Is that a dolphin, a shark, no... it's manta rays!!! Talk about manta rays everywhere! Night manta snorkeling is a MUST thing to do on the Big Island. I swear if you don't do it, you will think about it the rest of your life and be old and still feel guilty about how you didn't do it that one time. First of all, this company is one of the few on the island that does night manta ray snorkeling on a Sunday. I called about gajillion (yes that's a word in my book) companies, before settling for this one since it was voted number 1 on tripadvisor. They also offer a kamaina discount, which is way better than the military one. Thank you for the moolahs in my pockets Splashers! Our tour was from 6-7:30 p.m., but I recommend you get there by 5:30 because that's when they fit you into your wet suit, flippers (not that you need any, you fish swimmer you), and snorkeling gear. Now I thought all snorkeling gear was the same, but no, my face is too round and small to fit into "regular" people's gear. I had to have a child's gear.. yes fitted to perfection!!! That water was repelling off of my snorkel gear... FTW!!! The boat itself is TINY, holding maybe about 20 people. A sweet little intimate experience I'd say. Tiny also means you're going faster than light on the water. If you want to throw up and have the best time of your life, sit near the front of the boat. If you enjoy your life and don't want to be shark meat, sit near the back of the boat. Splashers take you on an adventure that is unforgettable, starting with the boat ride. Once you get to your location (~15 min exhilarating boat ride), you wait until sun goes down to begin the adventures. I went with many people that didn't know how to swim so they give you life vests and noodles to prep you for the snorkeling. They also go over safety and what to do when you see manta rays. You're supposed to keep your legs straight.. no matter how many times they say this, there's always that one person that can't seem to grasp the concept of what 'straight' means. After a lecture on safety blah blah, you wait to hear the first "woohoo", that's when you should get in the water to checkout the manta rays. And I did hear a "woohoo" (not to be mistaken with the woohoo girl on HIMYM)! As soon as we got into the water, I saw manta rays. They are just breathtaking!!! One was so close to me that I could touch it!!! You're guaranteed to see them. My only qualm was that many of the other snorkelers stayed, while we swam away from them to our boat to go back home :(. I thought it was short (hence only 4 stars) and wish we could've stayed another half hour. The guide also helped every non-swimmer become acclimated and took the time to make sure they had a good time as well. Very sweet and attentive. Once on the boat, you could either take your wet suit off like an idiot or keep it on because it'll keep you warm until you dock again. I kept mine on as I drank hot cocoa and nibbled on some granola bars. I was quickly all warm and fuzzy!!! One of my other fav part of this tour was the ride back to the dock. They turn off all the lights on the boat so you're left with just you and the night sky. It felt like you were on top of Mauna Kea looking at the night sky. It was beautiful and amazing! Thank you Splashers.

One of the highlights of our trip! Saw a least five mantas, constantly gliding in circles to eat the little critters attracted to the lights. We loved it!

I booked the late night Manta Ray Snorkel and it was a amazing experience! I wasn't sure about snorkeling at night but was glad I overcame this and went! The plankton didn't cooperate for us and seemed to be more plentiful on the ocean floor, but we did have 3 close encounters that included 2 barrel rolls! Our hosts were very nice and the ride out/back on the "zodiac" raft was smooth - much faster than a normal snorkel boat. I highly suggest using Splashers for the Manta Ray snorkel!!

Such a great experience with Captain Russon (sp) and Megan! We got killer pics and vids of the majestic manta rays and such an informative session while being in the water. We met at the harbor at around 1900. Be sure to show up early to get a wetsuit and mask fitted, as well as use the bathroom before you head out on your excursion. After about a 20 minute boat ride out closer to the airport, they set up shop with a blue LED lit board that attracts plankton which in turn attracts the manta rays for a spectacular 30 minute manta ray show. The boat ride was a trip and def kept us on our toes. It's an exciting 30 mph ride. Put your feet up and let the boat toss you up as you stare out into the darkness. Bring a Go-pro and snap some pics and vids in the water while you watch these amazing creatures feed on the tiny critters. It's a also a great excursion to see bioluminescent plankton shoot up as the boat cuts through the water. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the Big Island!

We returned and went for the late manta trip and recommend it over the earlier one. You are more likely to see mantas because the earlier trips can let the captain know which location had the most mantas. We also did the snorkel trip. We saw hundreds of dolphins, a couple of whales, and them lots of fish and corral. Dre was great. He checked on everyone to help ensure they had a good experience We will go again.

