Review Visit: June 1st, 2013…read more You'll have a wheely good time here. There really is a museum for everything and anything. This one happens to be dedicated to all things on wheels. Or things that have wheels. Or wheel-shaped things. Okay, I don't think it's the last one but I do think this place is dedicated to items sitting on top of wheels. I'm not really sure how I found out about this place. It may have been from someone at work that brought it up during one of our many talks about traveling. Doing what I do best, I contacted someone to go with me and that person just happened to be my dad. We hopped in my car and made the semi-short drive to check the place out. When we approached the museum, the first thing we noticed was the train situated next to the building. You knew from looking at it that you were in for a treat. We made our way in and got to checking out the museum. The first thing we saw were antique cars. I recognized a few but a lot of them were unique to their time period. I'm not super attached to antique cars but I always think they are cool to look at in museums and such. They had maybe 15 or so at the time of my visit. We moved on to the other part of the museum and it had an eclectic collection of odds and ends. There was a firetruck that we got to take photos with. There was a Rube Goldberg-esque display as seen below. They had a mini train model set up in a glass case. Lastly, I remember there being a giant pendulum-style clock near the firetruck. It's rather hard to write this post as the place seemed to be dedicated to things on wheels but also other random odds and ends. It's best to check out their website below or visit the museum to see what I mean. It's a neat place to spend and afternoon if you have the time.

Saw the Wicked Movie on screen 18…read more First I don't like this buying tickets at the concessions stuff because it screws anyone who already bought tickets online and wants to buy food. Everyone has to wait in the same line to get food. You basically lose the privilege of planning ahead (and spending $2 more) because you're waiting with all the other plebeians who are buying their tickets same day. We bought online then went straight in to get our seats, but when I came back I found I had to go all the way back OUTSIDE to get in line for food. Also so screen 18 was showing a musical. There was something immediately off about the sound. You could hear it, but there were no mids and little bass. The sound system was so flat that whole 3hr picture. Watching a musical, this bugged me so much. It just wasn't as full as you'd expect a theater sound system to be. Lastly 2 boxes of candy and a regular and large popcorn were $35. Stars deducted.

I went to the Peoria Speedway this past week. The website claims they have races every Saturday…read more"all day." Parking is free and I to the gate and a gentlemen with no shirt on took my ticket. It costs $12. I went in and there was a lot of rough people but including a fair amount talent including the jail bait variety. I liked it though. The track is pretty small and the cars spend all of their times making turns and running into each other.

The walls are a pale green, there are glass block windows and a large veteran-themed mural on one wall. We didn't try any food other than some warm cashews, but noticed they have various sandwiches (pulled pork, chicken, tenderloin, smashburgers), pizza, ribeye steaks...all may not be available on all days, especially Mondays since they're not open. They had Butch's pizza but I believe there is also a night when someone makes homemade pizzas. There was Pilsner Urquell in cans, but my selection was a vodka tonic, and it hit the spot. There was a scavenger hunt clue posted, which we failed to find, plus they have billiards, darts, and video slots. Cash is king but they accept credit cards with a fee.

This is not only a review. It's a dedication to my dad, this Father's Day 2024…read more So many memories, I practically grew up here. I was nearly born here as mom spent her due date 9/4 so many decades ago at the jamboree, I wouldn't arrive until 20 days later! It is where I made my dad so proud as his only daughter, his number one daughter as he affectionately called me, won the Illinois Jr state champion duck calling contest. It where teenage me fell hard for a boy from Talbots edition. It was like a second home for my mom and dad and I, and was replete with lifelong family friends. It was a place where we spent many holiday celebrations and enjoyed delicious food from the kitchen, where everyone pitched in It's where my dad volunteered for most of his life. It was a tradition on Christmas Eve, where he would serve his famous Tom and Jerry's . He began a Father's Day horseshoe tournament that ran every year, the courts at the club are named for him, Darrell 'DW' Wade. He didn't live to see the beautiful metalwork sign his name. It's hard to believe he passed 10 years ago in 2014 when the court was dedicated to him. And finally and fittingly where his celebration of life was held. The "club" will always be part of me; Spring Lake, the dock, the ducks, the lilly pads, the people. I miss you dearly dad and hope that the PSC continues to honor you each Father's Day by throwing the irons.
