A disproportionately small percentage of the Hispanic/Mexican population in the United States has…read moreadequate access to health services, which decreases quality of life at both the individual and community levels. In addition, it increases the risk for preventable diseases through insufficient screening and management. Navigating the U.S. healthcare system can be a challenge for any individual. However, the obstacles to healthcare can be more significant for those born outside the U.S. or who do not speak English. Research shows that the relationship between Hispanics and healthcare can often be complex. The good news is that you have options that can make healthcare accessible, minimizing frustration and empowering you to care for yourself and your family. Locally based Hispanic clinics, such as those operated by Clinica Salud y Vida, can provide personalized care and a significantly improved healthcare experience. Clinica Salud y Vida in Houston TX, understands that different people have different needs. The language barrier is one of the biggest obstacles for Hispanic individuals seeking healthcare. But at Clinica Salud y Vida, that is not an issue. Communicating with providers in Spanish can make a difference for many patients and dramatically improve treatment quality. About 80% of Hispanic adults that predominantly speak Spanish would prefer to see a Spanish-speaking provider. And yet, less than 6% of doctors can speak Spanish fluently. And of all health care practitioners and technicians, only 9% are Hispanic. Not only can this cause frustration and discomfort for Hispanic patients, but it can also trigger misunderstandings resulting in incompatible treatments and care with your situation. 44% of U.S. Hispanics report that communication problems are associated with worse health outcomes. Quite often, when a Spanish-speaking family member gets sick, they must bring someone else along to their doctor's appointment. This can complicate matters for the family since two people have to take time off work. Attending a medical center specializing in Spanish-speaking patients gives you independence. There are also the little things that a Hispanic clinic understands. Clinica Salud y Vida realizes that it can be scary and intimidating to walk into a doctor's office without speaking the language. When the receptionist, nurses, and doctor talk in Spanish, that fear fades away. I can confirm this because I come from a family of immigrants and since we got here in 2013, the Clinica Salud y Vida has always been there in times of needs. It is a small health care business that might seem small in the outside, but they are a great blessing for the Hispanic community. Clinica Salud y Vida helps immigrants that are not able to have access to a health care plan of any kind. The service they provide its low cost which a huge percentage of the Hispanic community can afford. The doctors that work in the clinic are well educated and got their degree either here at the United States or back on the country that they are from. They care and are always aiming for the best possible service every day.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at approximately 8:20 a.m., I called UnitedHealthcare to verify that…read moreSalud y Vida Clinic had reversed the improper charges submitted to my insurance. I spoke with Rosa A., who opened Case No. I-57128698. She placed me on hold while she contacted the billing department at Salud y Vida Clinic on my behalf. When Rosa A. returned to the call, she sounded noticeably upset. She informed me that the staff in the clinic's billing department had been very rude and unprofessional toward her during the conversation. I found this especially concerning because she is a representative of my insurance company attempting to resolve a billing issue. This incident further supports my experience with Salud y Vida Clinic. The repeated lack of professionalism and discourteous treatment shown not only to patients but also to insurance representatives demonstrates a pattern of unacceptable customer service. Unfortunately, this has become a never-ending situation. In addition, the clinic appears to have constant employee turnover. They rarely retain the same clerks, nurses, or physicians for any significant period of time. The clinic operates like a revolving door, making it difficult for patients to receive consistent care or communicate effectively with knowledgeable staff. This constant turnover raises serious concerns about the clinic's management and overall quality of service. I respectfully request that the BBB continue to investigate this matter and encourage Salud y Vida Clinic to correct its billing practices, improve its customer service, and ensure that patients and insurance representatives are treated with professionalism and respect.

However, after speaking to the scheduling staff, I think it's time I find somewhere else to go. The lady on the phone was not compassionate or empathetic at all. After expressing my medical concern (large vaginal clots and bleeding) she said there was availability until tomorrow at 11. I asked if that was the soonest and she said that's a full day ahead. This bleeding hadn't just started so even though for her it was a full day ahead, for me it was an new and alarming issue. She even proceeded to say "I don't know what to tell you." After I asked if that was the soonest and she made those remarks she said she had availability today at 3:15. Not sure why that wasn't offered in the first place. We could've avoided the rudeness.

I just had my son in January & when I went in for my post op appt in March I never heard anything about an outstanding bill. I was able to schedule my well woman's visit for June with no issues. I got an email for a $200 statement & I didn't think much of it, was planning on paying at my appt in June because that's what I always did. When I called to confirm my appt Dede said that my appt had been cancelled & she wasn't sure why & that usually I would receive a call before an appt is just cancelled. She transferred me to the billing department & Cynthia answers. She told me she cancelled my appt because I had an outstanding balance & she "didn't know what my intentions were". I thought that was extremely rude because I have NEVER ran from a payment. She said they don't always call to collect payment & that this is their policy. When I asked her who decided this policy she said the doctors. Makes me feel like the doctors don't truly care about the patient's wellbeing, it's all about the money. Pretty disgusting considering I have been a patient for as long as I have with no history of avoiding payments. Needless to say I won't be returning & I suggest you find a physician & staff who truly care about you.
