I ordered an arrangement containing tulips for my girlfriend for valentines day for $120. What Spruce delivered was 12 dying tulips thrown into a rectangular vase. No arrangement or design at all (see photo of the pink tulip "arrangement" right after delivery). I called and they said the price was normally $75 but because it was Valentines day the price was higher. Is that even legal? They are very friendly and nice but i feel ripped off. We are also getting married and judging from their site and store they would be perfect but I can only imagine what stunts they would pull for a wedding. Never again... read more

Instead of going through 1-800-Flowers or another national company that contracts out with independent florists, I figured I might as well just go straight to Yelp and find a local florist. It was my friend's 30th birthday and since I couldn't be there with her, I wanted to send her some really great flowers. After seeing Spruce as one of the top-rated florists (and with Sam P's glowing review!), I decided to give it a go. I was thrilled that I could order online (rather than have to explain to someone what I was looking for) - I ordered my friend white roses in a crate (which looked great on the site). And, honestly, the price wasn't too bad, especially considering how much a crappy bouquet can cost on other websites. Also, they don't have exorbitant shipping and handling fees - delivery is free for most of Manhattan! I ordered weeks in advance and was concerned that the order might get lost. On the day the flowers were supposed to arrive, I called the florist just to confirm that they arrived. Spruce said they had an issue delivering the flowers because she doesn't live at a doorman building. Sad, but I understand that they want to make sure that she is there, though I didn't want to ruin the surprise. I managed to work things out with her husband so that he could get the florist to deliver at a time when he would be home; yay! The next day, Spruce called to confirm that the delivery went through. The geniuses at Spruce have moved up to Chelsea and set up a nice little minimalist shop in the midst of the gay highway on 8th Ave. I'd seen their arrangements all over, but stopped in recently to pick up one of their famous rose crates at the request of a friend. Simple and beautiful, their arrangements show so much creativity and attention to detail and style. I just love them. Then, to top it all off, i was expecting some combination of bitchy-flower queens and Dieter from Sprockets to be working the register, but instead it was the most lovely girl who helped me out with everything I needed. Horrible! I ordered flowers from this company because I liked their contemporary/modern designs but let me just say that is the only thing they have going for them. I placed an order early Wednesday morning at 9am and requested a $200 flower delivery for the same day. When I had not heard from the recipient that night I called them to see if they had delivered them and they said NO... they apologized and told me it didn't get done because they were too busy (That is no excuse when you are running a business, especially when customers rely on timely delivery). Anyways I let it slide and they told me it would get delivered the following day. The next day the flowers were delivered, the recipient sent me a picture of what was received and it was completely the WRONG flower arrangement. I paid $200 and they sent a $150 arrangement. The worst part is that if the recipient had not emailed me a picture I would've never known. Called very upset and all they offered was the difference in money back ($50) that they messed up on... Worst delivery experience ever. On Valentine's Day, my boyfriend spent an obscene amount of money with them to deliver flowers to me at work. They arrived half-dead. I used to work as a florist and know crappy roses when I see them. These were old, several days old. I am okay with cheap bodega flowers, but I expect fresh flowers when we are paying the extra money at a high-end florist. Obviously today, 1 day later, the flowers are falling apart and droopy. They seriously look like they had been sitting for days in the sun at the corner bodega, just in a nice vase and none of that ugly baby's breath. He called that morning, they said they'd resolve it and deliver me new ones that day (but I had to give the old ones back, ok.). Never arrived. By 5:30pm he called, said I was leaving work soon, what's the deal? They said they went out several hours ago, he would call the driver, and call him back. No call back. I finally called at 6:30, being very nice because I know how stressful Valentine's Day at a flower shop is. The guy said he had no idea what I was talking about and had no way of figuring out where my flowers were. Really? We just spent a ridiculous amount of money with you and you can't tell me the status? He said they guarantee office deliveries by 7pm, so although he had no idea what my order was I should probably wait. He made no effort to figure out what my order was, ask someone, anything! Really? I waited past 7:00pm, nothing, so I left. Boyfriend called again, livid. New girl picks up and says they will deliver the flowers that night to my house. 9:30 rolls around, nothing. We call and they are obviously closed. We have a doorman, so it's not like they tried and couldn't reach us. While this florist offers gorgeous, quality arrangements in store when they know you can see the quality before you buy, I would not trust them for delivery. They try to pass off half-dead flowers on you, hoping the sender will not know. I'm not the first reviewer to have this experience. They are incredibly unorganized and think just telling you they will fix it, when they do absolutely nothing, will shut you up. There are plenty of other florists in Manhattan, don't waste your money at a place where they don't value their customer and worse, over-charge and under-deliver. Will be calling for a refund, but considering their terrible customer service, we will probably have to contest the charge with our credit card company. read more

