I grew up thinking that Ventnor, Margate and Longport were the best beach towns on the Jersey coast... what a sheltered boy I was! Spring Lake is a great beach community. I attribute this to the apparent lack of a singles scene...you will not find the MTV "Jersey Shore" types here--only families and couples. The beach is probably one of the cleanest and well maintained in New Jersey. There is a boardwalk but it is conspicuously void of commercial interests (except for the snack bar which is owned and operated by the town). Spring Lake, I hardly knew ye. I grew up here and was here almost every day when I was younger. I finally had the opportunity to go home and what an experience. It made me realized how much I missed the beach, surfing, and even sand. I also had a walk down memory lane. Anyway, Spring Lake is awesome. Nice wide beaches without the Seaside Heights drunk type. The surf here and Mansquan is always top notch and it is nice to see 3Rd Avenue Surf Shop open (where I learned to surf). Just an awesome clean beach. read more

It costs $10 for the day. Not bad for a nice clean beach, some food vendors and a bit more family/ private oriented. No alcohol or any drinks/coolers allowed on the beach. One of my fav beaches anywhere. Covid protocols are intense. Buy beach pass two days ahead online (link on town website) - not available before that and they go quickly. Last time I went done 6 was surfing btw. Zone 2 and 3 are by the pavilion. Then you go to the train station to pick up the pass, by the way they will just scan your phone if you have downloaded the link already. Then they give you a bracelet. Then that gets you want to the beach. I think it's to limit the amount of people but also just to make it so prohibitive that people stay away. It is still full with lots of people around you and funneled into small sections of the beach with the green flags. Lifeguards are constantly blowing a whistle because people try to get out of the green flag zones because there are very crowded. They don't let you have an umbrella on its side, etc,, lots of restrictions for behaviors and equipment so read the website. But because we don't want any of the Hoopla, we really appreciate all the hoops to jump through. It keeps the trash away. The town is gorgeous. There's a really awesome shaded playground overlooking the lake. The Hewitt Wellington is also a nice place to stay and it has a pool overlooking the lake. I wish the downtown was more happening though. But there's a Wawa you can catch subs on the way in. Water can be rough check the seas ahead of time. read more

The beach is clean and not too many people go so you don't have to worry about fighting for a spot to set up your chairs! Its great for day trips. They do have a pavilion with a snack bar for lunch, however the food is a little pricey so I would suggest choosing to bring your own food. Coolers are not allowed on the beach, which may sound like a turn off, its not huge inconvenience. Everyone leaves their coolers on the boardwalk and when its time for lunch, you grab your cooler and head over to the pavilion- which gives you a nice break from the sun (not to mention an actual table). We've never had any trouble with our cooler sitting on the boardwalk and we haven't heard of anyone ever missing items or entire coolers. It is on-street parking which is free however there is a $10 fee for daily beach badges. Beaches are clean and quiet; you really can't ask for much more read more

I went here, expecting an easy day trip, but i was disappointed. It was about a 2 hour drive and we originally drove to Belmar Beach but that was too crowded for our likings during this pandemic. When we arrived at Spring Lake, it was not crowded at all, but when we spoke to the beach tag sales women, she informed us that they were sold out of beach tags. She said we would have to buy them online but we couldn't find anything. Overall, I was very disappointed in the management and organization of this beach. I was so confused because I was standing on the boardwalk looking at empty yards of beach, and still wasn't allowed to purchase a beach tag. What I thought would be an enjoyable day trip, turned into an awful hassle to find a beach to go to. read more

Ok so I'll just get straight to the cons- no food or drinks(disposable cups) on the beach but this is bittersweet because not only is the water clear the beach is really clean. You won't see much diversity on this beach.The admission fee is 10 dollars so for a family of 4 that's already 40 bucks out of your budget friendly idea of going to the beach lol. I enjoyed our time here because it was very peaceful and very quiet. The pool inside the pavilion is reserved for residents only. There is a concession stand but again you have to eat it on the board walk. read more

My family usually goes to the neighboring beach but due to packed crowds and limited parking on a beautiful beach day, we ended up at Spring Lake where parking was easily found. I grew up on the Jersey Shore but Spring Lake wasn't a beach we went to, due to the strict rules on food and coolers. Aside from that, the beach is quiet and clean. However on our visit, we were harassed by a racist and just outright mean beachgoer who verbally attacked my elderly father. I guess she's someone who's not used to seeing people of color on this beach. I'm sure (and hope) she's not representative of the people who go to Spring Lake, but this experience was disappointing, especially in a multiethnic state like NJ. read more

Nice, clean beach. It wasn't crowded on the day that we went, although admittedly it was almost a cloudy day. Certainly try it again.

We've been going to Spring Lake for several decades. First as a family and now as "empty nesters". We love it for its peacefulness, lack of seaside "honky tonk" and the fact that you can't eat or smoke on the beach. 99.9% of our fellow beachgoers are wonderful people! However, our last two visits have had a couple of incidents which prevented me from giving it the full 5 stars. Walking on the boardwalk their were people on bicycles, skateboards, smoking and "vaporing". One young policeman told the "Vapor Man" to stop but he argued it didn't say "No Vaporing" on the website. Although police are walking the beach, there were a number of beach goers playing loud music and eating. We moved to a different spot to avoid the noise so I don't know if anyone approached them. I know Spring Lake hires summer help to patrol the beach and Boardwalk but its apparent that they are young and inexperienced. I would strongly suggest that when an incident like this occurs, the patrolman should call a regular policeman to the scene. Make a "show of force" and I'm sure those problems would vanish quickly. As I said, its such a beautiful beach, I would hate to see a few inconsiderate people ruin it for the 99.9% who play by the rules. By the way, these were not teenagers or young people by any stretch of the imagination--they were just selfish adults. read more

