I took my two dogs to Ziggy's Pet Grooming for what I thought would be a routine grooming appointment, but it turned into a nightmare. The staff not only mishandled my dogs but caused serious injuries by chopping off their claws and cutting the quick on five claws of my smaller dog and two on my larger dog. They were still bleeding hours later when we got home. When I initially called to schedule their appointments, the guy on the phone simply told me to bring them in at 8:30. However, upon arrival, the owner informed us that we should have made an appointment. She claimed her ex-husband sabotages her by doing this over the phone. It was a chaotic and unprofessional atmosphere from the start. The facility itself was filthy, which made me question their overall hygiene and care standards. After reading all the negative reviews, I truly wish I had done my research beforehand. One review mentioned that a dog died there, which is beyond alarming. I will never return to Ziggy's Pet Grooming, and I strongly advise anyone considering this place to think twice. Our experience was unacceptable, and I can't believe they are still in business. Took my dog in for a nail trim. Spoke with a gentleman and he went in the back to grab a lady to speak with me regarding the service. She took my dog to the back. Heard whimpering in the back but didn't think anything of it. She came back out and told me how great of a dog I have (also not thinking anything about it). Charged me $20. I left and when I got home, I looked at his paws and they were bleeding. They cut his nails beyond the pink oval where they bleed on two paws. Unbelievable. We just moved to the area and Ziggy's is a 10min walk from our neighborhood. My 12 year old dog, Tyrion was needing a short haircut with the warmer weather. I brought him in early around 8:45am and he was the 1st appt of the day. I received a call to pick him up just an hour later, super quick! They did such a great job and he looks like a cute puppy again. You can tell everyone who works here loves all the dogs and treats them really well. My chihuahua/ Italian greyhound mix is such a sweetheart, but try to clip his nails? Hah he turns into Satans spawn! It's close to impossible and I've tried everything-I took him to a few places and because he grows,bears his teeth, pees, and does everything in his power to not cooperate-he's been turned down and I was desperate and felt bad for my dogs super long nails. I heard about Ziggys and was told to try them. I went in as my last option before I would have to take him to the vet for a sedated nail trim( which I couldn't afford every month) They took him right then and there,said no problem. Just like that-I was ecstatic! They take the aggressive/ difficult cases that most groomers can't handle! They were so easy, nice and literally finished my dogs nails in under 10 minutes!! I've taken my puppy to Ziggy's for about a year for grooming services and boarding when I'm away. Marielena Rioja who runs the operation is a super nice woman who really cares about the dogs. Every time my dog Pootie comes home from a grooming session, she's happy, smells great (until she rolls in dirt at the dog park) and her nails and orifices are done right. I've boarded her with Ms. Rioja twice. Both times my dog had a great time and was very well cared for and loved by Ms. Rioja. Shoot, I think my dog wanted to stay with Marielena when I went to pick Pootie up! I've not found any service better. I 100% recommend Ziggy's. Their a local family owned business in San Rafael. My mother was a long time customer with Ziggys. She only had positive things to say and always loved the way her dog, Benji, looked and smelled when he got home from Ziggys. Unfortunately, my mother passed away earlier this year and I now have the responsibility of taking care of Benji. I must say, I have found no reason to make any changes in his grooming services. Elena and her staff at Ziggys are courteous, friendly and do great work. The location is convenient, their prices are fair and there is always free parking at their shop. Benji is kind of shy and stubborn when he is away from the house. When I take him to the Vet, he pulls away and tries to get back to the car. When I bring him to Ziggys, just the opposite. PLEASE READ THE ONE STARS BEFORE BRINGING YOUR DOG TO THIS PLACE. OUR PRIZE PAPILLION JUST DIED HERE WHILE BEING GROOMED. Yesterday our dog died while under the care of this place. My wife brought our 15 yr old Papillion & mini Australian Shepard in for grooming. Hours later she gets a call that our Papillion IS DEAD. I'm not making an accusation that it was their fault since I was not there and he was 15yrs old. That said, he was in great shape with no signs of illness. He was not sick. In fact the day before he went on a 45 min walk and he was fine. That morning he was running around in the house with the other dog and everything was fine. He was eating fine and barking while playing with the other dog that morning. He had been to previous dog groomers with no problems. So, did Ziggys do something to cause his death? Who knows, I was not there, but he was doing great before he was dropped off. The owner said our dog was being hand blow dried when he had a seizure and then died. But again, he was 15yrs old so I guess it is possible that it happened the way she said. Again, who knows but I suggest you read the other 1 STAR COMMENTS before you risk bringing your dog here. I'd go elsewhere. Putting all that aside that our dog is dead, she ruined the trim on the Aussie, shaving her down to 1/4" even though my wife showed her a photo of her previous grooming. In fact you can see her skin and there was some bleeding nicks on her stomach. The Aussie looks ridiculous so maybe that means that they have no clue what they are doing? Then as my wife was leaving with our dead dog, she ask her not to leave a bad internet comment AND said the Aussie was overweight and should be exercised more. Only an idiot would say something negative after what happened. And then she said to my wife that she knew the Papillon was dead because it smelled ? What ? A dog that just died does not smell until decay sets in, which is some time - not within an hour or so. SO THIS LADY WHO OWNS THIS PLACE IS COMPLETELY CRAZY. My kids grew up with this little dog and was a member of our family. We all took him up on a vacant hill near Sausalito and buried him that night. read more
