My bridesmaid dress was way too big and I took it to her on a Friday.. On Tuesday she called me to say it was already done (she said in time to make changes for the Saturday wedding)! Went to try it on and it fit PERFECTLY, definitely no need for more changes. Did I mention I also gave her a pair of work pants for her to alter too..? Also fit like a glove. I usually don't write bad reviews but the lady pissed me off so much. I gave her my jumpsuit to get it hemmed for my birthday was quoted $27 to fix the front and shorten the legs. The work was mediocre honestly I could have gotten this cheaper somewhere else. We talk about how she is going to fix it and I pay her THAT same day in cash and hand over my garments. She wrote everything on a piece of paper and gave me a yellow receipt as proof. All is fine and dandy then. Little did I not know... So I come in about a week later to pick up my stuff and try it on. I literally have to go to work right then. She gives me my stuff, I give her the yellow receipt as proof that I paid. For some reason she still thinks I didn't pay her because I leave the store with my clothes and at work I get a long text from her saying SHE doesn't remember I paid THAT day and she forgot to stamp it. She texts me a really long paragraph insisting that she didn't get my payment. Lady I remember quite clearly I paid you that same day. She probably lost my money because she put it in a white envelope or some sort. She even gave me change back! I know I may look 16 but I am 26 and she is not doing me any hugeee favor by bagging my clothing in a plastic wrap and letting me go while wishing me a "happy birthday" OMG thank you so much for doing what you're suppose to do in the first place which is customer service. Overall this was a weird, awkward, and infuriating experience. I probably will just go somewhere else next time. read more

Would have been a five star but I didn't like how she told me that my costume would be ready on Saturday and then called me Friday around 12 to come pick it u cause they where going to be closed on Saturday . And it's says on the web that they are open from 9-4 on Saturday . I'm a hard working person that when we set a date to pick something up there is a reason behind it . Not just cause you feel like being closed on Saturday I have to come pick up my costume. Like I'm glad it was done way before my time period . But don't tell me one thing and then have me trying to find my way to your shop on Friday cause you wanna be closed Saturday . But other then that she did an amazing job on my costume very pleased. Came here twice. The service and work are really good. The pricing is kind of inconsistent though. The first time I came I had two shirts taken in at $19 apiece. I came back a few weeks later and I brought in a pair of jeans and two more shirts. The price had jumped to $25 each for a total of $75 + 5 more for reasons I never understood. On the phone she had said it was $85, but then it got to $80 when I went to pick them up. It was my own fault for not confirming the price before taking the receipt, but I expect to have some level of trust between my tailor and me. New to the area so I consulted the Council of the Esteemed Yelpers, who guided me here. I recently dropped some poundage, and therefore had a closet full of pricey business clothes I couldn't wear. The owner was a doll! I brought in *armloads* of clothes (dresses, suits w/pants and skirts, plain trousers) and we chatted about what I was trying to do...which was mainly taking in the waists, or so I thought. As I tried on and she patiently pinned and marked, she made other suggestions...taking a skirt up a couple of inches to modernize, slimming the legs of some pants. She asked when I wanted the items, did I want her to call when "groups" were done (all the dresses, all the suits), and I told her I'd just wait and get it all at once, and wasn't in a rush at all. I'm thinking, a month maybe? She quoted a couple of weeks and I nearly fainted. TWO WEEKS for enough clothes to open my own boutique?! Unheard of, and I honestly had my doubts, but I rolled with it. I'm so happy I did, because she called me less than two weeks later to tell me everything was done! She had me try on each piece so we could make sure they were correct...every single item was flawless! The advice she gave was spot-on and the pieces were very professionally done - Mr. Klein, Mr. Lauren, and Mr. Kors couldn't have done a better job themselves. So now, not only do I have a ton of "new" clothes that are in my size, but they're sized perfectly to my body...VERY, VERY happy! read more

When my daughter and her best friend received their band performance gowns the night before the concert, the only choice this non-sewing mom had was to use Stitch Witchery to take up the hem. (Stitch Witchery is a bonding tape that melts when ironed, effectively gluing the fabric together.) The gowns --- long, black, polyester numbers --- each had about a foot of excess length, but the Stitch Witchery did a good enough job until I could get it to Spirit Alterations a week later. The lady that helped me was very nice and patiently accommodated two giggling teenage girls. Thankfully the girls managed to hold still while the lady pinned the hem, however, even if they had been squirmy (think little kids), her hands were steady and I think she would have pulled it off with aplomb. We didn't need them right away, and even though she could have had them done within a day, we opted to pick them up about two weeks later. When I picked them up, the hems were perfectly straight and exactly the right length. The dresses were ironed and hanging neatly on their hangers, ready to go to the next concert. (And God bless her, she managed to get the Stitch Witchery residue out, too.) I absolutely recommend Spirit Alterations, and will definitely use them again. This has been my go to shop for alterations since it is so close to my house. I've realized after several alternations that the shop is good at adding items to clothing like snaps and patches and simple alterations. I had snaps added to my dress and it was exactly as I wanted. I also asked for patches on shirts and the work was done well. They also are good at shortening pants. However, I asked them to alter a men's size shirt to fit my (female) torso. It would require removing material from the shirt. The end result was that the shirt looks uneven on both sleeves. I was disappointed by this because I got the shirt after graduation and it was special to me. I've been thinking about finding another shop for my alteration needs. read more

