noticed: 1. Public address system in the field house was unintelligible. Low voice, low talker, tons of speakers, but sounded like the teen her from Charlie Brown. 2. Concessions WAY overpriced. Everybody knows the financial problems this place had after being constructed, and while they've since paid off all the liens, it sure feels like $3 for coffee and tea means their trying to pay down some sort of loan. 3. Spectators have some space on the second floor, but if your athlete is in a middle court, forget about it. You might as well be a mile away or watch a web stream. 4. Women's restrooms were filthy and out of TP for hours. We told people repeatedly and nothing was done. 80% plus of the attendees today were female and they were especially frustrated and disgusted. read more

from a players perspective, this is a pretty good place. from a spectator's standpoint, it's WORSE than TERRIBLE. We come here several times a year for volleyball tournaments. the fees paid by each team are 1 thing. the prices for food are yet another. but you would think that all that money, SOME techno could be added. right? nope. cellular service is awful, but their wifi is even WORSE. They KNOW that there are several hundred people here each week, yet their service thru wifi is by far and away the worst ever for any northern Ohio tournament facility. it's hard enough to keep track of your athletes here, but they've made it worse by creating a guest wifi that is completely unusable. shame on you spire. your greed is blatant and pathetic. read more

Had another volleyball tournament at Spire. This time, I witnessed the 7'7" teenage phenom who plays basketball at Spire. That kid is tall! My daughter's volleyball tournament went very smoothly. This time, they had eight volleyball courts open. There were more lights on and more seating was available also. We ate in the cafe again and I got the salad bar, yet again. Everything was top notch, yet again. I really like this place and I am looking forward to next year's tournaments here. Highly recommend! read more

What a beautiful athletic center, right?!?! No one can argue they have a state of the art facility. So why only three stars?? Parking lot - at least near the pool, unpaved gravel, unclear where to park (as in no marked spaces) Spire Fuel - not open when their posted hours say they should be open serving "fuel" food. Design - bad design for spectators in the pool area. They have a glass barrier in front of the seating area with a silver bar across the top, so no matter what level seating you are sitting on, there is this bar that goes across your view of the pool. Most of us stood in the back so we could see over the bar. read more

my disabled husband who has a brain injury from a work accident last june 2022, was with our kids, and their friends at the playoff game Geneva vs Chardon on 11-3-23. at halftime, around 9PM, he went down to the concession stand and SPIRE can pull the cameras to see this abuse that happened because he got a hotdog and pop, walked over and put ketchup and mustard on it and walked over to the gate where the gym was being blocked so you couldn't enter but you could still watch the basketball and pickle ball games that were being played. he was standing there with his friend, Bob Hennessey, and they were talking about the facilities, how great they were and admiring, just watching the games because that was his first time being there. a young security guard with glasses came up to him directly, not his friend, or the others around him, which included 2 older gentlemen that he was standing next too and groups of high schoolers standing around he said that if you are not buying anything you need to leave JUST to him. my husband proceeded to tell him he was disabled and he wasn't understanding and that he shouldn't be talking to him like that. he said i am not leaving till you ask everyone to leave because he was doing exactly what everyone was else was doing, standing around and watching the games, eating his hotdog that he just bought, and he was the ONLY one being targeted to leave. he wasn't in the way of anything and the security guy didn't even acknowledge his friend who spoke up, asking him what the problem was and why he was targeting my husband. the security guard was only focusing on my disabled husband and removing him for no reason. the security guard said i am getting my boss and that he was done with him because my husband said you didn't tell anyone else to leave but me so i am not leaving the boss that came over, who was a short male with glasses, stated he was a cop and came over and asked my husband what had happened he was explaining his story of what had taken place, that the security guy came over, just to him, and asked him to leave for no reason other then he was not buying food but so were the other groups of people standing around watching the games as well. the so called cop, cut him off and told him he needed to calm down or he was going to arrest him he didn't care he was disabled, he didn't care to hear the story, he just said he had to leave or he would arrest him my husband was trying to understand what was going on because of his brain injury, which makes him disabled, it takes him longer to process things and the so called cop didn't even take the time to hear him out. he was targeted and verbally abused out of every single person at that concession stand for no reason and his friend was a witness of this along with all the other people around and if you pull the security cameras, you will see this abuse. this is unacceptable behavior and disabled or not you don't treat people like this just because you have a badge when you are supposed to be protecting us. to get in his face about nothing, he was confused and didn't understand. he just had a mental breakdown and this happens. this really sent him into a spiral again, so thank you for that. then leaving the building he inquired to the geneva cops that he had a complaint and they said it wasn't there problem and he needed to take it up with spire this is ridiculous behavior that is unacceptable. we are speaking out with the others who have complained about the POOR and DISGUSTING customer service the employees at SPIRE have. how do you hire people like this to treat your paying customers who are just there minding their own business and trying to enjoy some sporting events. i am sure that SPIRE wouldn't appreciate a headline on the news or in the news herald: HANDICAP MAN GETS TARGETED, VERBALLY ABUSED, AND ARRESTED AT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME FOR EATING HOTDOG BY CONCESSION STAND read more

