It was a lovely well maintained place for walking. I was there in early March so the main points of interest were the anchor collection and bells the path takes you on a small stretch by the water which is always beautiful. Based on the shrubs there, Late May would be a perfect time to see it in all it's glory read more

I am SO glad I found this "hidden gem" (I guess tourists don't know about it!) I needed something in nature to do on my solo trip and I love gardens so I decided to stop here. I am beyond God that I did because it was absolutely beautiful. I visited May 21st in the azaleas and rhododendrons were in full bloom. It was quite the sight to see and so peaceful walking around the various trails. There were a few other people there but not many so it felt like I was completely alone. I'll definitely be making this must go to stop every time I go to the cape in the middle of the stop in a different times of the year to see what else is in bloom. The couple that started this had a really beautiful vision and I'm so grateful that the trust continues to carry on their legacy with this beautiful garden. I found this little "hidden gem" as others are calling it while searching on YELP for parks near Falmouth. I am so glad that I came by. There were not any flowers blooming on visit but I really enjoyed the area. The little lake you walk around is very picturesque. I spent quite a while looking at all the old anchors and items around. If you are in the area and looking for a nice quiet place to wonder around and enjoy the nature this is the spot for you! read more

Spohr Gardens - Parks Near Me - Falmouth, Massachusetts

The Spohr Gardens are a lovely respite. My wife and her friend and I visited it while in Falmouth to run a half marathon. Our AirBnB was ten minutes away, if even that; you could have run over here very easily but for the race the day before. We saw a lady had set up her chair on the dock, in order to read; she had claimed her dominion, and we did not disturb her. We brought our little dog. We checked: they are allowed. The story of the place also is sweet. A World War II soldier was wounded. He met a nurse. They married. Having had no children, they left their land, six acres, for the public to enjoy in perpetuity, displaying his collection of anchors. The governing board and local officials also have a new project underway. They are trying to turn the grounds into a butterfly preserve. I am not sure how that works, but I am glad to see collective action for the benefit of the natural world. Apparently, based on what I see on the internet, the site is attractive to birders as well. We wandered along one of the many paths. My sports watch logged .61 miles. We should have done another loop, a different one. So I'd say this is a 30 minute saunter. I am glad we went to Spohr. If you lived in Falmouth, happened to be there with an hour, were an anchor aficionado, or wanted to look at birds, I'd say go. If you were in Boston and had no other reason to be in Falmouth, I would not say to drive in order to take in this attraction. On those terms, I recommend Spohr. I believe all of us ought to express gratitude to the late couple that established it and those who continue to maintain their legacy. Actions to benefit strangers in the future are less common than those taken to disadvantage acquaintances in the present. read more

This hidden gem of a park on Oyster Pond has a lot of history and is a wonderful spot to look at nature and some historical artifacts. It was started about 30 years ago as a privately landscaped yard. It is now maintained by a non-profit and I think it is available for small weddings. We visit whenever we are on the Cape. read more

Spohr Gardens - Anchor with a view. - Parks Near Me - Falmouth, Massachusetts

As others have mentioned- a hidden gem. It's a small garden - only 6 acres. And it's more of a natural garden, as opposed to formal meticulous garden plantings. Apparently Mr Spohr collected millstones and anchors. The millstones are scattered around the property. Most of the anchors are on the lakeshore. It would be a great spot to bring a picnic lunch and sit down by the dock. With no lunch, our leisurely walk was about 1/2 hour. read more

A hidden gem! Set on a quiet mostly private lake (oyster pond) this garden is meticulously maintained and yet still very natural. We found this location from a wedding website. For just a small donation we could reserve the space for our intimate wedding. We knew as soon as we saw the gardens and dock in-person that THIS was the perfect place to exchange our vows. With just a few fish jumping in the distance and a turtle popping up to say 'hello', Spohr Gardens is very peaceful, private and serene. The light was perfect at our 4:30 ceremony which was held just a few days before Labor Day. Thank you, Charles and Margaret Spohr for creating this amazing place. *Definitely a Falmouth Highlight* In early June the Rhododendrons were in full magnificent bloom. Just stunning. I so enjoyed the property acquired by Charles & Margaret Spohr in 1939. Their love for this special woodland garden overlooking Oyster Pond lives on through the charitable trust that allows the public access 12 hours a day 365 days a year. A giant stone on a hillside was inscribed with the name "Spohr Gardens" & the date "1950." The couple spent their lives gently molding the landscape into an ethereal paradise to inspire tens of thousands of admirers. A Carpenter was building a Butterfly Habitat, & new perennial plantings nearby were Butterfly faves. A truly unique setting that stimulates the senses to commune with Nature. read more

A small, out of the way park, maintained by a trust, on Oyster Pond, Spohr Gardens is beautiful. We had our wedding ceremony there, on the dock. Perfect, beautiful location for an intimate (40 person) wedding ceremony. A late afternoon in mid-September means the natural beauty of the area is all the decoration you need. They have a small parking area, so carpooling for a wedding is best, and there is no electricity. But we had a battery-operated Bose speaker and it would be beautiful with a singular musician. The historical artifacts and unique, winding stone staircase offer interest, in addition to the beautiful flowers and plants blooming at different times of the year. read more
