I am a longtime customer of Springboard Media. Recently I needed a new Macbook. I'm so glad I went to Springboard instead of the Apple Store. The Springboard staff is so well trained and tries so hard to do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. I brought my old Macbook in, they ran diagnostics on it to see if the hard drive was in good shape. Fortunately it is. We were easily able to transfer the data from the old computer to the new one. I was in an out in a hour with a fully functioning already set up Macbook plus my teenage daughter is now thrilled to have my old Macbook which was cleaned off and ready to go. Every once and a while Yelp points you in the direction of exactly what you need. I tried to modify my macbook on my own...HUGE mistake. It is the coolest looking thing you have ever cast your eyes upon, and during the week and a half that it worked everyone that saw it gave me compliments. Then on the return trip from Atlanta everything went wrong and now it doesn't power on. I asked the trusted Yelp community where I should go and they pointed me in the direction of Springboard. I knew the Apple Store would disown me for the after market mods i placed but I still needed it fixed by competent people. So I gave Springboard a call and they said I could come in Sunday and probably be seen with no problem but it will cost $59 to take a look and diagnose the problem. NO PROBLEM! Jump to Sunday and I'm thinking that these guys are just going to kick me out the minute I showed them what I had done. I didn't get the "aggressive" salesperson thing when I walked in...All I got was a couple of Mac guys and girls that wanted to point me in the right direction. I show my creation to the Tech guy in the back and he honestly was intrigued(not pissed) at what I had done. I knew he was pretty good because the guy in front of me wanted DESPERATELY to spend money but the tech gave him an inexpensive alternative that would save the guy time and money. In my book THAT is the definition of customer service. The tech said he would take a look at it and be at most 10 minutes downstairs. I said it took me longer to figure out how to open the thing so that is great. So he takes it downstairs and I mill around the pretty nicely priced refurbed macbooks and all the cool Mac gear that they have until he returns. When he returned in 10 minutes I was already ready to fork over the money necessary to get it fixed. He told me that since I did the work, he wouldn't try to go over it and gave me a step by step way to fixing it...with(WAIT FOR IT)....NO CHARGE. He didn't charge me a single penny and still helped me out more than I could have asked for. If I EVER have to get anything else Mac(becasue I am a MACguy now) I am heading straight to Springboard. They are as good as it gets and know way more than the "genius" at the Apple store. read more

WARNING, this place is totally sketch. I bought a new imac a few years ago from them, and less than 2 weeks later the screen totally died. They had me bring it back in and told me for two weeks that they were 'working on it', finally when I demanded to know what the deal was, they told me to 'just come in and we will give you a new one'. Upon opening the 'new' system, it was obvious from scratches on the screen that this was not new at all - when I took it back they told me since I had paid for the extended warranty I should just contact Apple, that it wasn't their problem! I had a very solid experience with Springboard Media yesterday. I heard they were offering an iPhone trade-in deal for the 4 and 4s so I took my flailing 4 and traded it in for a 5. The cost of the 5 is $199 but I received a $50 discount by trading-in. And when I checked-in on Yelp, I received a check-in offer for $20 off any iPhone case with the purchase of a phone. Cha-ching! Since I was in the market for one of those anyway, this was an unexpected bonus. The process of backing up my phone took some time but store manager Jamie took care of it for me - all of my apps and info were saved and promptly loaded onto my new phone. I am clueless with technology and have lost data in the past when upgrading, so I was very grateful for this and didn't mind the extra time. In the meantime, I perused the iPhone cases and settled on one for twenty-five bucks, which seems to be the low end of the going rate. As Center City is without an Apple Store I feel that Springboard Media is your best bet when in the market for Apple products or care. The store isn't huge or fancy, but it'll most likely have what you're looking for whether it be a new desktop or notebook, iPod or some sort of accessory for any of the previously mentioned. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable & friendly, & I have never found them pushy with their products. Springboard also buys your old Apple computers to refurbish & resell. In return you get store credit to another item you may desire. It doesn't take them long at all to check your product over - you can bring in your old Mac & walk out with a new one bought with credit from said old Mac within an hour. Not too shabby. read more