This review is for the aquatic center and management. If you are thinking of joining for the pool be aware it closes often for swim meets. There is poor communication from management when it closes. Twice the pool has closed in recent months with no communication or inaccurate. Recently received an email stating would be closed then they sent a second email stating it would be open on Saturday. I get there on Saturday and I'm told the pool is closed yet the swim team is in the pool. I would consider other facilities for swimming as this pool closes often with poor communication. read more

It was an amazing facility. It was so big and had a lot of parking. The pool had a decent sized cool down pool and big area to keep our bags and hang out. I have only been to the pool and indoor soccer field but both were phenomenal. The only thing that I didn't particularly like was the way I had to communicate with my family. There are raised bleachers above pool that had a good view, but it was hard to talk with my dad about my events. I also did not like the temperature of the water. It was so cold. Overall, I am excited to go back next year. read more

Based on attending an indoor state and outdoor USATF track event, the Facility Management is HORRIBLE. Athletic faculty that only offers junk food offering? And you cannot bring in your own food when loaded fries and corn dogs are not something you would eat. Cell service is spotty so use the "free" Wi-Fi advertised... that does not work... but you could buy up and pay for Wi-Fi. SHAM. General flow of everything needs help. SIGNS...put up signs! And have the signs actually get you to the correct place, including arrows pointing in the right way. Signs on the building to say what they are? Track PA system going in and out? Music on outdoor PA was big band/jazz? Odd choice. Really pumps you up...not. Common sense cannot guide you around because doorways, hallways and stairways are blocked off ALL over the facility restricting athlete and spectator flow indoor and out. You can see the long jump but cannot get there. Maybe the non track events are better? Place just sucks. read more

This place could be a nice place for the athlete if they'd let the soccer players play in a better lighted environment; the damn place was dark! Parking was essentially on an ice rink where I almost killed myself walking to the entrance! PLEASE USE ICE MELT!! My gosh, we came from Pittsburgh and paid a lot of money to participate and ended up skating to the entrance and playing in the dark! This place can't afford to keep the lights on! This place has the worst management i I have ever witnessed. My daughter had personal property stolen and the management did absolutely NOTHING to help. Ashtabula county (OH)state police refuse to help as well. It is so nice that a facility such as this is so uncooperative to the very people who support it. Then after I expressed thanks for (not) helping me with my situation, I was asked to leave. Although I stayed to watch the last game of the tournament and didn't leave, I plan to bash this place on any and all media outlets that are available to me. I am glad that I live in pa and it is a shame that the laws are set up to protect the dishonest thieves. very disappointed entire experience was horrible I'm at spire track & field for a volleyball tournament seems as though who ever put this event on was their 1rst time and way over their head absolutely no seating you literally have to walk miles to get to the consession stand and the food itself was disgusting I am disabled walking isn't easy and this place makes it more difficult you have to walk the entire perimeter without any handicap access and after all that the food was terrible I broke a knife trying to eat a pretzel a rock from the parking lot would've had more flavor and the security at spire is a total joke I asked security about handicap parking and was told there is none I would suggest avoiding the entire place parking is horrible food is beyond horrible the facility is newer but unfinished not handicapp accessible at all I hope I never have to return that's how terrible this place is read more

