I waited a year to write this review because--honestly--I wanted to make sure I would still be alive to write it! A little humor, but when you have nearly died, another year means something entirely different. I experienced Cornerstone first as a family member, then as a patient. My mother spent her final days here in December 2024. She was already extremely ill, but the staff cared for her with compassion, tenderness, and dignity. They could not change the outcome, but they made an unbearable goodbye as peaceful as possible. I will always be grateful for how they treated my mom and our family. Less than a year later, I came through those same doors fighting for my own life. A devastating infection had nearly killed me. Before Cornerstone, I underwent three surgeries in three days. My hospitalization ultimately lasted 60 days. I needed extensive wound care and had to learn to walk again. As a Pilates instructor whose livelihood revolves around helping people move, needing help with those very things was humbling beyond words. And I was recovering in the same hospital where I had said goodbye to my mother. That was a lot to carry. The doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff helped me through that vulnerable time. Every nurse who cared for me was outstanding. Their care helped restore both my body and my confidence that there could be a life beyond that hospital bed. My wound care warriors--Monica, Lisa, Kelly, and Makayla--deserve special recognition. These women literally helped save my life. Their skill, dedication, and compassion carried me through one of my hardest battles. Their work did not end with a healing wound. It helped make everything that followed possible. And I want them--and anyone reading this--to know what followed. I am back teaching Pilates and running my studio. I have skied in Park City, Utah, traveled to watch my nephew graduate from Michigan State with honors, and celebrated a best friend's birthday in Chicago. I vacationed with my family in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and even went parasailing! I have traveled to Belize and gone saltwater fishing, floated the Frio River, swum, and hiked to the top of Old Baldy at Garner State Park. A man who had to learn to walk again was skiing, parasailing, and standing at the top of that climb less than a year later. Some of the best moments have been simply being "Uncle Greg." Just this past weekend, I celebrated two of my boys' birthdays at an Astros game and watched them run the bases. A graduation. A birthday. A family vacation. Children you love having the time of their lives. Those may sound like ordinary moments. To me, they are moments I almost did not live to see. When you helped me stand and take those early steps, you were helping me toward all of this. You could not have known where those feet would carry me, but I hope knowing now makes you proud. My faith has deepened. My gratitude has grown. I am saying yes to life in ways I never did before. Cornerstone helped me get back to better than normal--not just through physical recovery, but by helping give me the opportunity to build a fuller, more meaningful life. I am not merely surviving. I am thriving. If you are reading reviews because someone you love needs this care, I understand the fear behind that search. I have been the son beside the bed and the patient in it. From both sides, I experienced care I will never forget. Cornerstone cared for my mother at the end of her life, then helped me find my way back to mine. Cornerstone went beyond our expectations. Everyone we came in contact with was very professional and caring. The people treated my loved one as if he was a part of their family. They were patient and extremely attentive. The people here made my loved one a priority. It is because of their hard work and care that he had the trache collar removed and left breathing on his own. He is a kind, caring and always thinking about his patients. He listens to your concerns, and discuss a treatment plan. Dr Verhuel called me personal to check on me after I had brain surgery. He recognized that I was not able to have a neck adjust even though my neurosurgeon approved the treatment. He saw that it was not helping my headaches. Therefore he came up with a different treatment plan that would treat my migraines. Houston Spine and rehab have technicians who do the massage therapy and I have worked with Andrew and Jess, they are both fabulous. What surprised me was Dr Verhuel also massage patients when the techs are working on other patients. I Appreciate that they value our time as we are all busy. I also saw Dr Ackerman , who is a wonderful Doctor, he is in the Woodlands. However, I stated to him before the procedure (twice )! already have X-rays and MRI images of my back. I made this aware before my injections. There was no need for the injections. The images I already obtained would have shown surgery could be needed. I asked him to look at the imaging which is why l asked for a second consultation. ****He should have told me this before my injections, not after!**** I feel like I just put a $3000 Band-Aid on my L4 L5 vertebrae.