I was visiting from out of town when my macbook crashed. Yikes! So I found that Springboard was the nearest Apple Service Center and went in. I don't make it a practice to travel with my OS install discs (do you?), and I was pretty sure I needed an OS reinstall. So, even though I'm under warranty, they charged me $100 just to look at the computer. Then they called back to say they'd charge me an extra $150 to reinstall the OS. Just because I didn't have the disc with me! This was all after they led me to believe that the initial $100 fee was to assess the problem, then all parts and labor would be covered. It's a simple OS reinstall and they wanted me to pay a total of $250? So, I lived without my laptop during the conference, and went home and fixed the problem myself quickly. Springboard might leave much to be desired in the customer service department, but I'll assume they are computer geeks who lack social skills and give them the benefit of the doubt. Fact of the matter is, I didn't come to Springboard Media to chat and hang out. I came because my iPod was no longer holding a charge. I pre-registered for service online and when no one responded by email I called to figure out how to get my iPod serviced. The woman on the phone maintained that she did respond to my service request by email (though it was never received by me or my inbox), but said I could bring it in any time. I brought my iPod in and was quoted $59, though it would have been 1/2 that if I were a student. (hint: have your friend with a student ID drop off your equipment) She said the repair might take until the next day, maybe later in the afternoon the next day...almost apologetically, like that was an unreasonable amount of time to wait. Turns out I get a call about 15 minutes later saying my iPod is ready to be picked up. I've got it back now and it's as good as new. Can't really complain about that, now can I? read more

The best apple experience in the philadelphia area. I find everyone helpful...and honest. If they have a product and they don't think it's a good fit for you, they'll say so. The owner is there 5+ days a week, and cares about his business. It's one of the few places where you can trade in your mac to a newer model...as well as buy an older used computer that someone has cleaned up and gotten to a 'like new' condition. I go out of my way to do business with them, rather than the Apple stores in the city...because I feel like a "Number" in an Apple store...and a Person in springboard. read more

A few weeks ago I had a "liquid accident" and found my work-purchased laptop sitting in a pool of water and refusing to boot up. Instead of waiting for an Apple Genius, I ran straight to Springboard. Springboard patiently put up with my freak out, did a rush diagnosis on the laptop and did everything they could to assess the damage. During this time, they (again) patiently put up with constant phone calls from me looking for an update, so I could give my employers a heads up about their machine. Even though I lost the computer, they backed up the hard-drive so I didn't lose any information. About 2 weeks ago, I returned to Springboard, looking for an older stock 2011 Macbook Pro power cord and they had a new one at the store! I had just been to Best Buy and they ill-advised me to purchase a 2013 Macbook cord which didn't click into my computer (different plug-in shape) leaving me $80 poorer and with a dead laptop and a looming research paper deadline. After I asked to purchase the power cord, Springboard volunteered to test my laptop for free to make sure the battery was ok. It wasn't necessary, but I appreciated their attempts to go out of their way to help me and make sure I didn't accidentally purchase a plug if the battery was the issue. Once again, they were friendly, patient and willing to go the extra mile to help me out. read more

After Apple tried to screw me on a repair for my Macbook Pro, I decided to give Springboard Media a try. The staff was pleasant, helpful, and gave me a fair price on my repair, which happened to be about HALF of what Apple wanted to charge. They also gave me a detailed breakdown of the costs - unlike Apple who told me that it was what it was and that was it. I got my laptop back very quickly, in 2 days. The laptop was good as new... in fact, it was BETTER than new seeing as how I seemed to have gotten a brand new battery with my bottom case replacement. Overall, my experience with Springboard was easy, pleasant, and efficient. I'll definitely be going back for all of my Apple sales and service needs. read more

