I needed a cutlery basket for my folding dish rack (years ago they would have been included but those were the days), Spoons-n-Spice was the only place that had what I was searching for, so i joined their mailing list for the discount and the fact they had other things I may consider. As much as I tried, this wasn't going through so I called but there was no answer (and they were still shown as being opened too). I decide to email in addition to calling the next day. Patricia was great! She was able to process everything on her end, and explained everything thoroughly. Order arrived within days, & it fits my dish rack perfectly. One of the best cooking stores in the valley. I'd say this store rivals Orson Gygi, it's even better in some ways. Spoons and Spice has a ton of in-depth specialty and enthusiast-grade cooking, baking, dining, and serving equipment. Whether you want to purchase a high quality knife, finally get a milk frother, a banneton basket, an offset cake spatula, a pizza peel, vanilla bean paste, a sous vide, or a bougie charcuterie board - this place has you covered. It's a small store, but large for a kitchen store, and very well organized. I've been here several times and I always find something I don't have or didn't know about. It is also the best place to shop for anyone in your life who loves to cook. You can walk out with a Le Creuset set, or an apron - up to you. The staff is fantastic and friendly, and very helpful. This store is in a great location, parking is usually almost full but I've always found a spot here, and it's next to many other exciting shopping opportunities. Win-win! This locally owned business is one of the best around. I've been a patron of Spoons 'n Spice for roughly 40 years, and they do not disappoint! Their prices have always been very reasonable, and the products they carry are nice quality. "Someone" at my house lost my stainless measuring cup. I thought I was going to have to purchase an entire new set. Turns out they also sell individual measuring cup sizes, along with individual measuring spoons! I was so happy to only have to buy exactly what I needed, and nothing more. They carry all different colors of oven mitts, so I generally buy a fresh pair every year or two. Today I picked up a pair in Kelly green and I love them! :) I also bought a handful of their locally made fresh caramels at the checkout counter. Very delicious. Hello fans of Big Larry. We have been off line for almost two years due not only to the terrifying virus but also the fact that we have spent the last 3 years remodeling our historic home. But we're back! And I wanted to draw your attention to this wonderful store. Not only is it locally owned and managed, but they have survived the downturn in the economy which the virus has thrust upon us all. So yay for them. Plus the staff there is absolutely fabulous; not just in their amazing knowledge but in their inimitable attitude towards service and detail. I mean they have an area just for spoon rests! They have a coffee and tea expert whom even Larry could not stump. Amazing. Now Larry loves to cook, and in his new home he has a huge commercial range. He is renewing everything from his spices to his cooking equipment. These folks carry EVERYTHING! Swiss Diamond cookware, an amazing collection of pans, utensils and specialty items like pizza cutters. If you are a baker, prepare yourself for an unending selection of bread making equipment, books, cake and pie and muffin pans plus decorating supplies better than I have ever encountered. Beautiful selection of formal and informal place settings, cutlery and specialty service items like demitasse spoons to oil dispensers. Plus the absolute best assortment of spices and the like including extracts and flavorings like Gorilla and of course the hard to find Honey Badger extract plus the standards like coconut, etc. Oh, and when did you last see "Grains of Paradise" in the local market. I am serious, this is an epic location, staffed with experts. Social distancing, masks required and all the safety stuff. Check them out and support an awesome local business. You will be amazed. Spoons 'N Spice is the best! They have everything your kitchen needs and so much stuff you didn't know you wanted. We stopped by during our holiday shopping marathon searching for a gift for a specific someone and ended up leaving with a bag full of things for us. I'd love to say that this was the first time something like this has happened, but it seems to be a common occurrence here. The staff is so friendly, welcoming, and helpful even when it is obviously very busy. Some might comment that the prices are high here. Sure, you can always find similar and sometimes the same items at Wal-Mart with a lower price tag. However, the majority of things sold at Spoons 'N Spice are of the highest quality available which warrants a slightly higher price point. The best part is that the quality doesn't come with the underlying snootiness that you might encounter at Williams and/or Sonoma or Sur la Table. When you shop here you are supporting a local business in a very competitive industry. As we checked out with the items we selected for ourselves, they were just so genuinely appreciative of our business. I can't even describe how refreshing the experience was here, but I would urge you to stop in and see for yourself. This store has declined a great deal from the days when it was a small family store in Ivy Place that sold high quality items. The product lines they now carry are sub-par at best. No longer do they carry All Clad or similar high quality cookware. Thier knife selection is limited to the lower end of the product lines. They sell several items that are not washing machine/dishwasher safe and are not labeled as such. Their return policy is not existant. The staff is often too busy socializing to assist customers. It is sad that I feel I have to write this review - this used to be my favorite store. I STRONGLY suggest you avoid shopping here and tatke your business to Fashion Place Mall where you will find better service, prices and selection as SurlaTable. read more

Unnecessarily high prices on most items. You will find some great deals here and there, but overall the price isn't justified at all. Absolutely dismal spice selection for a self proclaimed spice store. As far as the rest of their stock was concerned, I was shocked to find that they had a very wide selection, but very little that I actually wanted. Whether it was a specific item they didn't have with similar items or a brand that was carried everywhere in the store except for where it mattered, I just could not find the things I needed. Once again, they are absolutely price gouging. The only reason I am giving two stars is because everything was well organized and the staff was very friendly and helpful (though I can't help but feel they wanted me to leave as soon as I walked in the door). read more

I went into this place looking for a gift idea for my girlfriend, as with this Coronavirus she has taken a liking to home cooking. I left with a wonderful gift bag full of killer items I'm sure she will love. Well, it's been one year since my last visit and sadly nothing has changed. Everyone was greeted at the door and helped, except me, the long hair retired guy with lots of dollars to spend on cookware. Oddly enough I overheard the staff actually talking about the importance of individual customer service. Still, again, nothing. If it weren't so laughable I'd take it personally, but I'll shop elsewhere. Pity, good selection but I have no patience for people like that. read more

