It always amazes me to discover these "mini-wildernesses" in the middle of/nearby a relatively populated area. So peaceful, well-maintained, and definitely a GREAT resource for the region!! Possum Creek is one of the few that I had not yet visited, so I decided to take advantage of a lazy Sunday afternoon to trek down to Moraine and see this gem for myself. Great for fishing, picnics, hiking (check out the beautiful, well-marked ORANGE trail) and it's even available for overnight camping (groups only??) Did not see a playground, though I'm sure there's one somewhere. Be sure to take your kids to the farm to see the animals and the Education Center, which was closed late Sunday afternoon, but I'm sure is a good resource as well... A bit off the beaten trail (perfect for a quick "escape") but definitely worth a visit!!

Possum Creek is a subtle superstar. It doesn't look to exciting as you get closer to the main…read moreentrance, but once you drive in, Possum Creek has a lot going for it on its 580 acres. From 9.2 miles of walking trails to 4.4 miles of horse trail the trails are diverse: scenic calming. Walk through beautiful prairies, forested areas over streams and huge trees galore, even past some old amusement park remains. Never to hilling or challenging the trails are a great way to explore and enjoy. There are 4 small fishing ponds and then Argonne Lake. Fishing is allowed in all 4 and you don't need a license, plus paddle crafts are permitted on Argonne lake; with h bluegill and bass, plus catfish stocked into the ponds on July 1. There is always something to catch. We even saw a fox while walking to the farm, yes they have a farm onsite too, rabbits, chickens, goats, donkeys, a garden and of course an old farm house with an educational building for farming programs and more. They even have a cool natural playground that blends in with the land, kinda like hobbits it's cool. Campsites to reserve with fire wood (provided by the park services) and a cool fire pit with a grill attached. I believe there are 3 or 4 campsites and they are huge, like 3 tens and 12 people huge. Of course they have picnic tables too. The only downer is no electricity and no showers, all they have our porta potties near the campsite. It really is a gorgeous park, there are also about 4 or 5 shelters to rent. You'll enjoy Possum Creek Metropark, it's great indeed.

It was a very family driven place and there was a lot for everyone. The water area is so good when it's sunny and there's the play area for the kids the shelters for barbecue and picnics and a lot of trails which are pet friendly. The rain dampened our visit but the park in itself was extremely good. DNR facilities were 24/7 they kept a strong vigilance in the camp, which was very comforting. Other than that all service is like fire wood ice was available at short notice.

On…read moreoccasion, I've been able to get friends to take me places or at least go for a drive to get me out. One such drive was to Whitewater State Park. Whitewater State Park was the 16th state park in Indiana and was founded in 1949. It's actually the third largest. It has 200 acre Whitewater Lake along with shoreline hiking, flat-water boating, swimming, fishing, and camping opportunities. It has 9 miles of horseback riding trails. The park area was originally purchased by Union, Fayette, Franklin, and Wayne counties to serve as a memorial for those lost during World War II. Additional activities include picnic areas with shelters (reservations required), interpretive naturalist services, 1 boat launch ramp at Whitewater Lake, bridle trails, cabins, fishing/ice fishing, hiking trails, canoe/paddleboat/rowboat rentals, swimming, and two marinas. Camping includes 236 electric sites, 45 non-electric, and 37 horsemen's primitive sites. There's a camp store, dumping station, and youth tent area. There are five hiking trails - all are considered moderate in difficulty. They range from 1-2.7 miles in length, though at least one also has a short loop. There really isn't a single trail that I'd say is accessible, though there are parts of trails I was able to access. That said, Whitewater in general isn't particularly wheelchair friendly other than in the more truly "public" areas. As an experienced wheelchair user, I doubt I'd head out on these trails alone. Whitewater hosts a variety of events throughout the year. While I wish it was more accessible here, I still consider this one of Indiana's more underappreciated natural gems.