I recently bought a few Nest security cameras and found that Springboard Media was listed as one of their many local installers. I strongly recommend getting an estimate from Springboard Media. They were not the cheapest of the estimates I received, but they weren't the most expensive either. More importantly, what they gave me for the money far exceeded what any other installer (I interviewed many) offered to do. First, two people arrived (they accommodated my work schedule by arriving around 8 in the morning) to examine my house for set-up: Sarah (215-988-7770, ext. 183, though I reach her more easily at sarah@springboardmedia.com) and the electrician Insunn. Both are extremely nice young folks. Sarah created a very professional written proposal (which was more than nearly any of the other installers did), which I immediately accepted based on the great work-to-price ratio. On the promised date, Insunn the electrician arrived on time with a new companion, Greg, the tech-expert, another fine young person. Innus installed a new dedicated outlet in my living room above my front door for the exterior front-door camera, covered it with a plastic box (which I painted the color of my living room wall) so it was not unsightly, took great care to run the wires so they are the least obtrusive and the most aesthetically placed (they do not show at all for two of my three cameras), and installed a weather cover to my outdoor outlet to protect the plug of the side-yard camera. I have never had a weather cover on that outlet, but they included that service for free and even "tightened" my outdoor electrical outlet because it was a little loose. Greg then sat down with me for well over an hour, helping me set up my Nest account on my smartphone and laptop, did troubleshooting with me, and taught me all the features of my Nest cam and how to use them. As a student I purchased my first Mac there and received excellent, personal service and helpful tech support when I had trouble setting it up at home. The sales people were patient and answered all of my questions. I have traded up my mac a few times at Springboard to keep up with the latest technology and they have continued to provide the service I need. Now as a small business owner, Springboard is sensitive to my budget restraints and assist me with putting together packages for products, software, peripherals, and service for my business. As far as independent computer stores go, Springboard Media isn't bad! Usually when I walk in, they say hello and are generally friendly and attentive, which is rare at a computer store. As far as prices, they usually keep it at Apple suggested retail prices, which is more than you can say about Bundy. I can't speak about their repair prices as I haven't needed to have one repaired... The only problem I have is that although they are a repair shop, they don't keep spare parts around. Apple laptops like to lose screws so I'm pretty surprised by this. As far as I'm concerned, any store that services Will Smith senior is fine by me. read more

My old MacBook was so slow, and I had few hardware failures in the past, it was time for a new toy! I've been a customer at Springboard Media since they opened few years ago, and of course I knew they offer trade-ins. I went to the store having a question (or two, probably close to ten), and to check what they might offer me. I left with a new MacBook Air, Apple care protection and some accessories. Sadly, I couldn't trade-in my old MacBook Pro, ( it is considered vintage by Apple, and they don't produce any parts for it, so springboard couldn't accept it), but I took an advantage of the 12 months financing offer they have ( no interest charges if paid within the 12 months). Josh took care of the application, which was easy and fast, all I needed was my ID and a major credit card. Also, Josh helped me in setting up my MacBook. I bring my laptop in for repair, because the cord connected to the power button and logic board got separated while I was replacing the internal DVD drive (stupid me!). I've never been to a computer repair shop before and I've read so many horror stories about how these places charge you an insane amount of money for repairs and try to manipulate you into buying a newer computer. Wary of where in Philly I should go, I come across Springboard Media. I've read so many good reviews about Springboard Media thinking, I'd have a great experience and come away satisfied, but this was not the case. For starters, they charge you an expensive "diagnostic fee" of $102.60! At first I was hesitant to pay such a price, but with how well the staff was treating me and their willingness to accept a 6 year old laptop, I thought it'd be worth it. Oh how wrong I was! After leaving the laptop at their place for three days, I get a call from one of the service techs to inform me that since my laptop is considered "vintage", finding a new logic board to fix it would be difficult to find, is out of warranty and blah blah blah. In my mind I'm thinking, "HOLD ON A MINUTE! There's nothing wrong with the logic board! It's just the actual wire connected to the power button along with the socket, which just came off the logic board!" So I politely ask the service tech guy , "Couldn't you guys just solder it back on the logic board?" Then he replies, "Sorry, we don't do those kinds of repairs." I give a slight pause and with fury building inside of me, I tell him that I'll pick up the laptop. So now I'm left with a working laptop sans an operational power button and $102.60. Why accept a job, knowing they can't repair it in the first place? Why are they listed under "Computer Repair?" Seriously, why? It seems to me like they were just after my money and nothing else. I wish I could give them zero stars, but Yelp wont let me, so instead, I'll give the star to the cute girl with short hair and scarf who greeted me at the front desk. I wanted to ask her out at the time, but with the frustration I was experiencing, I couldn't do it. If you own, or think you may one day want to own a Mac, you should get to know Springboard and their knowledgeable staff. Springboard is an authorized Apple retailer and and repair shop. When my friend's 2 year old son inserted film slides into the D drive, apparently trying out iPhoto, my friend took it to Springboard and they managed to expunge all slides and have it back up working in no time. If I could give zero stars I would. Customer service would seem to be an important part of this particular business. But alas...no. Not only did the first person who answered my call not know if they did iPhone repairs, he then placed me on hold for 7 minutes. I know this because of the handy counter on my phone. If you go to the Apple website, this place is listed as a recommended service site for Apple products, including (and I quote) Mac, iPad and iPhone. So when they finally came to retrieve my call, I heard someone in the background and then they hung up. Good times. I called back, undaunted, because well...you know. I got another guy who said..."oh I tried to pick up your call. I spoke with our service department and they said you should contact Apple." I laughed and told him that's funny because Springboard was recommended by Apple. What a joke. I wouldn't come here if my MacBook was on fire and they had the only extinguisher in the world. Let me first add that the employees were always nice and pleasant. My issue is that they charge $120.00 JUST to diagnose your machine. Then they came back and said it would be $900 to fix. Well OBVIOUSLY I'll just get a new computer at that point! So I asked, can't I use that money toward a credit or something in the store? NOPE! Only to transfer data. Well 1. The employee at the Cherry Hill Apple Store recommended this place. I have a 2010 MacBook with a swollen battery and the Apple Store couldn't fix it because it's so old. before i drove here, i called them to make sure my computer issue was something they could fix. the person on the phone was very knowledgeable. I brought my laptop into the store, paid $109 for a diagnostic test, they called me 3 days later and told me they could replace the battery for me. The $109 diagnostic test gets taken off the battery replacement so it was about $150 for everything. totally worth it. read more

