Highly recommend! I was skeptical getting insurance for my 15 y/o kitty. I figured the monthly payments would work out to be a HSA type situation and pay for themselves that way. I have been surprised and delighted to find that all of my babies visits have been atleast partially covered so far! Everything is "pre-existing." Customer service is difficult to understand until you're speaking with a rep to cancel the policy. What a waste of money. I appealed some decisions, which took over a month for a response -- and it was coincidentally after I'd finally sent an email asking for status. I thought it was going to be decent since it was offered through my work, but it wasn't. I went to the BBB website to enter a review, and it turns out all the bad reviews are within the last year. NOT 7 - 10 days.... a supervisor told me checks often do not arrive.... ??? they have to reissue them and there is no way of tracking them. Turns out my plan does not treat injuries? But I am paying for "Wellness checks?" So how do they define wellness checks if its not "injury?" I am really disappointed in this agency. They seem great on the surface but major problems. You also cannot just change plans you have to completely close your current account and then create a new one with a 14 day gap. We have paid for Premium Spot pet insurance for a year now since we got our puppy. We thought it would be helpful for spaying and various problems puppies usually have. After a year of payint $60/month I now have enough data to say confidently that Spot reimburses us less than 30% on all of our vet bills. To be specific on $1060.00 of vet bills Spot has reimbursed us exactly $325.00. 12 months at $60 cost us $720. We have saved exactly nothing by using Spot so I tried to cancel today over the phone. I was honest and told the representative that I did not feel that it was worth what we were paying. Then I was put on hold for nearly 20 minutes while the representative checked back with me saying there was nobody available to cancel my policy. I then asked the rep if she could cancel my policy if we no longer had the pet and she said yes that was all she was authorized to do. So I told her my pet ran away and she finally canceled my policy within 30 seconds. If I were to be able to go back in time I would have purchased the very cheapest policy or none at all. read more

I would give SPOT no stars at all. Their website doesn't work - impossible to upload records for claims. I ened up calling them and was told to just email the reacords, I did so. I've been a great member for 2 years and have always paid my premiums on time, but the moment I submitted a major claim, they completely failed me. I submitted an authentic, direct invoice from my vet. Because the bill had split charges--an initial charge and an additional charge from the same visit making up the rest of the total--Spot's claims department lazily called the vet, only verified the initial amount, and immediately slapped a "Determination of Fraud" on my account and canceled my policy. They didn't even bother to look at the final, itemized ledger or reconcile the total amount. Instead of doing a basic billing reconciliation, their immediate default is to call their paying customers liars. I have provided the complete ledger and bank statements proving the full cleared payment. They took forever to process my claim, kept asking for more documents, and never contacted my vet directly for anything. If you don't spoon-feed them every detail, your claim gets rejected. I switched from Healthy Paws because of Spot's advertising, but Healthy Paws was 100× better. They actually contact the vet, help you when something's missing, and process claims fast. I initially thought Spot Pet Insurance was a great alternative to pet insurance I had with my previous employer. Spot charged $134 per month for the same policy I subsequently got with Nationwide Pet Insurance. Nationwide is approximately $35-$36 dollars. I felt like I was robbed by Spot! What a crying shame! Spot took forever to reimburse me for claims, where Nationwide took just a few days. The other issue was when I cancelled the policy, the agent told me that I would see a full refund since I cancelled it on the billing date... How about I had to wait on the line for nearly an hour because the initial agent could not give me any details other than word-salad (a bunch of generalities). How about I would never have seen the full refunded amount because they did an adjusted billing which basically pro-rated my monthly fee for 1 day. Why did I have to stay on the phone for an hour and neither the original agent nor the manager/supervisor could JUST SAY THAT?! Run to Nationwide Pet Insurance, people! I paid for the Gold plan that was supposed to include a dental cleaning. Dental cleaning was estimated over $1000, but the Spot dental coverage is only $100. I also recently submitted my first claim for an emergency vet bill. It's been over 10 days since I submitted the claim and they haven't even looked at it yet. The app and website also glitch when you upload of photos or documents. I kept getting an error #500 Message. Super frustrating. Healthy Paws was a much better pet insurance. read more

