I had limited time, but did make it about 3/4 of the way around the main trail, with stops along the way to take pictures. Wonderful, varied scenery, varied terrain, and VERY scenic!! This old quarry has been "repurposed" and is a great spot to "get away from it all" without going too far. A good-sized lake, a few easy to moderate trails (the rocky lake overlooks are nice!!) and plenty of parking are what you'll find. No, not the best trail markings/maps, but if I figured it out, anyone can!! A great spot to discover in Greene County, I'll be back!!

Shady and cool, in spite of the humid weather, and the best-marked trails I've seen at any of the Metro Parks I've visited so far!! I took the orange and blue trails, and even with my lousy sense of direction, I never got lost once!! Be sure to see the Three Sisters (now only two...) 550 year old white oaks on the orange trail, and the beautiful Orange Osage Tunnel, a real gem. Can't wait to check them both out in the fall!! Worth a visit... A true gem in the Five Rivers crown!!

The water is murky, like you would expect, and the sand is really rough and gritty, again like you would expect for a lake, but it's not slimy. The bathrooms are brand new. There is a ton of green space and plenty of room to spread out from other families. There are picnic shelters and grills. Huge parking lot! Even on the busiest summer holidays, I have never struggled to find parking. There is a really nice fenced in dog area, as well as as a dog section of the beach. If it was closer, we would probably be there a lot this summer as it's a great way to cool down.

There is creek running through several area through the trail, but the time we were here in Autumn, it's mostly dry. Brookville Lake is our home lake. We live 35 minutes away and we own a boat so we spend a lot of…read moretime here. The lake itself is a little more than 5,000 Acres which is then surrounded by about 11,000 Acres of woods and picnic areas. Our main focus is fishing it is what we love to do. We were able to get out fishing about a week ago as the weather had turned nice. In the summer months the lake does get pretty busy with boaters and skiers. The first time this year we got out and caught 19 crappie and one catfish. That lake is full of catfish. We catch enough fish in the lake over the course of the fishing season to feed our family and extended family for the year. You can also find campgrounds here and you can reserve them through the Indiana DNR website. There are also hiking trails through the woods. Plenty to do if you want to get away for a week or a weekend.

went yesterday to try out new nikon camera and having trouble getting it to work went looking for…read morebirds ... heard there were some at brookeville lake but actually found more at white water state park. but no were close or easy to photography. at brookeville lake i saw some big birds up in a next on electric poles .. not sure if there were eagles or osprey. didn't get great pic or look but there were 2 nests. didn't see the cranes or white pelicans here. it was grey cold windy day. so light wasnt ideal.

It's a huge packed area with few trees, borders hard to discern and tightly packed. I would recommend getting a spot on one the little dead ends with trees and not 1,000 people. The area the park has on the lake is not very appealing tbh. The nature center was a good diversion and they also had movie night and mid day crafts available at the pavilion. I'd give those a 5*.

My family and I have camped at Cowan Lake State Park twice now and will definitely be back for more…read moreoutdoor adventures. The campsites are a good size and are all in the woods, which we prefer. The bathrooms are super simple, but the women's restrooms are impressively clean. My husband did say that the men's restrooms were pretty much unusable though. I have not used the showers, so I can't speak to those. The price is good and I am happy to support a state park. We also haven't gone down to the lake or used any of the other park amenities yet, but look forward to trying them out. Each campsite has a firing and a picnic table and a paved driveway, perfect for our truck top tent. My only complaint so far is that the last time we stayed, there was a dog who truly barked without ceasing the entire time, with the exception of quiet hours because it was taken inside to sleep. I understand the dogs are allowed in the campground and that they bark, but we weren't able to relax, and the campground wasn't peaceful because the barking was that bad. I do wish there was some sort of policy for this. However, this won't deter us from coming back because I do believe it was a coincidence.