Who needs the Apple Store when there's Springboard Media? Okay, Apple Stores are much more available but let's assume you all reading this live in the Greater Philadelphia area. I was confronted by my first 13-in Macbook Pro problem (lucky me) a few weeks ago. I was stuck with an infinite bootloop on the dreaded grey screen after trying to update the software. The Genius Bar decided to take their failed attempt at a solution and turn it into a failed attempt at selling me some accessory that I didn't need. Quite a "genius" move, Apple. After Yelp led me to Springboard Media, I was immediately faced with fantastic customer service. I met people who were actually 1) happy to help and 2) liked their job. Can't believe it? I know, who are these people?! My pride-and-joy laptop was returned to me good-as-new after a 45-minute consultation. My credit card was hit a little harder than I would have liked but hey, it's made out of plastic. It should be fine... Peace. read more

After my 2008 MacBook died with no warning, I brought it in to Springboard to see if they could repair it. After thorough attempts, the tech guys there weren't able to get it to work because the hard drive completely crashed. Because my Mac was so outdated (and it wasn't compatible with Time Machine), I used flash drives to back up vital information. It wasn't until this catastrophe occurred that I realized how disorganized the data is on flash drives, and how much important info would be lost. The good news for me was that they were able recover 100% of the data! When I realized my computer was not salvageable, I purchased a new one at Springboard and I paid about $400 for the data recovery and transfer. What makes this a 5 star rating is that CHAD (who initially recovered the data) met with me after my purchase and helped me make sure Time Machine was set up properly. He also resolved an issue I was having with iPhoto, and he recommended that I download adwareMedic due to another odd issue I was having. He spent about 45 minutes with me and didn't charge me anything for the session. It's gestures like this that make customers feel great about purchases and customer service experiences. After my experience working with the staff at Springboard (and due to the diligent work of Chad), I highly recommend their products and services to everyone else in Philly. read more

We love Springboard, and have been customers and fans for years. I've bought 3 new and one used computer there, and we're about to buy another humongous new iMac. I love the great deals we've gotten. I love the atmosphere there, and the staff has always been first rate. The whole place is really the embodiment of the Mac approach to life. My only repair was handled inexpensively with a calming bedside manner, and they took my obvious lack of expertise as an opportunity to educate me, rather than a chance to rake me over the coals. I read some of the reviews here, and the the several who had less than fab experiences means that Everett and crew at Springboard need to pay attention to make sure such missteps are always the exception and not the rule. That said, MY personal experiences there and those of all my friends have been just great, for years and years, and I regularly and happily recommend this place to everybody. They even let me play Eagles of Death Metal and early Charles Aznavour at the same time on two different computers on YouTube really loud while I shop! ... and there is dedicated loading zone parking out front, worth its weight in gold! read more

