Clearwater at Sonoma Hills targets families in crisis and withholds critical information until it's too late. I have filed a formal complaint with the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD). Sales Director H***** Sch**** pressured us by saying they only had one room left, and "I needed to grab it", then quickly collected our $8,455 from me with a written promise the deposit was "100% refundable." The place was always empty, which should have been my first clue, despite reading about some other bad experiences I naivly gave over my our retirement money under duress. She never once mentioned a refund timeline or any conditions before, during, or at the time of payment, despite having SO many opportunities, which is misleading at best, if not downright unscrupulous and intentional omission AKA LYING! My mother has Alzheimer's. Ho***e had met her in person multiple times before taking our money. When a nurse conducted a formal assessment, it was immediately clear my mother needed memory care, not assisted living ...something any industry professional who had spent time with her should have known. We were steered into a placement that was never appropriate just so they could hold a large sum of cash and likely reinvest it and make money off our backs, all while we were in CRISIS. Only after I requested the refund did H****E reveal for the first time that processing takes "3-4 weeks, sometimes more" !!! WTF Every interaction following was dismissive and COLD. A follow-up went completely unanswered. I was forced to file a credit card dispute because I was accruing interest on $8,500 for TWO BILLING CYCLES while paying out of pocket for emergency in-home care. Clearwater's response? MY dispute will delay the refund even further! Blame shift much?! This is a pattern. Large deposits collected from desperate families. Material information deliberately withheld. Zero urgency when it's time to give the money back...sound familiar? If you are considering this facility, look up their inspection history at ccld.dss.ca.gov (license #496803860) and do not pay a deposit without getting every condition and timeline in writing first. The staff is top notch @ Mirabel, Dee and Lori are so easy to work with in getting things for my dads needs and intake manager Josh goes way beyond the call of duty to insure the safety of the residents there. They were all just evacuated from the recent lightening fire to house in Cloverdale, and i needed to bring Josh some shipped items and found that he not only escorted his people there, but moved into the temp housing to make sure everyone was comfortable and didn't feel misplaced. Dad has dementia and was convinced he was on a cruise while @ Mirabel, and always let us know how happy he was there. Kudos to Mirabel! When allowed Mirabel brings in an assortment of musical entertainment for the people to enjoy.

On Friday, June 14, 2024, I toured Serenity Villa with a client of mine, a potential resident. We were shown two available private rooms and agreed to take one and move in on June 20. On 6/18 12:39 PM Maritza (staff) texted to say the room was no longer available for my client. She said Allie could go into a shared space though. I was on vacation so didn't see this text. On 6/19 at 9:59 AM, I called the owner of Serenity Villa, Aida, who said they chose to phone a person who had toured a couple of months ago to let them know someone expressed interest in the room. Apparently that motivated that old lead to hustle over and put down a deposit. The room was given to that person instead of my client! I expressed to Aida that we were very disappointed to lose the room as the caregiver for the potential resident was leaving the state on 6/22 for a two-month period and we were now in a bind to find a new place with one day's notice. She said, "This is a business." I told her I thought reneging was very unprofessional and unethical. She didn't seem to care. She offered a shared room, but my client has not shared a room since college and said no thank you. I suggested to Aida that perhaps the person they gave the private room to could take the shared room instead for two months, and then after my client left, take the private room. Aida was not interested in this arrangement. I was angry at this switch and commented to Aida that she had not even apologized for the change. She didn't think she needed to since "this is a business" and they can do what they wish. FYI: According to the licensing agency for care homes, Community Care Licensing, this building has five type A citations. An "A" citation "is for the most serious type of violation in which there is an immediate risk to the health, safety of personal rights of those in care."

Over the last few months, I have researched a variety of care/living options for my uncle,…read moreincluding at-home care and senior community living. I was immediately impressed when I researched Springfield Place in Petaluma, CA. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and to provide any help needed before, during, and after the decision-making process of whether or not this was the right location for my uncle. Once he decided that this was where he wanted to be, the staff helped in every way possible to get him moved in and set up in his new home, including personally going to Kaiser's medical offices when we were having trouble getting some of the required forms signed by the doctor. Without their help to navigate Kaiser's medical system, I think we would still be waiting on those forms long after I had to return home on the East Coast. The staff had excellent covid protocols in place that made me feel like my uncle would be as safe as possible. They had a great set of documents to help me organize what was needed to move him in quickly and efficiently. Their facilities staff was helpful in hanging a few pictures that I couldn't manage. The front desk had a welcome sign up for my uncle during his entire first week there. The other residents made a point to come introduce themselves and to say hello. There was a notable mix of residents who were at various stages of care and mobility, and they were often out in the common areas talking and socializing with each other. There was a guest room that I was able to use for a couple of days to help make the transition a bit easier. The food was surprisingly good, and I'm rather picky. I was expecting cafeteria level food and was delighted to find that the food was restaurant quality....and better than a few restaurants that I went to during my stay. They have a variety of rooms layouts available, all at different costs. We went with a large studio with a large den, and we used the den as a bedroom. This apartment that we chose doesn't have a window in the bedroom/den, but it does have two large French doors that open into the living space making it feel bigger and brighter. We were able to fit a lot more furniture and "stuff" than I had imagined due to the extra closets by the bathroom. I know a lot of people are concerned about the costs of senior care facilities, but at Springfield Place we got the apartment, the assistance of the facilities team, the nursing staff, laundry assistance for towels and sheets, the front desk staff, three meals per day, heating, electricity, and community activities all within the price of the monthly payment. When you add all of that up and then add on top of it the fact that you know that your loved one is not alone and that there is someone always around to make sure they are okay.... the price seems more than reasonable. The price does increase a little depending upon the level of care that your loved one needs, but even that seems reasonable, especially after seeing how well the staff cares for those who need additional levels of care. All in all, I am very happy with the experience and am really glad that we found Springfield Place. Plus, as my uncle says "It's close to the golf course!"

Also, if you're happy eating just breakfast and lunch, your monthly allotment will cover that. Dinner on its own uses up the daily points but is abundant, varied, and you can also fill up a container with your favorite things to take home. Why there are not more 5 star review of this amazing, 40 years old place, is really hard to understand. If in doubt, come check it out! :o) That said, there is usually a fairly lengthy waiting list.

It was a good thing I had done an inventory. Spring Lake did not seal off her room to anyone but her family. When I confronted the Director about the theft, she told me I was upset about my mom's passing. I suggested she look at the log who went in and out of the room. I also told her that I had already notified Santa Rosa police , they took my report seriously. It turned out the CNA that took my Mom's jewelry also stole from others. If you put your parents there , make sure anything of value does not move in with them. Ask them for their policy on what happens when your loved one passes . It's bad enough to have a sudden death of your loved one , you also do not need to have a crime committed against your family .

I am an old Quaker and AFSC employer and am way disappointed by the above concerns.