So I walked in at the same time as another guy, he was picking up a dress for his girlfriend/mother, someone. The worker brought the dress out for him and it looked like it has been wadded up in a ball in the back. He told her that she and his girlfriend/mother had discussed that she would iron it first, she gets all confused and then says- ummm can you come back later? That should have been my first clue this was not the place for me. I was bringing in a large shirt that I wanted the sleeves cut off of, shortened and open to make it look like a jacket (though no zipper or buttons or anything). I show her a picture of what type of style I'm looking for and all she can focus on is the jacket in the picture is leather. Yes, I know that ma'am, I'm not asking you to create something new just open up this shirt. She looks at me and says that that is the equivalent of a custom new product and she wants to charge me $80!!!! The shirt was on clearance when I bought it so I was like no. I went over to Alterations by Sue one block away on Kirkwood. She took one look at it and said no problem, changed me $30 and was able to cut some pieces right then and there to show me what it would look like. Quaint, quiet, cozy shop run by a few Vietnamese ladies. I dropped by to get a couple of pants hemmed (#shortgirlproblems) and a romper fixed. Previous reviews rave about how sweet the owner is, but the lady I met didn't even offer up a smile. She pinned up the pants quickly and wordlessly, then when I explained what needed to be done with the romper (the tie had snapped apart in the wash), she instructed me to buy new string and bring it back. Maybe I caught her on a bad day? Anyway, I returned a few hours later with string in hand to a older, much nicer lady. Again, I explained how I wanted the romper fixed, and I was told my items would be ready in 2-3 days. I was pleasantly surprised to get a call the next day! I went back to try everything on: my pants were perfectly hemmed and the romper was good as new. Good stuff. Pros: these gals do quick work. Cons: customer service might suck, depending on who you get. Also, pricing is bizarre. I spent $27 in total: $11 for each hemming (which I feel should've costed less) and $5 for fixing the romper (which I feel should've costed more)...not to mention $5 for the string I had to go out and buy. read more

So the owner promised she will need to cut the dress, and put all the crystals down, then after smaller size the dress and then put every crystals back, I said I understand this will be a lots of work so when she asked me for $150, I agreed. But today I was here to pick up the dress, I find out she did NOT cut the crystals and put it back at all! I mean, I, as a customer, I cannot ask her the question about her work???? I cannot question about the price she asked for but she did not do the work??????And THIS IS MY DRESS, she even threatened me cannot take this dress away. Really disappointed with the job done for e price she asked for. Send to get black out lining sew to the back of my drapery. I agreed to the price she asked since she explained she need to remove a lot of the stitches to sew in the blackout lining. That was no problem. I came back to collect my drapery, I was shocked with the final product. She practically just attached the top of the lining to the curtain. The rest was just simple basic heming. Plus, since I was so happy with the dry cleaning, I brought some older clothes that I thought about changing, (shortening the sleeves on jackets, etc.) and this place did a fantastic job. I called on a Monday needing 2 suit jacket sleeves shortened for Thursday pickup. I brought them in at 5:30 that night, and after a quick sizing, she told me they would be ready by then. I was running late, but she kept the shop open 30 minutes after closing so i could come in and get my jackets that i needed for my event that night. Not only were they perfectly hemmed, she also tapered the sleeve to accommodate the few inches taken off. Also, when I first went in, someone was picking up her cocktail dress, saying she was celebrating her new body. The dress was perfectly fitted and sized, none of the sheer panels, beading, or back cutouts out of place. Great work all around. read more

Spirit Alterations is VERY expensive. I highly recommend that you get an estimated cost for your alteration piece(s) by calling before making the trip. I called to get a ballpark cost for a pair of shorts but Kim was unwilling to do so over the phone. So I brought 5 shorts in and tried them on and she pinned them up. When I was ready to make a deposit before leaving I was shocked at the charge. There was another customer waiting so I felt pressured to make a hasty decision and went ahead and made the deposit. This was my mistake. The small amount of work involved with the alterations and the price I paid for the shorts are NOT worth the charge. The alterations cost more than the purchase price of the shorts! Bottom Line: If Kim or any other employee will not give you an estimated charge for your piece(s) over the phone, then it would be in your best interest to take your business elsewhere. I took a dress that I was wearing for my birthday to Nhulien at 11:00 a.m. on a Tuesday. I had to make the dress a little tighter at the sides where keyholes were. I told Nhulien that I needed the dress back by Friday at 11:00 a.m. On Wednesday, I received a call from her that the dress was ready and that she wanted me to try it on to make sure nothing else needed to be done! I recently moved into the area and found this place due to good yelp reviews. I also like to support small businesses. I bought a vintage coat that I fell in love with, but it was huge on me. So, I brought it into Spirit to be tailored and they did a phenomenal job! It was about 6 sizes too big to begin with and they did an excellent job basically reconstructing it to fit me. They even gave it shape in the waist to accentuate my body, which was a winning touch. The tailoring work looks very professional.