If you live outside PA and are buying a higher end iPad2, it's comes even cheaper than through the Apple store. I would rather visit Springboard than go to an "official" Apple store. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day you visit an Apple store, it is always beyond crowded - mostly with people who just want to play with the display models. Springboard has staff that are just as knowledgeable if not more so than the "geniuses" at Apple. I prefer their accessory selection to that of Apple as well as they stock better variety and quality. Moshi cases and earphones are some of my favorites. I sold my 2007 Macbook here and was pleased with the price I received. You can use the check towards new merchandise or pocket it for a rainy day. The process was hassle-free and they even give you 48 hours before they wipe all the data in case you have an "Oh sh*t!" moment. I like that they provided classes to help better acquaint you with Apple's products and software. Does anyone really understand the purpose of iCloud?! Their repair staff is friendly and you can even get in touch with someone over the phone who can help you with troubleshooting before you lug your computer all the way to the shop. I ended up having to bring my iMac into the shop because of an network connectivity issue after installing Lion and was pleased that their support person helped me to diagnose the problem without charging me a penny. Probably best of all for those who are new to Apple or who are wary of shelling out something like $600 for an iPad, they have pre-owned merchandise and earlier generations in pristine condition for half the price. If you're on their mailing list, they'll send a few emails with updates on classes, sales, and trade-in events but will leave your inbox spam-free. The rewards program is a pretty sweet deal, too. Most tech places certainly don't offer shopping incentives for customers. Rene G. seems pretty irate but if you're looking for repairs on a 6 year old laptop, you're probably better off just getting a new one. This is typically confused as Center City's "Apple Store," which it is not. Still, they have a bright neon apple logo in the window, and for parts and service, have much of what you need. I had a scary experience here once, purchasing a battery for my Mac. The employee opened the wrong one (apparently a big deal with batteries), and wanted to claim I asked him to do so. After we got that straight, all was good. I'd never want to browse here like a typical Apple Store, but I sleep a little better knowing that they're close by and work fast. read more

If you don't know much about computers, Springboard is a great resource for your Mac needs. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and they can service your Mac, or sell you lots of Apple products and accessories. I like this experience much more than the Apple store. That said, if you run into computer issues and need to replace a hard drive or add RAM, you'll find that ordering the parts and doing a little research on line will save you tons of money. As an example, if you want to get your hard drive replaced, Springboard marks up the cost of the hard drive by about 125% and charges an extra chunk of change for the labor (which took me all of 10 minutes). They provide a service which is sorely needed in center city, I just urge you to consider DIY for computer repairs. read more

I love the customer service at Springboard, but this location is definitely a "satellite" store. While it doesn't have the selection of the other location or the Apple store, if I need a basic item or Mac part, I go here. I bought a mac mini last week for my father and was in and out in 5 minutes. The repair service is a mixed bag. They replaced my in warranty iPhone without an appointment in less than 15 minutes, so if you have an in-warranty product, you'll get great service. For older mac laptops, however, they do not offer the flat rate repair option that the Apple Store does. I had a dead MacBook that Springboard would have charged the actual cost for repair.. The Apple Store has a flat rate program that will fix anything wrong with it for $310 (more if it is customer caused damage). They're not a one stop shop for your Apple needs, but for the basics, you can't go wrong. read more

And I waited for more than 10 days nobody told me what's going on, I had to call them to find out my hard drive broke, they wanted to charge me $1200 to recover my data or$700 to replace it!!!!!! Everyone thought this is crazy! So I brought to a place my friend recommended and found out my hard drive is not broken!!!! Only my operating system is corrupted! And the data recovery is only $180. My MacAir, vintage (2010) kept giving me the "Start-up disk full" message, and all I could see jamming things up was a yellow bar called "Other," so I went over to Springboard on 13th St, (although I bought the computer at the 22nd Street store) to see what could be removed. I was told on the phone to expect a 3-day wait, but because I had an Applecare Protection Plan, they would give me a loaner. I got over there within the hour and Mike, the calm and amazing IT guy, came downstairs to check my machine. For the next 45 minutes, while we stood at the counter together, he asked questions about my usage and patiently explained what I could do to save space. We ended up archiving material to my external hard drive and saving about 28 GB! I gulped and asked what the charge was. "Nothing," he smiled. I am constantly wowed and impressed by the technical and interpersonal excellence of these stores (both locations). I recommend it more highly than 5 stars, but that all Yelp gives me! read more

