I just had my knee replaced (February 15, 2023) by a qualified orthopedic surgeon after Dr. Weinstein completely ruined it leaving me in a ton of pain in September 2020. Is there is more money in attempted repair than the TKR I had originally requested? I now wonder. Regardless, it has been just over a week; I am off pain killers and moving around with only a cane. I can even walk a little on even ground unassisted. With Weinstein and I couldn't walk properly for months. So after four months I went went back and complained to his face... which was a complete waste of time. My advice (and I did it this time) get multiple opinions, recommendations and do not let your self get sweet talked. Also pick a surgeon that specializes in the particular joint you are replacing or at least that are of the body, not one that can, or does, replace all sorts of other body parts. read more

I could not have asked for a better experience here. I recommend this place 100% for any orthopedic surgery. I am a competitive powerlifter and I tore my vastus lateralis muscle (one of the quad muscles) attempting to squat 650lbs in a competition. It was nearly a full rupture of the quad muscle and my 28 inch thigh swelled up to well above 30 inches in circumference. Due to the nature of the injury it was imperative to get it looked at and operated on quickly. The staff at SOS got me in and out faster than I would have anywhere else. I got an MRI scheduled the same day as my initial appointment, and a surgery within ~2 weeks, even around the Thanksgiving holiday. Marissa at the front desk is always happy to help and made scheduling and payments a breeze. The X-ray technicians are friendly and accommodating especially when I could hardly move my leg. The PAs and doctors are great and were very mindful when removing stitches. Dr. Weinstein is everything I wanted in my surgeon. He is very knowledgeable and to the point. He won't lie to you or beat around the bush. He gave me the pros and cons of surgery and the possible outcomes with the various choices I had. The surgery itself was very successful and I am nearly back to where I was. He has taken the extra steps to make sure I get back to my goals of squatting heavy again and not stopping at "it's good enough". He treated me like a powerlifter and never once suggested that I should give up on squatting, which was incredibly helpful mentally, especially right after the injury. read more

Had Reversed Shoulder Replacement done by Dr Weinstein a few weeks into December and so far it was a great experience. From the first day I walked into his offices everything has just clicked with great communication. I had a X-ray done the day of my first visit and I had already had several X Rays, CT and MRIs done years in the past so I knew what I was up against. I really like the way he communicates, he's very direct and down to earth. He said well.....the shoulder has significant bone loss and muscle tears. We can try some shots to elevate the pain or the only other option is shoulder replacement. What path would you like to take? I immediately said I want full replacement. I told him about all the past information I had collected and what past options I was given. All of which pushed me toward pain relief only. I was done with that and ready to have my shoulder repaired permanently once and for all. And I could see he new I was ready. He called in one of his staff people who scheduled his surgery's and from that point forward things just moved along perfectly. It was about a 4 month +\~ out schedule to surgery date but in that time others pre-op items were taken care of and items at home needed to be done as well before surgery date. Surgery was performed at Mercy Hospital across the street from his offices. I was very pleased with the Hospital staff and the way everyone did there jobs to make me as comfortable as possible. I was in and out the very next day by noon. This was not my first time being in a hospital for surgeries, so I knew what I was in for. I will need my other shoulder replaced next year and won't hesitate to come back to Dr Weinstein and have it done at Mercy Hospital. Outstanding surgeon and surgical staff. read more

