Seeing that they were having a big holiday sale, we u-turned and checked them out. We are very stubborn about the quality of items we buy, and furniture to our liking we have trouble finding - case in point we had been using hand-me-downs for our bedroom sets for thirty years because we never discovered anything that we liked in quality, style, and at a reasonable price. As soon as we walked into the first floor of Blue Ridge Furniture we recognized the quality and beauty and artisanship of the dining tables and chairs and desks; these items are meticulously crafted at Blue Ridge's workshop a couple of miles away. Every item is made from beautifully grained hardwoods and stylishly designed to blend traditional and contemporary. We went upstairs and voila, there it was, the bedroom set style we had been looking for those thirty years. We discussed customizing dimensions with Sidney, the owner, who we immediately appreciated as a sincere and honest businessman and a brilliant craftsman. Although not inexpensive, I cannot say that what we purchased was expensive considering the superior quality and design, and we have been more than satisfied. A year or so after our original purchase I ordered a fully custom designed bed table of the same style to fit a narrow space, and Sidney and I corresponded by email on the design. Tom, one of the owners said they can custom build to order. I drew up a description in PowerPoint and emailed it to the store. Tom's business partner Sidney called me back and gave us a very reasonable price considering the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship of the construction. It took about 6 weeks for the furniture (coffee table, TV stand and end tables to be built). The build quality is excellent and we couldn't be happier. About 4 months later we went in with a picture of an antique pie safe that we saw online. Again the Blue Ridge shop took the picture with our preferred dimensions and custom built it exactly as we had requested. They build furniture that will last for generations and were really interested in making sure the customer is happy.

About a year or so ago I was recommended to go there and was glad I did. Went there on a Sunday…read moremorning and was given great help. Ordered the mattress and got it a week later and saw that it was made locally and even had the date it was made which is nice to know that it wasn't sitting around a warehouse for months. They even gave us a Veteran's discount which was very nice as well. I have to get another mattress in the very near future for another room and I WILL be going back there.

I was recommended to check this place out after family of mine purchased some good discounted items…read morefrom here. For those of you who don't know, this place buys out hotels' furniture when they close or more commonly update and they get the furniture at extremely discounted rate to which they pass along the savings to their customers. I purchased a king sized bed along with some other furniture pieces. I have now had the bed for four months and absolutely love it. The price...well, you just can't beat it ($122 for mattress and box springs). I paid $60 to have to delivered to Manayunk along with a couple chairs and some bedside tables. The delivery was one guy with a U-haul type truck and together we moved the items upstairs to my apartment. In my book this was a slam duck; definitely a place I would go to again. So I did. My most recent visit I decided to buy a couch and a sofa table (and have since bought smaller stuff in between). Once again I requested it to be delivered to Philadelphia. This time I was told they won't deliver for purchases less than $300. Now mind you, though they do have items that are more expensive than that (not much though), racking up $300 is not necessarily the easiest thing to do there. As I said, my bed was $122, I got a few chairs around the $55 mark, sofa table was $60, and the couch was only $38 (and amazingly very nice). I told them I would pay for the shipping as I had done before but they said it wasn't worth it. Hmmm.... I have worked retail for many years of my life. If I have a $5 sale or a $500 sale, if a customer is willing to pay all the expenses of the shipping, you ship it! It does not affect your bottom dollar at all (unless you refuse to ship and then it has a negative impact!). In a world where they are so busy it would make a difference and the movers time could be better spent on other things, I may get it. This is not this world. I was willing to pay the cost of gas, the guy or two that would be making the move, and the time it took. If it costs them $50 to pay for the movers and the gas to get there, I'd be more than happy to pay that or more. If it costs them $100, then I'd pay a hundred! Instead, they lost the sale and a repeat customer because in my book, failure to accommodate a customer is a failure in business equals no return business. I was pretty disappointed by this as this was definitely a place that had some good items. Now they missed a sale which doesn't sound like a big deal being the couch was only $38 but am guessing it was so cheap because it has been there for a while. They could have freed up the real estate in the store by finally getting rid of this and displayed newer items better. Missing this sale also means missing future sales because being a furniture store, I think have shipping accommodations is essential. I recommend the following to them: 1) Never turn down a sale because you don't want to ship it. At least make it an option and charge more if you have to. That is okay! Saying we don't ship under a certain amount just sucks especially when your big ticket items are so often under $300. I was not about to spend another $200+ on items just to hit the mark. 2) If shipping is an issue for your company because of manpower, vehicles or whatever, then get set up with a local moving company so you can refer a customer to them. Not shipping should never be an option. Say, "We have recently partnered up with "XYZ" moving company. We can arrange to have them ship the item for you. Would you like to get a quote from them?" and then YOU call them up and get a quote! These small and very easy things keep customers coming back! Despite this irritated complaint, the staff is friendly and the items are decent. There seems to be a high changeover of inventory (some of the less desirable stuff sits for some time). I would highly recommend taking at least one of my recommendations if not both to heart. In today's economy, losing a customer is just not in anyone's best interest.

There are a few buildings and outside space that has tons of merchandise. The furniture is well made and made to last. I am the fortunate construction designer that works with this husband and wife team on a weekly basis in my own business. Mari is the most talented and passionate paint artist I have ever met. She bends over backwards to accommodate the clients and does not know the words, it cannot be done. I bring project after project to her, each project unique in nature and with a hard deadline date attached. From the moment she takes on the project, she does nothing but perform! She makes endless samples for myself and my client, she sends endless pictures and videos keeping me in the loop and assuring I am satisfied every step of the way. To say this woman is dedicated and works hard, is an understatement! The same applies to her husband, who is a gifted furniture maker, and their son, Chris who does all the artwork, drawings and digital work. I called Mark at Magic Sleeper to discuss the top only replacement. Mark was very friendly and encouraging. He assured me the zipper was easy to remove and less expensive than buying the entire lower case. Mailing the zipper in a padded envelope was $8.75. From the day I mailed it to the day our new topper arrived was exactly 2 weeks. The pillow top topper is beautiful and fit PERFECTLY! No issues what-so-ever zipping it back on the the lower half. I then bought a Serta 3" firm memory foam and replaced the original, worn 'egg crate foam'. (had to buy a king size and trim it down which was easy). Can't wait to sleep in it tonight with all our new pieces. Thank you Mark!!