9/10/14 - update. Store owner Everett responded acknowledging service failure and offering incentive. Stay tuned as I'll be in market for larger iPad when released 2015. I may give them another shot. I really wanted to do business here to support an Apple alternative. But my recent experience sends me running back to big box Apple store. The salesperson (Darryl) admitted his inexperience and had to constantly run to someone else for answers. Maybe something was lost in translation but he told me on first visit I could trade in my older Mac (after checking it wasn't the white 2008 version). IAnd Springboard would do data transfer (no charge mentioned). I received an email offering me a $100 incentive. I decided on an "open box" Mac 21.5" sold at $150 discount but 33 days of warranty expired. It had to be shipped from their Exton store, another 5 days wait. When I brought my 2008 silver Mac into store to complete sale, the whole story changed. My Mac was worthless (although they had a complete service record on file - see below), no $100 incentive trade in, no data transfer plus I pay a $20 recycling fee to leave my Mac. Poor Darryl was clearly out of his league and no colleagues backed him up. The female store "manager" was policy rigid; obviously it wasn't the store's fault that I was misled, misinformed and now had to pay for turning in my Mac. (all the smiling and politeness still equaled "FU") So I took my Mac back, Springboard lost a $1200 sale and I bought the same "refurbished" Mac at Apple in Delaware, saving 8% sales tax, getting full Apple warranty and service. This was not my first experience at Springboard but it will be my last. I previously used them to service and clean up the hard drive on my Mac. A $99 service fee and the results were somewhat improved. With less than 50% memory used, I'm sure there was some other problem Springboard failed to diagnose. I didn't complain because I decided it was new computer time anyway. Lesson learned. Get my Mac serviced elsewhere. Buy at Apple. This is hard for me; I like supporting small businesses. But not when they screw up royally. read more

Recommended, hands down! My Macbook pro crashed and although it was under warranty, apple denied all services and gave me an estimated invoice of $1500 for a 2011 machine. Disappointed with the Apple store, I figured I'd use my computer till it died. Well, the day it died I decided to take it into Springboard media. And I picked it up 4 days later, without spending a penny!! I worked with Tyler (absolutely professional and very informative) who was able to get the services covered under apple care! I've gone to Springboard a couple of times, always when I had a computer disaster. First a dead battery, most recently a dead adapter. Power and I just don't get along. I have an older model Mac and Springboard always has the part I need in stock. I was actually a little shocked the first time I went there that they had the right battery for a (at that point) 5-year old computer readily available. And the staff is great. There is never ever a need to look around for what you need since someone is always there to immediately greet you and ask what you need help with. Today I went for my adapter and they had the official Apple models on the floor, but without me even asking the sales associate went to the back to get a third party model to save some money. Very nice of him. So why only three stars? It all comes down to the prices. See, not being able to turn my computer on makes it a bit less convenient to shop online, especially when you really don't have time to wait for shipping. While I'm all for local business, this is a case where online shopping would save a ton of green. My adapter today, after tax, cost $53. I can get similar models online, including ones I know are by good companies and will last for a few years, for about $20 less. That's a huge markup. So while I love Springboard's staff and the store is great, it's definitely a place that I only go to when I need computer stuff ASAP. read more

I recently had the best experience at Springboard. I had had an extensive and stressful day of learning my laptop was not salvageable and having to purchase a new one. After two trips to the Apple Store, one of their employees told me that prior to what another employee had said, I would not be able to transfer my data from my old laptop to my new laptop in store. This was also happening on a late Sunday afternoon with two finals due later this week. Apple sent me here to 1) buy an external hard drive 2) transfer my hard drive to an enclosure. I walked into the store having gotten somewhat lost with a dying iphone as my gps and my stress was at an incredible high due to spending so much money as a student and the uncertainty of completing my finals. Robert and the staff with him were incredibly helpful and albeit supportive. The staff was quick to be patient with me and were beyond thoughtful. Robert helped me understand the transfer process along with helpful information about my new laptop and best back-up practices. All of this was right before closing on a Sunday.
