When I asked for ballpark, they said sounds like your 15 your-old system is too old to fix (coolant is no longer being used, so hard to re-charge system, etc. etc.), so could be $12-15k to replace. That's when I cold-called Action Air, just based on favorable Yelp rating and long time (9+) years in business. The woman I spoke to said they'd be there LATER THAT SAME DAY (Fri) and would keep me posted when he was in the nabe. I got a text at 4 pm saying tech on his way. David showed up within minutes. He was courteous, knowledgeable, efficient ... and honest. Made a quick circuit of our equipment (compressor, air handler, thermostat), and promptly determined it was just a thermostat issue. He went out to his truck and replaced the thermostat, explaining how it worked and giving us the user's manual from the box it came in. While there, he checked our air filters and the compressor, took a couple readings at the compressor and told us everything looked great, and that we should just hose out the grill around the outdoor compressor fan, noting that it was located close to a dryer vent so needed extra attention. Bottom line: This is just what. you want and need in a repair company, particularly when you're talking about equipment you may know very little about so could be at the mercy of dishonest vendors. Can't recommend Action (and David) highly enough. Saved me possibly thousands of $$$.

Then on the 4th of July this year, one of the AC units went out. It was blistering hot and we had a house full of people in to attend a funeral for a family member. I called Kolb in a panic and spoke to Sean. He said they were getting hammered with calls due to the heat, but would do his best to get a tech out as soon as possible. That afternoon Damian came to our home and had our AC up and running in less than an hour. We are so thankful for Kolb's responsiveness. And the quality of their work. He had to install a Lutron Dimmable Switch Starter kit in two bedrooms and instead installed a Lutron product that was a fraction in cost of the better product. He had two other workers with him and spent all of 57 minutes unscrewing the switch plates and screwing in the new product and charged me $450. I had so much going on that morning that it didn't dawn on me that i had gotten ripped off. Its gets better, I called him because he recommended that i purchase the Caseda bridge product (another $129) so I did and if i had any questions i could call him, and he would help me out, so i did just that, I called him. He basically told me i had to make an appointment so that i could pay him for his time to help me trouble shoot my issue. This is NOT the type of person you want to hire. There are many other honest hard working people that do great work.

I contacted him recently to do an upgrade and found him as great to deal with as ever. He is not only very talented, but is an absolute pleasure to work with. He shows up on time (not always the case on the east end of Long Island!) and is not pretentious, e.g., he does not push to have one choose the most expensive option. He is practical, respectful of budget and has a relaxed and easy-going manner while still maintaining the highest level of professionalism. His team is equally as professional but Jim takes a very hands-on approach to his projects. I wouldn't consider using anyone else!
