I really liked this place when I started here, and then... after a couple of mediocre haircuts and one very bad experience with the reception, I think I'm looking for a new place... The business called me to change my appointment, of which I made time to do so. I unfortunately had to change the time I changed to (within an hour of making the appointment), but as someone else pointed out it is IMPOSSIBLE to get anyone to pick up the phone. So I left a message. They also sent me texts to try to resolve the issue. So I reponded. Someone eventually called me to schedule my appointment to 10am. I then got a TEXT asking me if I want to schedule for 9am. I said, no I have the appointment for 10am. When I went in, I was told my appointment was at 9. I showed the texts that PROVED that I had a 10am scheduled and I was told it was MY fault, too bad they're booked. This isn't the first mix up here, so it's not an isolated incident. If they can't get this right, or customer service right I wonder how my dog is being treated while he gets his haircut... Time to find a new place. read more

We had a one and done very bad experience here. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. I had reached out to the owner to ask about grooming for our pup, I let her know our dog is a senior and requires gentle care, and was clear on what we wanted haircut wise. She said all of that was totally fine and she'd have her best groomer on it, and we booked an appointment. When I took our pup in, I didn't get to speak with the groomer, but the girl at the front desk assured me they had the notes and pics I had forwarded. I felt uneasy as the other "groomers" in the shop were all talking loud, listening to loud music, and dressed in really baggy clothes ( not smart when you're cutting dog's hair). I'm upset that the vibe didn't turn me away, I should've listened to my intuition as this place did not seem good at all. When I went to pick up our pup, her cut was AWFUL. Totally choppy, uneven, and she looked half bathed. I emailed the owner and she confirmed the groomer had been busy, so they had someone else do Twinkle's cut. This other person was new, and totally ruined Twinkle's cut, as well as mishandled her. My stomach was upside down. The owner offered me a 10% discount off the cut, and said she would give us 50% off the next cut. She promised me that it would not go poorly again. First of all, NOTHING WENT AS SHE SAID IT WOULD, and the best "customer service" she offered was 10% off the totally botched job??!! Second, why on earth would we ever trust them and subject our sweet girl to this chaos and lack of skill A SECOND TIME!!?? I said how about give us at least the 50% off this time- but really she should have refunded us fully and either properly trained that incompetent groomer or fired him. Overall, the service was terrible, and the owner was more interested in keeping her $100 than righting the wrong that was done by her and her staff. I strongly advise against taking your precious pets to this shop, from owner, to front desk to groomer, it's all bad. read more

My 6lb chihuahua mix who's never had issues elsewhere came back with a blood shot red eye. They said it was because they had to mussel him. I just found out if an eye turns red it's most likely because they held them around the neck for too long, which is why I am leaving the review even though it's been a couple years. Spot was awesome and patient with our 10 year-old labradoodle, who has multiple medical issues. She was long overdue for grooming, because her previous grooming experience (with a mobile groomer) resulted in a sprained ACL and subsequent uti (because she wouldn't pee due to the pain in her knee to squat). Add on a laryngeal paralysis issue and an anxious personality and you have a REALLY tough grooming challenge! Spot handled her fantastically, and took extra time with her. So glad we found Spot!! I have been a customer at spot pet grooming for over two years and I'm in shock at how rude Katherine the co-manger was today when I picked up my dog. I asked to put a tip onto the charge for the groomer and Katherine snapped at me that it costs them more money when I use the credit card that they keep on file. She deleted the transaction not allowing me to add a tip and abruptly turned her back on me while I was talking, walked back into the room to continue grooming the dog she had left unattended on the table and never returned. It was she who told me I could keep my card on file so I find her rudeness strange. If there is a problem with keeping the card on file then she could have handled the situation so much more professionally. In a nut shell I'm tired of dealing with Katherine's bad mood depending on the day, this world is a really stressful place and to be treated so unkindly when you spend $75.00 plus tip for your dogs hair cut is just not acceptable. The groomer is really great but I don't need the negative energy and there are plenty of great dog groomers in mill valley who treat their customers like they would want to be treated. read more