I have been training for a bodybuilder event and had shoulder issues... ultimately tearing my labrum... after attempting conservative management without relief I was left with surgery as my only option. He thoroughly explained, and helped me through the surgery and recovery process. Don't see Dr. John Matthews 1. My arm was hurting for months so I go to the doctor. My primary care doctor says it's either tendonitis or bursitis and sends me to an orthopedic doctor for a steroid shot that is supposed to help. 2. I see Dr. Matthews, who says no shot, you have to do physical therapy first. He gives me a brace (well, I paid for it) and tells me to wear it all the time. He refers me to a physical therapist-Athletico in Gilbert. 3. I do 6 weeks of physical therapy, am feeling MUCH better, until my last week of therapy when the therapist ignores my telling him my arm hurts as he loaded on extra weight to my exercises. I completely re-injured my arm because of him. 4. I go to Dr. Matthews again for follow up. First thing he says is "Why are you wearing that particular brace? It's all wrong for your problem." I said well, I'm wearing it because you told me to. I tell him about the physical therapy debacle. He says not to bother going back. Asks me who referred me to that physical therapist. I say YOU DID. 5. He tells me he can do surgery, with no guarantee it will fix the issue. I say no. He says "well what do you want then? You want the shot? I'll give you the shot." I ask if it will help. He says "maybe. It can also cause muscle tears." I say no again so he says "I can't help you." I ask if that means my arm is just always going to hurt and says "probably." I spent, all in all, with all the PT copays, doctor copays, and the brace, $490. I spent almost $500, wasted hours and hours of my time, and got absolutely nothing in return. I realize doctors can't magically cure my pain, but his lack of concern (or even remembering who I was) for my situation, along with the incompetence of selling me a brace that he himself admits is completely incorrect for my condition is inexcusable. The brace was extremely uncomfortable and I wore it for six weeks. It interrupted my sleep. He should be refunding my money for the physical therapy referral and his copays and the brace. And he should learn to review his frickin charts before walking into an exam room. If he had bothered to look at my chart he would have known he gave me the brace and referred the PT. My situation may be just a small medical issue, but I'd never want him as a surgeon. He probably wouldn't review my chart then, either. Run, don't walk away from this provider. read more

Rude and unhelpful front office staff. My husband had no problems getting his shoulder surgery here, but I have had hassles with the office regarding my insurance and appointments. I was on time for my appointment, walked in, and immediately front desk clerk looked at me and said "You're 30 min. late. You need to be here 30 min early when you have a new issue to be looked at." Saw Dr Meszaros. For torn hamstring. Terrible bedside manner. I was in pain gave 5 days worth pain meds sent me for tests confirmed my tears. I took Tylenol allot for pain because he doesn't give squat. He wrote in the reports pulled muscle. What a quack! He should have stayed an engineer cause he's not a nice DR. BTW I had to heal on my own I'm for me now and out of pain. read more

I can not speak of Dr Weinstein, as he appears to be a good doctor, however my complaint is with the front office and office manager staff. Today, 3 weeks before my scheduled knee replacement surgery, she ( the woman I believe to be the office manager) made an "executive" decision to cancel my surgery because I questioned a magazine in their lobby. Instead of privately inquiring of the situation she proceed to make statements in front of anybody in the lobby and was very unprofessional in how she dealt with the entire situation. In the end I feel prejudiced against and maybe even discriminated for asking a question. So by all means careful what you ask, you may be cancelled, as it appears to be the norm these days. If this is the way they deal with patients I do not feel they are the place for me. Going elswhere. read more

Went in for a dislocated shoulder. The x-ray tech was wonderful. Saw one of the PAs who ordered an MRI and explained their in-office SimonMed representative would reach out the following day to schedule the MRI. Did not receive a call from SimonMed rep. Called Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists (SOS) office for assistance and they explained I needed to talk with SimonMed to schedule. Called SimonMed directly to schedule the MRI and was told the in-office rep at SOS had to schedule the MRI. Called SOS and they said I had to schedule with SimonMed directly. This back and forth went on for 3 days and included 2+ hours of time on the phone. Still, no one was unable to get the MRI scheduled. Finally decided to go to a different Orthopedist. It shouldn't be this difficult. read more

