My mom was a resident there until her death . The CNA that let my husband and I in her apartment went back and stole jewelry from my mom's dresser. It was a good thing I had done an inventory. Spring Lake did not seal off her room to anyone but her family. When I confronted the Director about the theft, she told me I was upset about my mom's passing. I suggested she look at the log who went in and out of the room. I also told her that I had already notified Santa Rosa police , they took my report seriously. It turned out the CNA that took my Mom's jewelry also stole from others. If you put your parents there , make sure anything of value does not move in with them. Ask them for their policy on what happens when your loved one passes . It's bad enough to have a sudden death of your loved one , you also do not need to have a crime committed against your family . read more

I do not recommend SLV. This is a very expensive community with limited services. It claims to be a non-profit and uses COVID as an excuse to put even more money in their coffers. My in-laws cannot get a ride to the doctor without an unreasonable amount of advance notice and the only activity currently available to them is Bocce ball. They have virus requirements that are senseless. For instance, they will not deliver food so the senior citizens have to go pick it up. If you're looking for a place to retire, go somewhere that offers transportation and other services with a focus on the retirees instead of a focus on making the CEO and Board very wealthy. I moved in last year and have no regrets. Staff are wonderful, as are the residents and the food. The setting and buildings are beautifully designed. In comparison to other faculties, both 'for profit' and "Not for profit" as SLV is, there is no comparison. Several residents fondly call SLV "the Good Ship Lollypop". It is advisable to take a tour and enjoy the flower filled gardens, and the paved pathway that borders the entire campus along the wooded creek. Do allow time for dinner or lunch. Several of my guests at dinner have commented, "this is like a high end New York restaurant." Meanwhile my small but complete and well designed kitchen allows me to prepare meals for myself when I choose to stay home. [Original review] I find the ineptitude, lack of accountability, and discourtesy on the part of management at Spring Lake Village to be appalling and quite concerning. While under the oversight of the Episcopal Church, Spring Lake Village was a wonderful place. I had hoped to live at SLV myself, one day! Since becoming corporately owned and operated some years ago, however, it has BADLY degraded on a number of levels. It's mainly about profit now, not about care for the elderly. Lower wages for workers, increased salaries for management and higher-ups, poor stewardship of financial resources (wasteful spending etc.), raised fees, and a general lack of integrity and responsibility have turned what was once a great place for older people into just another run-of-the-mill money-making enterprise. Although Spring Lake Village is now a mediocre establishment by most measures, it's not just the mediocrity that bothers me: -- During the 2017 fires that swept Santa Rosa, Spring Lake Village couldn't locate my parent - even though my loved one was at home on Spring Lake Village property the entire time - the last to be accounted for when evacuations threatened. Unbelievable. After recovering from a recent stay at a local hospital, Spring Lake Village didn't seem to want to take my loved one back, despite SLV's contractual obligation to do so. Once I reminded Spring Lake Village of this legal requirement, they finally relented - but that's what it took. My parent has generally received adequate care at SLV, but has given reports on multiple occasions of being subjected to unkind treatment at Spring Lake Village after objecting to low quality service (I'm often told: "Please don't complain to anyone ... they'll just take it out on me.") -- While most workers and servers at SLV generally do a good job, dealing with management can be an off-putting experience, very unpleasant, even a nightmare. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, but neither hand can be counted on to keep it's word and do what it says it will do. "Pass the buck" is what I've gotten, instead of a simple apologetic admission that Spring Lake Village messed up and will try to do better in the future. Do NOT send your parent or loved one to Spring Lake Village. In my experience, Spring Lake Village has gone from bad to worse in recent years, and is showing no sign of concern for much needed improvement. I strongly suggest you seek elder care elsewhere. == [My response to the reply from Kate V. on 9/3/21] All I know is that shortly after the name change at Spring Lake Village (removal of the word "Episcopal" from the title about 10 years ago) things went dramatically downhill in just about every way. The overall mood at Spring Lake Village changed from wonderfully spirited and loving to profit-centered and uncaring, elaborate and costly remodeling was undertaken, noisy and disruptive building projects were engaged, and fees were sharply and unnecessarily raised. Coinidence? Perhaps ... but I think not. The growing level of incompetence and unprofessionalism I've encountered with Spring Lake Village management these last 10 years or so is alarming. we have notified you multiple times with no result. the salon staff are sneaking in to assisted living to see my cousin despite our request to stay away. she was charged over posted prices for years. the staff also took it upon themselves to suggest $300 worth of vitamins and told her to drink tea for her uti instead of going to the doctor- you have major issues read more

Just wish more people would review retirement communities. I've now cared for four different elderly relatives as they have aged, so I've seen a number of different facilities and gotten a good look at quality of care, condition of facilities, grounds, quality of food, service, and most of all, "heart". I believe that because SLV was founded under the wings of the Episcopal church, it has more "heart" than the for-profit facilities I've seen. There is an underlying sense of caring that pervades the life of the community. If I were to rate the four or five different facilities I've investigated, I would put SLV at the top of the list. First of all, food at most retirement communities is mediocre to slightly-above-mediocre. Food is one place such communities often try to save money and cut corners: service, ingredients, skill in planning and preparation, but SLV offers a wonderful array of choice, fresh ingredients, skillful preparation, and, OK, the service leaves a bit to be desired but food choice are healthful and delicious. Care from the nursing staff in both assisted living and skilled nursing is careful and compassionate. Staff members make residents feel like valued members of the community. Cleanliness and condition of the facility and its beautiful grounds are very good...like living in a park (Anadel State Park is just across the street from SLV). As one other reviewer said, he was "young" and not yet ready to move, but SLV is at the top of his list when he reaches the age to move. I only hope that the move towards non-profit status doesn't take over SLV (though it probably will) and that it remains the lovely, comfortable, classy facility that it is. read more

A family friend went to Spring Lake Village after a short hospital stay. As it became closer to time to go home, they found one reason after another to "keep" her. It was well over a month before she was finally released to go home and was miserable while decisions were being made for her. I have read that it is one of the more expensive places. While the nurses and attendees were very nice, it seemed that management wanted her to stay whether or not she approved. Do your homework before checking in to this place! read more

This is an amazing place. The skilled nursing are is very nice as well. Great nursing and great over all staff. The food is amazing as well. It has been voted one of the best places to work for over 6 years now and I can surely tell. The employees all seem happy and cheerful and always glad to help. I have seen a lot of Skilled nursing facilities and this one is by far the cleanest and the best! read more

After bi-lateral total knee replacement, moved to Spring Lake Village on Montgomery Drive for a few days of Physical and occupational therapy. Doing GREAT and a local celebrity since none of the staff or others have ever dealt with a double at the same time. Cell phones DO NOT work there for some reason, but can take calls on the house phone at . We are extremely pleased with the facility and very happy we chose this place. It is bright, cheerful, clean and friendly. All the staff is very attentive, pleasant, responsive and helpful. Food is excellent . read more

Being somewhat familiar with the Saratoga and San Jose communities mentioned by KR, I agree that Spring Lake Village is a place to consider. Like KR, I am "young" and am not ready to move now; however, Spring Lake Village is on my top tier list. Also, from what I had read, I am thankful for the response by the staff to help assure the safety of the residents during the October 2017 wildfires. read more

I don't see how other retirement communities (anywhere in US) can compete with a place like this. I am very familiar with two others, expensive places in Saratoga and San Jose foothills. This place is so much nicer, in quality of facilities, kindness and awareness and availability of staff, size of facility, cost, etc. I would love to live here now! (I am nowhere near retirement age, so they won't take me yet. :-)) read more