Pool is amazing. Awesome place for a swim meet. Spire food is really good. My issue is a huge swim meet was being held there this weekend. They were charging $5 to park. The parking lot is not paved and was not plowed. Friday night lot was covered with snow and Saturday morning it was a sheet of ice. Saturday morning there was a back up of cars all the was to 90. They had one person taking $5 from each car. Many swimmers were late. Swimmers were getting out of cars and trying to run some over a mile on a sheet of ice. MONEY was definitely put over safety. I never mind paying for parking in a paved covered parking garage...but on an unfinised snow and ice covered lot in the middle of nowhere....come on! read more

As noted by others, it is a state of the art athletic facility, so the courts, fields, and pool are great. And the cafeteria is good, when it is open. That is the problem. There are large signs everywhere prohibiting outside food, and teams receive emails threatening that you will be ejected from the facility if you have outside food. But the cafeteria is not always open when teams are competing. After the kids finish an early match, and only have a limited time until the next event, they need to fuel up, but the cafeteria isn't open. Either open your food service whenever competition is happening, even if it is a limited menu with just bagels and muffins, or quit threatening to eject people who bring in outside food. read more

We were there for the premier youth basketball tournament this past weekend and extremely disappointed by the management of this tournament! This is our 3rd year playing in this tournament, years past haven't been fantastic, however this year was terrible! They charge $5 for CHILDREN each day, they didn't have ice easily accessible when needed for injuries (you had to search for ONE specific person to get ice)! In a facility of this size with this many sports tournaments going on, every person working should know where and how to get ice quickly. We were shorted to only one ref in a semi-final game with no explanation. We were supposed to be guaranteed 3 seed games, but once we got our schedule only had 2! Part of the reason that we play in this tournament each year is because our kids love to play on the Cavs court, we were not given that opportunity this year! When trying to talk to the tournament directors about our feelings regarding these things and that we had to go OUTSIDE to get a bag of snow for our kids b/c we couldn't find ice, he rudely commented back that we had to find HIM as if we should have known that! There were no apologies, only very large chips on their shoulders! They're obviously not there to please, just to take our money. VERY DISAPPOINTING for a YOUTH tournament!! We have played in many other tournaments at local schools that were run much better and more smoothly than this. When you have a facility like this, it's disappointing that you have poor people running it that can't make it an enjoyable experience for everyone. Reading the other reviews, we see we're not alone. Viewed the 2016-2017 district 10 swim championships. Great facility. Leveled gravel parking lot. Every seat in swim area gave a descent view of the various lanes in the pool. I don't know where the few negative reviewers were at but I found everything they said to be baloney. A little more seating capacity would be a plus but I doubt that there are as many people as there was at our D10 Meet regularly attending. My granddaughter swam there to a new district record and attended a training camp and she can't wait to go back. read more

Extremely disappointed in the management of the youth basketball tournament (The Premier tournament) this past week. While the facility is nice, the tournament itself is run poorly. Very expensive entrance fee and no ice was to be found on the the day of our game for injuries. The director assured us that he was available to get ice, but it seems unfortunate that only one person in the entire sports facility is capable of getting or knowing where ice was located. In addition, we were guaranteed 3 pool play games and then the tournament bracket. After paying our fee, we learned we only had 2 pool games. A large team entrance fee and only 2 games is less than what was promised. Finally, one of the greatest aspects for young kids is the opportunity to play a championship game on the Cavs court. Unfortunately the directors didn't see this as an important factor for a youth tournament and did not afford the teams this opportunity as in years past.