Spoons N' Spice has been around for awhile, though south of Salt Lake. I'm overjoyed that they finally moved closer. Their Sugarhouse location replaced that of Zurcher's (which moved over by Costco). I love Spoons N' Spice because they truly have great deals on most items. We got a Hurom juicer for 40% off (or maybe 50%, I can't quite recall), and we've gone back for a pasta maker (also at a great discount) and a low-priced mortar and pestle (I didn't realize how expensive these could be). I haven't tested out their return policy, but I haven't had to. Customer service is pretty good from our experience. I look forward to having enough money to go back! read more

If you're white, middle class, you can expect to be treated well. Don't expect good service if you're outside that. When I worked here, I was asked several times to profile customers who I thought were perfectly fine. Made me uncomfortable. Employees consistently complain about management's inability to modernize and interact with their own customers; inventory only reflects what management likes, which is often not in tune with current trends. Just more stuff for employees to dust every week. If you have no business experience, I'm SURE there's a management position open for you. It was also expressed to me that Spoons & Spice has no interest in supporting the Sugar House or SLC community to build business. There are certainly better local kitchen shops to go support. They need to go back to the suburbs. read more

The product selection is great but their return policy is terrible. When I went to return rancid cake release I had bought 2 days ago I didn't think there would be a problem. I was informed by their associate it is against state law to return food and wouldn't help me. I have returned food products to various other stores when there is a problem and have never heard that excuse before. Set foot in here and welcome to the most dangerous place in Salt Lake for me...easy to run up a fairly high bill because there's the one thing you need and a few cool accessories for it that are "must have" and then all the other cool gadgetry and spices and the ladies are so incredibly nice and charming that I could easily stay several hours...used bookstores and CD shops used to be my poison, back when there was more of them and they were better and my respective libraries were smaller, but now it's this place...I have to replace a good amount of kitchen stuff and as I'm well past my younger, more carefree years of just using whatever plastic something was around, I want to have something higher end. Preparing higher end and more challenging dishes requires finesse, technique and good ingredients, for sure, but just like you can't easily nail in shingles, so too here, the tools definitely do matter. This review is perhaps confusing me as much as perhaps you...am I steeling myself for progressively steeper bills for the higher end kitchen accouterments this place has (I noticed several items that I didn't know I needed that are now teetering past the "want" into "badly want" side of things, but not quite into "need" just yet) or actually trying to review a place? Both, perhaps. Literally everything you can think of is here and if not, they will get it for you. Nothing too cheap here, so don't come in unless you want higher end stuff, but that depends on preference, as in how many times you want to buy a particular thing. The layout is pretty well-designed and almost seems like a labyrinth designed to keep you in the store longer, but as every minute of circulating those aisles is highly pleasurable, this is not a downside. At all. Not even remotely. This place is one of the few that is literally all upside, all the way, 100%...excepting the parking, but parking in that atrocious area is hardly the fault of the store. Let me put it this way; in this case, it's well worth the dogfight to find a parking spot, unlike every other store in the immediate vicinity (this last bit does not include Tsunami or the movie theatre, it should be noted, which are also worth the fight). read more

I was very disappointed to read some of the reviews of this specialty shop. I have shopped here for years and never been disappointed. After reading the reviews, I went in today and was pleasantly greeted by not one, two, or three, but four smiling clerks. I was then assisted by two of those clerks, Lara and Nichole, until I found just what I was looking for! Everything you need in your kitchen, at your fingertips! Beware, you will leave with more than you planned to buy...but only because there's so much great stuff that you didn't even realize existed. I remember the first time I went to Spoons 'n Spice with my grandmother, at their first location in the Sugarhouse duplex. I fell in love with the aroma of the store and all of the amazing kitchen items. As I grew up, I followed them out to the store in Holladay, I visited the store in Sandy, and now I go to the new store in Sugarhouse because it's super convenient. I will always wax nostalgic about the original location, as well as the Holladay store, but I'm happy they are still around and have so many options available. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that we shopped here a few times before this review and we understand all things do not go as planned and knowing store policy is partly the shoppers responsibility. But...with an upscale store like this some leniency and being honest ( could blame it on ignorance as well, maybe with the benefit of the doubt) with the customers on the part of the store management goes a long way. We love kitchen shops and moved here from SD where we shopped at william-sonoma among others frequently because we love to cook and this store seemed to have a similar feel and quality, while being conveniently located. We purchased some poultry brine for a family member and then just before the holiday found out it was going to be a vegan affair. No worries, we are game for any new culinary adventure. After the holiday we went to the store to return the new, unopened and still well within expiration date ( years) items. We we told by the front desk associate ( who by the way checked with the manager) that it was " against state law" to take our items back even if it was for a store credit. So lets think about this, Hmmmmm..... you have customers that say they have shopped in your establishment a number of times, its mostly high end so there may be a possibility that they will spend money here in the future, and they are only returning less than $30.00 worth of items and only asked for a store credit, not their money back ( that should tell you that they still want to do business with you and maybe a lot more in the future). Sounds like a no brainer you would think, we even mentioned that we have had to return items to costco that fell into the same category and they said nothing about "state law". So upon further research, it ends up being that it is up to the proprietor of any establishment wheather to take items of said nature back or not at their discretion ( this is where the benefit of the doubt and the ignorance part from earlier somes in). Needless to say, for less than $30.00 worth of store credit, they lost our business. May not mean much to them, who knows, maybe this will increase their level of discernment and wisdom in doing business and maybe, just maybe, might increase a bit of their compassion for their clients.