Dre and Melia were awesome guides. My sister is a novice swimmer and was very afraid of going into the ocean. She has never been in the ocean before and this was at night time which made it more terrifying. Both were very kind and attentive in helping her feel more comfortable . They helped her create a memory of a life time. Both of you were very patient and have a very kind heart. Thank you.

Splashers Ocean Adventures I highly recommended! The captain and the staff was awesome and very helpful and friendly. The greatest experience with my boys! The night snorkeling with the Manta Rays was worth it! I would do it again if I could super awesome!

If you're looking for an amazing experience in every way then Splashers is the place for you. Personalized service with very helpful and friendly staff. They will make you feel like family or a very good friend. The service is top notch and so are their boats. We went snorkeling this morning and the owner went out with us. Sherri is not only extremely experienced and knowledgeable about scuba diving and snorkeling she's super friendly and her top concern is your individual experience and safety. We had such a wonderful time we went back tonight for the Manta Ray Experience and had another magical and amazing time. We saw a lot of Manta Rays and we were a small group and made instant friends with the other people on the boat. It's a real family feel experience and worth every penny! Our morning Captain, Tanner, was super knowledgeable about the history of the island and locations we stopped to look at along the way. He had great stories and was just an awesome guy. Our evening Captain, Charlie, was funny and showed us a great time while also giving us excellent service. Sherri and her staff, THANK YOU! I don't know how many times I said, " THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!" but I know it was a lot and it was such a magical and amazing day in so many ways. I guarantee you won't get the kind of personal service anywhere else!

The cruise over and back were relatively smooth; the Captain did a good job of reading the seas and riding the sweels as smoothly as possible. The crew was on the younger side, but that wasn't any type of issue at all - they all knew what they were doing. Plus, they all were very personable and all had a great sense of humor. The atmosphere on the way to the snorkeling site (Kealakekua Bay), during the snorkeling event itself, and on the way back was upbeat, lighthearted and fun. Both the boat and the snorkeling equipment was in great condition. Basically, there was nothing about this adventure that wasn't first rate, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a half day adventure while on the Big Island.

The people who checked us in were friendly and efficient, and so was the crew on the boat. The food and drinks on board weren't bad at all - actually, everything was quite tasty. I admit stabbing a piece of chicken isn;t easy if the boat hits a swell while you're doing it, and the same goes for getting that bite safely in your mouth. But, you rapidly get used to it and it ceases to be a problem. The cruise itself, i.e. the motion of the boat was a lot smoother than some people told us it would be, the views were spectacular, and as mentioned everyone from Body Glove's staff treated us great. This was one Big Island tour opportunity that was well worth the money, and we highly recommend it.

The staff (including Captain Bryce and two other people who were super helpful) was funny, welcoming, and reassuring about our safety. We stayed out for over 3 hours (maybe 3.5) and every minute was a delight. We first saw spinner dolphins who seemed to be surfing in our wake (accompanied by the song "Surfin' USA"). Then we saw so many whales (or maybe it was just two whales we kept seeing?) that I almost got "bored" with the whales. (Not really, but by the time we headed back, seeing whales seemed like a normal thing for people to do on a Friday afternoon). So much fun. Music was great, staff was awesome, didn't get seasick, so comfortable on the boat... I would recommend them over anyone else. This is right on the cruise terminal port and quite easy to walk to. The check in area is in a hotel called Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel. I would recommend to check in early as 15 minutes before your tour departs, they guide you to the water shuttle. Once you get on the water shuttle, it takes you to the submarine. You need to be able to climb a ladder to get into the submarine. The space is a little on the tight side and there are no backs to the seats so work on your abs before the trip! The air inside was cool and constantly recirculating so it did not feel stuffy. Everyone gets their own porthole to look into the ocean and there are fish identification cards in front of you. The submarine can get to 100 ft pretty quickly and I was surprised that my ears did not get plugged up. We saw lots of fish that day. Some get really close to the submarine. We even saw a school of fish! My only disappointment is color. At those depths, everything has a blue tinge so sometimes it was hard to identify the fish. She didn't mention tips, but at the end, she got a lot of cash from all of us because she absolutely crushed the tour. My only nits were 1) finding the meeting place was not obvious because it's inside the neighboring hotel-- not sure if we missed those instructions somewhere. And 2) we donked our heads twice when looking out the viewports when we were looking at some fish-- not because the submarine was moving too fast, we just got excited looking at fish hah.