I was desperate to find a place to trim my pit bulls' nails today while we were already out. My vet, Tamalpais Pet, recommended Spot Pet Care. I had already missed their AM nail trimming time, & was way too early for the PM. Ok, I kind of begged to see if we could come any since we were already in Mill Valley. Without any hesitation, they said, Yes!" Not only did they do a great job on my dogs nails, they also made us feel welcomed & cared for as if we were one of the family. As my bf would said, "Biggie looks like a million bucks!" I have found my most favorite dog groomer place in Marin! For years, I've been going to Shampooches in San Ramon, but it's too far from us now. The owner Caroline is darling! Her little doggy boutique is my dream--To run my own doggy store! After looking at the spa services, Biggie decided to get the TOP of the line service, which was $60, not including tip. They used organic shampoo and conditioner on him, trimmed his beautiful mane, waxed his paws, anal gland (i know, gross), trimmed his nails, and most importantly, his favorite part was the blueberry facial! Out of all the salons he's been to, he looked very relaxed and calm when I picked him up. I can't wait for Biggie to get dirty and messy so I can take him to this precious little place again. I want my Yorkie back. I should have listened to Betsy when I brought her here and accidentally dropped the leash while I was waiting for the groomer to come out. She headed straight for the door. I have not had my Yorkie professionally groomed for a year and a half. To save money, I bought my own clippers and taught myself how to do it via YouTube. I was eager to get a professional job done again so I would have a nice line to follow, as I felt it had gotten out of hand. When I discussed the cut with the groomer, I showed her pictures of the last professional job - a perfect round head. I said I wanted "a standard Yorkie head," as the groomer specified. I have seen a lot of Yorkies - up to 30 at once at Yorkie events- and I have never seen any looking like my dog did when she came out. The receptionist had me pay before I saw the dog. I'm not going to tip until I see the dog - that's just plain silly. When they brought her out I was in such shock that I tipped WAY too much, since I shouldn't have tipped at all. First of all, her body fur was sticking straight out from her body, like she was vacuumed and then electrocuted. I have seen shitzus looking like that, but never a Yorkie. Their hair lies flat against their bodies. Worst of all, her face looked like a fox. All eyes ears and nose, not by any means the "standard Yorkie head" that I showed her a picture of. The hair below her chin is less than 1/4 inch long, when it should be at least an inch. The tiny head combined with the electrocuted fur made my dog look very odd as she is a bit chunky. Shouldn't the groomer, a supposed professional, be able to make my dog look balanced, better than she did before? Finally, Betsy spend the rest of the day curled up on the floor at my feet, rather than in her bed as she usually does. She *never* sits on the floor at home. Clearly she was slightly traumatized. Now my dog is extremely cute, and she still looks cute even with this cut, but four days later I still can't get used to it. Having a dog with a bad hair cut is worse than having a bad haircut yourself, because you spend more time looking at your dog than you do in front of the mirror. I will give Spot points for making her fur very soft, and to the staff for being very nice. But clearly they don't know how to groom a Yorkie, and now I get to live with a weird looking dog for the next month or so. I'll be doing the grooming from now on. read more

I took my puppy there for her first professional nail treatment and she was treated so nicely. She was spoiled by the sample treats as well as the friendly service. Everyone there was so nice, I especially like the window into the grooming area so I could watch Isis getting her nails done. She looked pretty relaxed and looked to get through the process very easily. The groomer was fast, professional, friendly and efficient. I loved the selection of items for sale, and look forward to additional merchandise being showcased in this very friendly, fun store. Yogi got to experience Spot Pet Care this morning, and I would venture to say his experience was a good one. They cleaned up his "perimeter" and he walked out very soft, smelling nice, and somewhat resembling a stuffed animal from the behind (I'm still getting used to this new "look"). Groomer Kelly paid attention to my likes/dislikes when we were having our consult and seemed to adhere to them. The deshed process she did on him too seems to have worked - much less shedding after we walked out the door. She also seemed amenable to using scissors-only on him if I had really wanted it (I relented to the clippers, just to see how they did with blending). I took my Cocker Spaniel puppy here for a bath & summer haircut. I have to say the staff was very friendly, she felt right at home. Her coat was muddy, full of burrs and a bit tangled when she went in. She came home glowing with a gorgeous short haircut. I didn't get her nails done, maybe if I bring my Pug to them... Finding pet nail trimming was hard in Marin County until we found Pet Spot. The outcall trimming service we found really difficult to schedule and the owner was pretty rude when I got sick and had to cancel 24 hours in advance. Luckily, we found Pet Spot. We've been here twice to get our dog's nails trimmed. It was a no hassel, walk in appointment after 4 pm that took 5 mins. Rudy, our dog, was super happy afterwards and the staff is really nice and gave him treats. The price was $15. If you call Pet Spot, their message will describe the walk in nail trimming schedule. Can't say enough good things about a great customer experience for us and our dog. Both my wife and I are afraid of hittting the quick (sp?) Andngetting a yipe from him. This took all that fear away. I really like this place, but more importantly my pup does. My little dog Chase wants to give this place five stars. I dropped chase off for his first bath last week. Now, Chase is a little golden retriever who I thought was as soft and as clean as one can get already. I thought there might not be a lot they can do but Ill feel like a less neglectful puppy mom if I can at least say I have given him a bath. I just happened into this place a month or so ago but was not ready at the time to take him in for a bath-he hadn't had all his shots. The owner was so nice and gave my chase a treat for free. Chase was sold. He told us to come back when Chase was ready. The basic bath is 29.99 and includes nail trim and clips. This seemed like an awesome deal. I got him in right away, made the appointment the night before. It was hard to leave him there, having never left him. So for the next few hours I wasted time in Mill Valley. The boutiques in Mill Valley are a perfect distraction when missing your pup. Two hours later they called me and told me he was just about ready. My dog was so soft when I picked him up, I briefly thought about somehow making him into a pillow. He smelled so good. They assured me that all of the shampoos were organic and hypo allergenic which is great for my sensitive boy. But he still smelled wonderful. I couldn't stop smelling him all day. Chase felt so good about himself. She had put a little black bandana on him with skulls for Halloween, so my chase really felt like a bad ass as he strutted through the town square, demanding tummy rubs with a new found confidence. Although it was our first grooming experience we have no need to look elsewhere. This will be Chase's monthly appointment. And hopefully I won't be so nervous next time I can actually concentrate on shopping. read more