One of the worst pet insurance experiences I've ever had. My claim was submitted the same day my dog was treated, and Spot Pet Insurance waited over a week just to contact my veterinarian. Their website says claims are processed within 2-7 business days, but in reality, it takes 2-4 weeks or even longer. They denied my claim saying there was "no SOP" (soap notes), even though not every veterinarian provides that kind of documentation. Instead of helping me resolve the issue, they just rejected the claim. Their customer service calls don't help at all -- the representatives are from overseas, very hard to understand, and they seem unfamiliar with their own policies. They also advertise Amazon gift cards and other promotions that never arrive. The whole process felt misleading, slow, and poorly managed. I just switched over to Spot Pet Insurance in January. My dog had an ear infection (first one since owning him in 9 years) and was seen in urgent care. I submitted the claim and it was denied stating his first ear infection was a pre existing condition due to him receiving an allergy injection in 2024. My dog has never been diagnosed as having allergies but now this insurance company states allergies and ear infections are the same and therefore the claim is denied. My dog, Mila, was diagnosed with advanced periodontal disease, which progressed to tooth root damage, infection, and a fractured jaw with involvement of the nasal cavity (oronasal communication). As a result of this condition, she required emergency surgical treatment, including dental extractions, treatment of infection, and stabilization of the jaw. The treating veterinarian, Bremen Animal Hospital LTD, documented that this condition and the procedures performed were medically necessary and required immediate intervention. Without treatment, the condition would have caused ongoing severe pain, inability to eat, and risk of further complications, including systemic infection. I submitted a claim under my Platinum plan with additional wellness coverage for reimbursement of approximately $1,788.00 in veterinary expenses. This claim was denied in full. Based on the policy coverage for accidents and illnesses, this condition and the resulting treatment fall within covered events. The diagnosis was not the result of neglect, and the treatment was not elective or preventative--it was necessary medical intervention for a covered condition. The denial of this claim appears to be inconsistent with the stated terms and intent of the policy. I am requesting a formal review and reversal of the claim denial, with reimbursement of eligible expenses in accordance with the policy. I also request a clear, written explanation citing the specific policy provisions used to justify the denial. Consumers should be aware of how this company handles claims, especially in urgent medical situations where coverage is expected but not honored. read more

They found a chip on her tooth (not a crack) when they were doing a cleaning and didn't do anything about it as it was something that didn't need work. SPOT denied it as a cleaning. UM - that's what she was in for and I paid to have a cleaning done....as well as the coverage for that. I canceled the insurance and will post this all over social media. I just changed to Spot insurance on September and unfortunately my dog had an incident on December. she had a very bad pain in the neck area . After second opinion from a Neurologist we went to surgery process . It's cost $12000 and Spot paid 70% ; the claim went very smoothly. Beware of this insurance! If there is any type of pre-existing condition they will deny any new claim even if the current illness is completely unrelated to the pre-existing condition. My dog almost died from anesthesia and needed medication and monitoring by the vet for 8 hours before he recovered. Spot Pet Insurance tried to state it was from a stomach issue he had months prior. Our vet even explained in the notes that the anesthesia reaction had nothing to do with any prior issues. They will look for any reason not to pay a claim. read more

I took him to our vet, who ran bloodwork and did some tests, deciding that he'd eaten something weird and would be fine (which he was). His breed, Shih Tzu, is prone to ear infections for various reasons. But they denied the whole bill (office visit? flea prevention meds?, etc). And I pay for the higher priced plan! Spot is the absolute WORST for pet insurance. Stay away from this company, it's a scam. I started a policy and then my dog was prescribed medications which should have been covered. Spot kept denying my claims because they said they didn't receive full vet records. I sent them the complete records from my vet multiple times, but they said they lacked "soap notes". My dog only went to the vet for routine vaccinations so the only notes were what vaccines he got and his weight. My vet then added in the "soap notes" they wanted only for them to say that still wasn't correct, but wouldn't explain why. My previous vet and my new vet have no idea what Spot is looking for so it seems this was just a way that they could get out of reimbursing me for my dog's medications. After further review, it seems this is a common practice for Spot Pet Insurance. So I have been paying monthly for a service I have never received. I canceled my pup's policy immediately after realizing I'd been misled. When I purchased the policy, I was told coverage would start the same day -- no one mentioned a 14-day waiting period. I chose Spot Insurance specifically to avoid delays like this. After my pup's treatment on 7/28, I called to appeal the denied claim and was told the waiting period would have ended on 7/29 -- information I was never given in the first place. Because of this, I'm now out $500 in unexpected costs. To make matters worse, the representative never even tried to retain me as a customer. Employees should be better trained to clearly explain policy details so customers can make informed decisions. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Spot Insurance. Compared to other insurances I have used, Spot is a little more expensive but for good reason. I have never been reimbursed within 1 week until getting Spot. On a "longer" delay of getting delayed its never more than 3 weeks compared to another insurance I use for my other dog that takes months to get reimbursed and then I have to fight the denied claim. I have had zero issues with Spot. They have covered all the testing for my dog when finding out what was wrong with her and they did all the work of reaching out to my vet to gather information. If I could recommend them a million times I would. They have SAVED my bank account and have made it such a stress free process. I am so beyond thankful. I appreciate being able to customize my plan. The first year I used the wellness plan and now we just have the accident/illness but I love that I was able to change it. read more
