Piper getting ready to start a water treadmill session.
    Dawn O.

We take our golden retriever here for water treadmill sessions. Her strength has increased in all her legs, particularly her rear. Water treadmill sessions are 15 minutes. They take such good care of her: there are even mirrors for them to watch her gait! There is a pool for dogs to swim, we haven't taken Piper to a swim session ONLY for fear that we'd never get her back on the water treadmill. If you're in the Des Plaines area, seriously consider having your dog swim here. Cindy is the manager, and she has such a heart for dogs. Laura and all the people who work there do too. I recommend Splash Dog without hesitation.

This is the second dog that I have taken to swim therapy. My Border Collie American Eskimo mix tore her ACL last summer chasing a squirrel. Her vet said she would need surgery. I know my girl and she would not stay calm enough to recover well from that. So like I did with my old German shepherd, I took her to swim therapy to strengthen her muscles without any impact. I is now a year later and she swims here every week, I would not dare stop. My girl gets so excited to come here, everyone is so nice and she gets all the attention and they have her favorite toy ready before she gets there. She is strong and able to walk and run, even jump now. This is the most clean and caring place you can go to with your pup.

During all those years, not once did anyone ever tell me my dog was aggressive or had any behavioral issues. Then, around 2025, everything changed. Out of nowhere they started claiming my dog was trying to bite the groomers and eventually refused to groom her unless I got a veterinarian's note saying she was on medication. Imagine being told that after six years of bringing the same dog there without a single complaint. They had me genuinely questioning whether something was wrong with my dog. To make sure, I took her to a completely different groomer. Their response? They said my dog was an absolute saint and behaved perfectly the entire time. That told me everything I needed to know. I've also since found out Splash and Dash is under new management, and that's exactly when all these issues started. On top of that, I have another dog who has come home from this place with scratches and even bleeding. I can't say what happened behind closed doors, but no pet owner should have to pick up their dog in that condition or be made to feel like their well-behaved pet is suddenly the problem. After six years of loyalty, this is how I was treated. It's incredibly disappointing and frustrating. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but I absolutely can't anymore. If you truly care about your pets, I'd think twice before bringing them here

My dogs have lots of friends here that they can run around with and play! I send them to board overnight or when I travel as well. I've gotten so comfortable with all the staff that it is defiantly the only place I trust to put my dogs. My dogs always arrive happy and my husky even cries of happiness when we turn down Oakton to go to "school". They always leave happy as well and then the take a nice long rest when they get home , which makes my life ten times easier. Taking my dogs here gives me and my daughter a well balanced life with free time, while giving my dogs a big place to play and exercise. My dogs love the staff and I believe the staff truly does care for my dogs and the others.

I actually made sure to brush her body before the appointment and again, without even touching her hair you guys decided she was unable to get a cut only based off knowing it's been 3 months. The only option I was given was she needs to be shaved, to which I responded please don't shave her too short because what else was I supposed to say since I was being told NO when I asked for a cut only. You're contradicting yourself because those who have this type of a dog will know the one place that gets most tangled is by the face which is the only place she got a cut!! So yes, you're capable to cut when she has tangles.

This is my first review on Yelp but Brooks has been a tremendous help with training my dog, Cooper,…read moreso I thought it was necessary to return the favor. :) I got Cooper back in August of 2018 as he needed to be rehomed for various reasons--my boyfriend and I were quick to realize that he had not had any form of training while at his previous home. Desperate for any sort of help, I researched dog training facilities and found Brooks. While the price was steeper than I was expecting, the 2-week board and train provided a foundation for Cooper that I would've never been able to accomplish in that amount of time. It was obvious that Liz, our trainer, really cared about Cooper's progress and she was very transparent in what I should expect Cooper to learn in the 2 weeks he was being trained. I appreciated that she was honest and upfront on what the expectations should be, instead of making grandiose promises in order to get my business. The 2-week board and train also came with 3 follow-up sessions with Liz to go over the training and to answer any questions I had. I thought these sessions were immensely helpful and I appreciated each one. Since then, I have continuously used Brooks for boarding and daycare, both of which have been great experiences. Cooper is always excited to go to daycare during the week and comes back a tired and happy pup. If I had anything to suggest, it would be to add cameras for clients to see their dogs. I would love to be able to watch my dog via webcam while I am at work. Overall, Brooks has been a lifesaver and I wouldn't have been able to survive these past few months as a first-time dog owner without them. A special thank you to Brittany and Liz for being so wonderful to work with! :)

Ted helped us through every step of the process, explaining clearly and patiently all that needed to be done, checking and re-checking our paperwork, and ironing out all of the details for us. With constantly changing rules and regulations for international pet travel (especially to the UK) it was great to have someone as good as Ted to help us get through it all. I was especially pleased that he was the only person who worked with us for the entire process, so I didn't have to keep re-explaining our particular situation or needs. On the day of travel Ted met us near O'Hare where we handed off our two beloved dogs for their flight to London. He even texted us pictures as they were checked into the flight and let us know when they had safely taken off. 12 hours later we were all reunited in London after an extremely smooth process. I can't recommend Ted and Pets in Transit enough. He took so much of the stress out of a very stressful situation and took great care of our dogs. At first I thought the price for this service was high, but after we arrived we agreed that we would have paid double if we had known he would make it all so easy.