I was at a point where the thought of any type of walking made me cringe I met with Dr Weinstein and he gave me several alternatives. I've been coming for over a year and I can walk and workout without pain in my knees. All of the staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Dr. Weinstein is awesome. He helped fix my tendonitis. He truly cares about his patients and his PA Nicole is pretty great too. They never gave up on fixing my arm. The front office staff was always sweet and helpful. I did have some issues with the surgery scheduler, Aurora, which would cause a lost star or two but everyone else makes up for it. Even after my surgery got cancelled, the office manager made up for all the issues that occurred since then and refunded my deposit. That meant tons to me, especially since I lost my job over all this mess with my arm. But things are meant to be and none of that takes away from Dr. Weinstein and his knowledge on fixing my elbow. Injured my shoulder and called for an appointment with Dr Weinstein at SOS. As mentioned previously, always have received top-notch care here for multiple members of my family and friends. Was greeted by friendly staff that pays close attention to details and remembers patients. Very knowledgeable associates and a definitely plus that everything needed is right there - xray, ultrasound, etc. Dr Weinstein was very thorough, as always, with a great "bedside manner", taking the time to ensure I understood all the details and explaining all potential treatments and outcomes. I know time is very precious to everyone, especially in today's hustle and bustle, but I really appreciate that Dr Weinstein and his staff care about their patients and not just treated as a number or quickest in/out turn arounds. ZERO STARS FOR DR. WINSTEIN'S OFFICE....I was referred by Disc to SOS Dr. Weinstein I heard he is pretty good however, I will not experience his expertise since the front office made sure of that. Let me explain, I tried to schedule an appointment straight from checking out after being seen by Dr. Yeung at Disc I was asked if they can call me to schedule the appoint since they were busy. I had no problem with that, three days went by and no appointment, finally I contacted Dr. Weinstein's office, they left me on hold 25 minutes, when answered, immediately the woman's voice was abrupt and rude and told me they could not scheduled me or give me an appointment date until I submit all paperwork from the referring Dr. (whaaat! they share the same office) and while telling me this she kept putting me on hold every other minute. I like to say Dr. Yeung's office and his staff were very professional but SOS FRONT OFFICE STAFF LACK IN ALL AREAS. I'm going somewhere else. read more

Dr D'Apice has managed my arthritis for several years. Dr D'Apice and Dr Weinstein have always been thorough, knowledgeable, accessible and take the time to answer my questions. I visit SOS's office a few times a year and find all aspects of the office to be friendly, prompt, and helpful. Just this morning, I called and requested copies of my last visit. I received them on the patient portal before I could hang up the phone. My longest wait, maybe 10 min. Dr Weinstein performed a subchondroplasty procedure at Gilbert Mercy, and all that went smoothly as well. I will continue to recommend SOS. read more

This place is incredible. Incredibly slow which translates to rude. My time is pretty important but apparently not to anyone at this office. I was told to be at the office at 9:30. I had all paperwork filled out from their online site. I waited 10 minutes before xrays and that wasnt bad. After that I was put into an exam room where I waited for 1 hour and 15 minutes. NO ONE came in to tell me that the wait would be awhile. Finally I got my stuff and went to the reception desk and let them know my dr's appt was at 10 and it was 11:00am. The exam room was uncomfortable and I was in pain and they told me the Dr. was "behind" ... really? an Hour? The staff should have informed me of this so that I would have the option of rescheduling. They said they were sorry I "felt that way" ... Not that they were sorry they overbook or left me in the room. Just sorry that I felt pissed off. The least they could have done was check on me to make sure I didnt have to use the restroom or want a glass of water. Nothing. No contact. Just me and the empty exam room. Sat in the waiting room for 1 hour, no acknowledgement until I walked to the front desk and was then offered to see how long it would be.. No Thanks... We went to S.O.S after my 6 year old fractured his wrist. Dr. Linder was friendly and worked well with children. The Dr. asked if we wanted an "Exos" cast and that it would be more expensive. I asked how much and he said that it was around $700/$800.00 and he would have his staff check on my portion of the bill with insurance. His assistant came in too quickly and I asked if she had checked on the price and she stated she had not. I told her I wanted to know how much it was because I would not have wanted it if my part was too expensive. She left and came back after a while and told me that it would be $100.00 to me that B/C B/S would not cover. I said fine and she fit the cast for my son. **Side note - The cast didn't work very well as the cords consistently got tangled, so not worth the extra $. I later received a bill for more than the $100.00 that I was told. When I was in the office for our next apt. I spoke to the the lady in charge of billing and she told me, in a rude manner, "they didn't have time to call on insurance for everyone". (I would have been ok with that if they told me that at the beginning). She then told they would discuss it with the Dr.'s at the Friday meeting. Again, I received another bill for more than the original $100.00 I was quoted. I then called and was told, "the bill stands". When I asked to speak to the lady in charge of billing I was told she was busy to leave a message. I did, 3 days ago. No call back. So while the Dr. was great I will not go there again because of the rudeness and the lack of courtesy of no return call. read more