Miamisburg has just spent the last year updating the entire park at Sycamore Trails. It has ungone…read morea major facelift. We have two new car entrances at Maue and the other one Heincke by the pool. The original entrance is now a pedestrian entrance. There is a roughly 2 mile paved path through the park and along Heincke/Maue. The disc golf course was updated. A new pond was added with catch and release fishing available. A beautiful and big new playground was added inside the park. At the top of the park on Maue are brand new tennis, pickleball, and basketball courses. There are also an adult and kid workout area including a timed 50 yard dash! There are brand new bathrooms inside the park and at the top. There are also two new picnic shelters in the same places. The sledding hill is still accesible. We also have new access to the creek with some new fossils signs coming in the next year. The trails are supposed to be more open and clearer to follow now as well. I cannot wait to make more memories with my family and friends at this beautiful new park!

What a fun find! I've lived in the Dayton area now for nine years and after hearing from many…read morefriends about Magee finally took some time to visit. We were coming mainly for the direct, easy access to the creek. With little ones this was something I needed. We were pleasantly surprised to find a great playground, picnic shelter, and just the best green space. Shade for days, which is perfect for hot days. The creek access is wonderful. Down a little embankment and you are right there. It's fairly shallow with some deeper parts. It's really easy to walk in. I highly recommend Keens or some type of water sandal with gripes. It can be slippery on the rocks. We found minnows, a water snake, and rocks. Didn't really look for much else as the kids were happy just to play in the water. The playground was great after they were done playing in the creek. Being completely shaded made it perfect for the hot afternoon. This is another near play area with various nature things on the outside of the structure and some cool things up in the tree house. They also had two small swing sets.

First trip out to Magee Park. Took my two grandchildren, ages 8 and 5. Very nice. The parking lot…read moreis adequate size. A covered shelter with tables sits off to one side. Great for picnics, etc. To the opposite end of the park, you'll find a large, open, grassy area, perfect for touch football. The playground itself is rather small, but the equipment appears to be in good condition. The big draw for us? The creek! What a great set up! Easy trek to the creek bed. Water seemed relatively clean (but cold!). The kids and I were able to wade around and hunt for minnows and fossils. Definitely the highlight of the park. Drawbacks: 1). Big groups using the shelter might fill up the parking lot fairly quickly. 2). Limited playground equipment. 3). Porta-potty, rather than actual restrooms - only one available (didn't use). Hands down, the creek is the reason to visit. We will definitely be returning. 4 1/2 actual stars.

Nice paved trail(s) along with several spots "off the beaten path" that lead to a stream/creek path. I didn't have a lot of time to explore, but there's a beautiful old barn, ample parking, a nature center, picnic tables, a small "natural" play area, and VERY clean restroom facilities. I loved all the wild flowers along the paved trail. Wonderful neighborhood resource for a quick natural "getaway," or to stay longer and "forget about life for a while..."

CWPD has done an amazing job updating this park. The Kennard Nature Nook side has a great big…read moreparking lot now with a paved path that connects to the trails. The nature playground is great and quite imaginative. It could use maybe a little update or addition since nothing has really changed since it opened. There are bathrooms, which is nice. The trails are marked better now then in the past. I run here pretty frequently and it's improved since I started. There is also a bridge that connects the playground at Grant Trails park. The Normandy entrance is great, but limited parking when school is in session. There is a nice new bridge to connect you to the rest of the park now. The creek is easy to access on that side though. Lots of great creeking opportunities and options. Just all around a great park to explore. CWPD just keeps knocking it out of the park with their improvements.

Wood trails are kept clear but very damp so I'm guessing during…read moresome times of the year the mosquitoes could get a little aggressive. 1.44mi tree walk, there's another open trail that goes around the ball park. Kids playground, dogs playground, entry and parking lot are gravel but plenty of parking. Nice picnic table up on top of wood trail with a lovely view of the park. And they have a book box for the kids. Sophie the dog seemed to have enjoyed it.

I've lived nearby for over 20 years and we recently just found this park. I'm in my 50's but my…read morepug is handicapped (back legs don't work) and my mom is 88 and starting to decline ... so paved trails are of value. This way I can wheel my pug in her stroller and my mom does fine with the easy paved walking area. It's surrounded by trees in some areas so some birds singing ... and we enjoy walking and chatting. We also walk in Smith park in Middletown but it's a sketchier area and some people have made us feel unsafe there. this is just as close but not at all crowded and feel super safe. I was shocked to read the review about a loss dog attacking another dog. We haven't seen anything there that made us feel unsafe.