I've used Spot now 4-5 times for my Australian Shepherd. Although it's not her favorite place to be I know it's not because of the facility. They are super nice and caring as most of the other reviews state. They do excellent work on aussie cuts and know the difference b/w a summer cut or just a trim. I also like that I can ask them to just clean up the skirt area and they make it look nice and neat. The dremmel file on for the nails is the best part though. I hate clippers b/c they leave the nails all ragged. The file makes them nice a smooth. Most excellent job always! read more

My dog gets groomed here, they do an ok job. The cuts are not spectacular, just ok. I'm about to find a new groomer because Katherine the co-manger is rude and condescending. This woman should not be working here. I've never been treated so poorly. She'll chew you out and talk to you like dirt for no reason, like she gets off on it or something. Totally unacceptable behavior I do not understand why they keep her, you have to walk on tiptoes, or she will shame the hell out of you. The other reviews complain abut Katherine one are spot on. This place is amazing. We take our samoyed, Homer, here to get groomed every few months and the staff always takes such good care of him. He's usually such a scardey cat at places like this, but he always comes in and out of Spot Pet Care smiling. Plus, it's one of the more affordable grooming places in Marin and they're better than most too! We drive 30 minutes just come here because the one time we tried a groomers near our house we paid nearly double for a mediocre job. Yay! Catherine and her team are amazing! After searching Google and Yelp for dog groomers I found Spot Pet Care and I'm so glad I did! In my house we have two dogs - a lab/rottweiler mix and a Yorkie, so finding a groomer who will take both of them on short notice is really challenging. I found their website scheduling to be a little glitchy, but a phone call solved those problems. The big dog got the deluxe bath and the Yorkie got a haircut. If your dog sheds like crazy like mine does, go for the deluxe bath - the de-shedding process alone is worth it! Also, for a large and older dog what I appreciated was they used a harness of sorts to help support her hips during the bath and services. When my dogs came out they looked and smelled so good, I could not believe it! Having gotten rid of all of the excess hair on the big dog really helped and she looks so much younger and healthier! I've taken the dogs to Petco for grooming before since they're usually available for day-of services and I've always been upset with how the Yorkie's face looks sloppy/choppy, but at Spot his face was so clean and they really cleaned his eyes up. The big dog also came out sporting a fancy bandanna with colorful turtles. Parking can be quite difficult to come by so I suggest finding a spot and coughing up the meter charges since the area is super busy. Thank you, Spot Pet Care! We will be back. read more

This place is the best. My Cavalier came here for years. I could have found something closer to my home in San Rafael but Spot cares more, they do great complete washes, my dog always came out of Spot fresh without a wet dog smell. I did have to try a few other groomers when Spot was too busy for a last minute appointment; was never worth it, my dog was either traumatized or smelled like he was half clean or both. I got smart, and Spot put us on a set schedule. Catherine is Awesome, if you don't think so- there's something wrong with you. Catherine knows her grooming and dogs well. Our beautiful Bichon has been going to Spot Pet Care for several years. Catherine does a fabulous job listening, advising and grooming her perfectly. Heisu has separation anxiety and the entire staff treats her royally. We recently adopted younger sister Dharma and after Catherine's expert hands, she looks absolutely adorable. I get the sense that these dogs know how pretty they are after coming home from Spot Care. As others have commented, they smell wonderful. After two years of being a loyal customer, I unfortunately will not be bringing my dog back to Spot Pet Care. My husband was 12 minutes late dropping off our dog for her monthly appointment. I do acknowledge being late but most businesses do offer a 10-15 minute grace period - even your family doctor! The rude treatment we received was unwarranted in my opinion. After he arrived, he waited for 10 minutes outside Spot's front door along with other customers for his turn to drop off our dog. He stood there for 10 minutes and when they finally got to him, the groomer said "your 20+ minutes late....we cannot take your dog today". My husband who drove all the way down from Kentfield, left and was furious. I sent a polite email requesting an explanation for why our dog was turned away for seemingly such a short tardiness? I received a call back later during which the groomer rudely accused us of lying about the timeline. I am extremely disappointed, as I thought these were genuinely nice people who love what they do. I must rate this place 4 stars for their wonderful service, fair rates, and convenience. I love that you can go online and book your appointment. No more long waits on the phone for a harried response on the other end. I've been to other places in the area and either it's impossible to get an appointment or you pay dearly for the services you get. My dog wags his tail when we walk in the door at Spot Care and the ladies lavish attention on him once they see him. I like the viewing area, where you see pooches calmly getting their haircuts. My usual dog groomer was closed for the holidays, so I stopped by Spot Pet Care, hoping they would take pity on me and my dirty dog.