I'm a Jersey Girl, but before last year had never been to Spring Lake. I'm now in love. Spring Lake is a beautiful town with gigantic, architecturally interesting homes. The beach is clean and lovely and generally free of drunk idiots. If you are looking for a beach that's more laid back, this is definitely the place to come. The beach is not very wide, so if you want to sit directly in front of the water, make sure to come early during the summer. read more

This is the "no fun" beach. The 1st review on here is by Richard A. is short and sweet and really sums up everything. The water was always very clean and no red flag warnings when I visited the beach several times recently, but the rest is spot on in his review. In addition to people on this beach who will summon the police for a middle-aged person minding his/her own business and sipping on an alcoholic beverage discreetly (saw the whole thing go down), who has ever heard of you cannot eat your own food or bring your own cooler onto the beach on a hot day? Yep, you read right: the Police can fine you at this beach for eating food, having a cooler on the beach or having cups and containers. Nope, contrary to what another poster said, the smaller bag coolers are not allowed either. Coolers of any size have to be stored along the Boardwalk. You have teenagers reading a book at the entry points along the Boardwalk. I am sure that they are really concerned, if someone walks away with my cooler. I should have asked the person who summoned the police for the guy drinking discreetly to make himself really useful and watch over my cooler on the Boardwalk. Sure, it is allowed for you to bring water on the beach, but you just have no way to keep it cool. The only reason I can see that the town has these rules is that they want you to spend more money on food and drinks at their Pavilion on the beach. There are plenty of clean beaches that do not have all these rules. It is a real pity, because this is a very beautiful beach with fairly easy to find parking relatively close to the beach. Visited Spring Lake last weekend. I have to say that we were horribly disappointed. There was lots of litter and debris and a decaying dead animal which totally wreaked! I'm done with paying the inflated charges of NJ beaches. For the price they charge, the beaches should be immaculate. read more

My first time on the beach with the kids. We came unprepared, with all the bags and two toddlers (our fault), to discover that we need to buy daily badge (10$ per adult - a little bit high compared to other Jersey shore beaches) at one point and then get to the stairs at the other point. Dragging poor kids under the sun back and forward.The guard told us no coolers (actually no food or drink in disposable bottles are allowed). We had a bag with kid's food, so finally he had let us take it. Next, we wanted to be close to the restroom - long walk on the hot sand (hard with crying child). Finally, we had found a spot to enjoy the clean and quiet beach. The beach is great, but the strict policy is hard to the family like us. Having great fun on the beach, from 10am to 1pm, kids definitely need some snacks and water. And we prefer to bring this staff from home rather than going to buy hot dogs or run to the boardwalk to the cooler. Also, need more and closer restrooms. Anyway, look for more info before you get there, that's our lesson. read more

I Came here today for the first time (July 19th - Sunday). It was decently crowded but not obnoxiously so. I arrived a little late for the day, maybe around noon I was looking for parking so it was def prime time but then I found the right street and there was tons of parking and it was right across from the beach. And parking is free. But it is heavily policed around here so if you think maybe it's a spot but aren't sure I would just keep going because I saw a bike cop giving parking tickets when I got there. This beach area is more ritzy with the homes and such surrounding but i like that not all the Jersey beaches are the same. People complain that you can't bring coolers onto the beach, which is true, but you can leave them on the boardwalk, and these are like the big plastic coolers with like wheels and what not. If you bring a small cooler in your bag or even one of those "bag" coolers that keep things frosty they don't care. Throw in a couple of drinks and some snacks if you want. Beach passes are $10 for the day but all jersey beaches are between $5-$10 so may as well spend a couple dollars more just to check it out and see if you like it. Very clean, very family oriented, no screaming teens. Only thing is if you need a bathroom/shower you may have to walk as there are not many. But personally this is a nice beach for me and I would go again. read more

Spent a beautiful day on the beach to celebrate a friend's birthday. Unfortunately, when we got home my car was covered in some dried up brown stuff that must have been coming out of a homeowner's sprinkler system. I did park in front of a home on Atlantic and I did see the sprinklers on, but I have never had this happen. Rust maybe? Safe to drain into the water system? Probably not. Took my husband and me hours the next day to get it off the car and the windows. Will have to have the car detailed. Called to report it to the police even though I thought they would not do anything, and they wouldn't. The officer basically called me a liar and I was most offended. I tried to explain to him that I just wanted to save the next person the aggravation of having their car damaged. Beautiful beach but even though visitors help support the town, I have found it most unfriendly and only go once a year. And that is only because it is one of the closest beaches to my house. This beach is very nice! It's clean, safe looking and more on a peaceful part of NJ! Since its more on a classier part of the area too you won't see a bunch of crazy looking wild rude people. But then again, I've only been here once for a few hours :) my kids and I enjoyed being here- were new and didn't know the area well. We got here late in the day around 5pm, checked out the boardwalk and beach first, it wasn't so crowded, it was a nice warm breezy day so then decided to go ahead and test the water and lay out awhile- not aware of any nearby bathrooms so we changed in the car..lol (done in the most private way possible:) this beach is clean and beautiful all around! I came here because of the Yelp reviews-- and I'm glad I did! This is my fav NJ beach yet :) (btw, we didn't pay anything- we entered the wrong part maybe, it was late, not so crowded and maybe it didn't matter for that day-- by all means I'd pay- this beach is worth it!
