ordered shoes for my daughter for Christmas I received the wrong size so I contacted sport chek, they told me I would have to go to a courier and mail them back and wait for a return, if I still wanted these shoes I would have to go on and purchase a second pair. I received the second pair and AGAIN the wrong size! Now they are saying I have to go back and mail these ones back as well and purchasd a THIRD pair if I still want these shoes and wait for them to receive the other two pairs back before they will issue me a return. Got my skis online at Sportchek and brought them to have fitted with the bindings at the tech shop for free. No appointment required I just called before to confirm and they were able to take me the same day. Very seamless process. I brought one of my boots to leave with them to fit and they sent me on my way and they called me later the same day to let me know they were ready. Happy to be all set up ! ** UPDATE: spoke too soon haha tried on the boots with the skis at home and one of the bindings was set up incorrectly and too short so I will have to return to get it fixed. This is perhaps the biggest Sport Chek location I've yet visited. And they had a good promotion on when I visited. I was able to buy a whole bunch of good Christmas gifts here when I visited. That said the first staff member who helped me directed me to the wrong area of the store to seek out the gift which was listed as in stock at this location on the website. The second staff member was much more helpful. The line for the checkouts was long but it moved fast and given the promotion (getting Canadian Tire money for purchases!) going on at the time, I'm not surprised. We were able to find what we were seeking and head home. What I found fascinating was that the Edmonton Police Service were advising people to ensure that their cars were locked at the entrance to the store which seemed like a great touch to add to a busy shopping day in the lead up to Christmas, especially in a shopping centre such as South Edmonton Common. read more

I needed new running shoes the other day and swung by Sport Chek. The first guy to help me didn't seem to know what he was talking about. He recommended these trendy zig nano shoes that had terrible reviews when I looked them up online. The manager of the shoe department was great. He took a look at the shoes I brought to see where my feet land and what kind of shoes I'll need to accommodate that. Came here to look for some runners and a sports bra. No one helped us or asked us if we needed assistance. We couldn't even find a person to ask for any help. The line up at the tills was super long and didn't look like it was moving. They did have some beautiful clothing but I was not willing to stand in that long line and pay. I really wanted someone to help us with runners and we weren't able to get any assistance. That all being said it is a long weekend and I couldn't see on display the runners I really wanted. I tend to shop here a lot, but I'm not really sure why. It might have something to do with the fact that I usually know what I want and where to find it, or it might be because I'm not in the mood to drive any further. I can count on one hand the number of times a staff member has asked me if I need help; otherwise I have to hunt them down, club them over the head, and drag them by the hair to the department I need help in. I've been to this Sport Chek a few times since it's conveniently located in the South Park Center near Whitemud. In general, I have no complaints with Sport Chek. The service has been disappointing on quite a few occasions, especially on busy days. As noted by Dave C. in his review of another Sport Chek, one ends up spending a lot of time finding someone to get help from. When it comes to sporting equipment, I'm certainly not an expert and would love to understand why, say, a certain pair of skates is over $300, while many of the same brand ones are available for lot less. It's certainly not something clear to me because I'm not really into sports. On such occasions, I do find the need for help. I've noticed almost every time I've been here, there's been a sale on something or the other in the store. I think they have good deals, but many people tell me they're expensive. This shop is located close to Canadian Tire and I would check in out there and see the prices first. It's a good sporting goods shop, particularly because they have a wide range of products from novice/beginner levels to expert levels. I'm not sure how many experts come here though. Last night I was helped a lot and hence I upgrade them to a 3 star. The woman that helped me really tried to explain the difference between rain jackets I was looking to buy and I'm thankful for that. I must add though, me and my friend were the only ones there last night. All in all, I'm bound to come here again to buy stuff or just to look at stuff. I think they have decent sales every now and then, especially end of season. Come here with someone who knows stuff about different goods so that you don't have to depend on finding some help at the store. read more

I can only attest to the service in the shoe department. I've been in the store 3 times during my work break looking for shoes, and I have never been helped or have yet to see an employee anywhere!!! I've also called and have been put on hold for 5+ minutes on a Wednesday when it's probably slow. West edmonton mall location is much better even if it gets busy as they have much better staff, service, selection, and shoe size stock. I purchased a John Tavares hockey jersey for his birthday and when the package finally arrived they left the security tag on. you can't call for online help you can email them but been over 3 days no response. I will never buy from them again this is unacceptable as I work in an insurance company and we were able to mobilize all our employees home but seems sports chek didn't and they only care about new orders not servicing the ones the screw up on. read more

I will never shop here again. I went in to buy new inline skates because my old ones are almost dead. I came in knowing exactly what I wanted and was prepared to wait in the check-out line that had at least 15 people in it. I asked the staff member to get me my size. Instead he started an extremely condescending conversation. He told me the skates that I had chosen had no brakes. I knew that, I know how to brake without them. Then he asked what I was using them for and told me that the wheels wouldn't last for outdoor use. I knew that too, I have spare wheels. I've been skating since I was seven and I know my stuff. When he brought out the skates and I had just laced them up, he asked me if I wore a helmet. I said no. I am an adult and it's my choice to decide if I want to wear one. He told me that for "insurance reasons" they cannot sell to anyone who doesn't wear a helmet (even though I've bought skates here before). This is a lie and I find it repulsive that Sport Chek and their sales representatives would lie to their customers to get an extra sale. I did not buy the skates and I will no longer shop here. I'll go to United Cycle down the road where the staff treat their customers with respect and don't make stuff up to get an extra commission. read more

Yesterday afternoon I was in the Southpark location looking for school shoes for my three teenage children. I was, at first, hopeful as the store did not appear too busy... by the end of my visit it was clear why. There were not any service staff to be found in the shoe department. After searching through every box in the appropriate sizes, the selection available was limited at best. We decided to continue our search for school shoes elsewhere. Unfortunately, my daughter found a pair of casual shoes that she adored. This was a VERY unfortunate situation for me because I then proceeded to wait at the checkout, in line for over forty minutes. There were two cashiers working and approximately 12-15 people in line. This is completely unacceptable. I am absolutely beside myself for waiting in line for so long for a $30 pair of shoes. I'm certain the customers following me in line were just as unimpressed as I was. I will avoid this location in the future at ALL COSTS. read more

I had a really great experience dealing with this Sport Chek. I was in a huge panic to find uniforms for a group of students going on a volleyball tournament in Costa Rica. I had phoned around and no one else would really put in the time. I finally called South Park Sport Chek and was able to speak to a more than willing, excellent employee; Nicole Catherood (?? not sure how to spell it). She went above and beyond to help me find the perfect shorts and tops and was more than willing to answer any of my questions.