After a yelp review a few weeks ago, I got a call today from an office member- Sara. My yelp review stated that I was referred to SOS and Dr. Weinstein from a friend/NP. I had an MRI the next day. After TWO weeks, the staff didn't call with my results! Dr. W told me, 'once we get your MRI back, we will call to schedule an appt where we can talk about your options.' That never happened. When I called, I was told, 'it's the patient's responsibility to call after they have an MRI." ?? Not sure how us patients would know WHEN they get the MRI results... never in my life have I heard of that, and it's NOT what the doctor told me. This Sara girl, I guess she was told to call to follow up. WRONG person elected to do that. It was basically her trying to repremand me for not knowing to call to follow up after my MRI. She kept saying, 'I mean, I am not putting this on you, but....' and after I told her what is going on, she said, 'Well, everyone gets busy and life issues come up.' WHAT?? Is that the excuse?? They are a doctor's office! That's their job. This Sara girl has no business dealing with patients. What a shame, because I have heard good things about Dr. W, but would never ever recommend or go back due to such snobby little girls that work for him. Remember, you are dealing with patients and people's lives... attitudes are not okay! Customer service people. So no... never would I trust these people with my leg! OH and the kicker is this... if the MRI was read and I was called like I should have been, I could have avoided a major reconstruction of my joint. It may have been a simple repair. Now that it's been weeks, my new ortho said scar tissue has taken over and a total reconstruction is needed. So their little 'miscommunication' is costing me thousands of dollars and a BIG surgery. I contacted this office because my son broke his thumb. I communicated that I would be a cash pay patient but would need the fee to be processed through my health sharing program. I was quoted $450 for a standard cast (no surgery needed). The service was great...my issue is communication, or lack of. No surgery was needed and a cast was put on my son. A follow up visit was needed and scheduled. We attended that visit and everything looked good. Another visit was scheduled and the tech (I'm assuming she was a tech) told me, because of the heat and sweaty boys, they changed out the cast half way through the treatment. (not medically necessary) After three appointments, the cast was removed. Two months later, I received a bill for $1185.99. I contacted the billing person, Jessica to figure out the discrepancy. She had no answer. I contacted the office manager, Beatrice and was told, "The cash price for a cast is $450." But, because I visited the office 3 times, those charges were not included in the quoted price of $450. I asked her, "How many patients come to the office, get a cast and never come back for follow up appointments or even to take off the cask?" She responded, "not many". When someone is asking about prices, it means they are concerned with how much it will cost. Is this the first cast they have done in this office? Did they not know that it would require more than one visit? (someone at a minimum would have to remove the cast) The answers to these questions are obvious. This is bad communication. The second cast was to bill a non existent insurance company to increase the office revenues, now I a burdened with this cost. Look, I realize that Doctors have overhead...they need to make money...they have sacrificed much time educating themselves in their specific field. My problem is the lack of communication that was shown to me, an individual trying to support my family and wanting to know how much is a service is going to cost me. read more

I injured my hamstring on Friday and Dr. Weinstein was able to get me in on Monday by staying late. He and his sports trainer did a thorough ultrasound exam and gave me a treatment plan I felt comfortable with. I was very impressed with the friendly and professional staff but mostly that Dr. Weinstien was able to fit me in on short notice. I called a number of other Ortho docs before I found SOS and they seemed nice but they weren't flexible and accommodating. My experience was totally different that the other reviewers here on Yelp, nobody was rude, nobody was inconsiderate, and they have been really responsive. Thank you. read more