Omar and his team always went above and beyond to make sure that our floral arrangements were perfectly aligned with the vision for our event. They even went so far as to call our venue and make an appointment to spec out the location, solely based on our initial consultation, before we ever gave them the job. This really made a strong impression on us. They were also very flexible with their pricing, especially for a cherry blossom trellis that we wanted erected at our altar. Other florists wanted to charge us an arm and a leg for this piece alone. Spruce gave us a reasonable and fair quote for all arrangements. And Omar and his wife were super nice. If there was a way to give this place ZERO stars, I'd do it. I have stopped in my times before over the past 6 years. I have never been thrilled with what I got, in the way of flowers, but the packaging is nice and the flowers in the crates are cute. Anyone could do it, but they don't... Alas, I keep popping in here. The service is nothing to write home about. Early this year there was one tall, blond guy I found to be very helpful, pretty talented and knew a lot about the flowers, but other than that, I've found the staff to be childish and unprofessional. I've been using Spruce flowers for 5 years now. Their delivery service is great and they have a unique set of arrangements that you can't find anywhere else. I'm a particular fan of their rose crate. Summary up top: They sold me an expensive orchid that was potted incorrectly, causing the plant to nearly die, and lied about how hard it would be to care for in order to make the sale. I went in to Spruce to buy flowers for my girlfriend. I settled on a live orchid, both because I think a live plant is a better gift than cut flowers, and because my family has raised orchids and I was interested to try. I know that orchids can be fussy to care for, so I asked the guy behind the counter if it would be hard to take care of. "No!" he said, "Just water it once a month and leave it in partial light." The plant was expensive, $75, but it was blooming and beautiful so I brought it home. A month later, after the flowers had dropped and I had given it a watering, I noticed the lower leaves were dropping. I did some research, and found a few things: 1) Orchids need to be potted in pots with ventilation holes. This plant was not -- it was in a solid ceramic pot. I had to buy a new pot and new potting mixture. 2) When I repotted it, I found a mixture of potting soil and VERY densely matted moss -- terrible medium for an orchid. 3) Upon repotting, I found that nearly all the roots of the orchid had died because of its improper potting. 4) Orchids need to be watered VERY carefully, usually with a small amount of water once a week. The information the salesman gave me was totally wrong. Now, it's true that I did not know how to care for an orchid before I bought the plant. But I trusted Spruce to pot it correctly, and to give me accurate information about the plant I was buying. Either they don't have the slightest clue how to care for orchids -- this is all Orchid 101 stuff, information that I found in ten minutes on Google -- or they knowingly mispotted the orchid in a pot they thought would be more attractive, and lied about how easy it would be to care for in order to make the sale. Either way, this shop is to be avoided. read more

i wanted to love this place real bad because the arrangements are wonderful -- they have an eye for design. however, service is completely unreliable. may 2018 i ordered flowers for my friend (for her birthday) and, when i didn't get a thank you note from her by the EOD, i contacted the shop i got this email: "The orchids sustained damage in the rain on Saturday morning. My staff member tried to find an orchid of the same quality, but was unsuccessful. Please accept my apologies. I should have had someone contact you about the situation (I was left in the dark as well) to determine whether you would have wanted a substitute for the orchid." no orchids for birthday girl. embarrassing! a year later, decided to use them again since my friend's address was saved on the platform and i thought that was convenient. again, birthday girl doesn't thank me for the flowers by the end of day. did she get them? I had a very unprofessional experience at this store. They never got back to me after I visited and requested a quote. I wanted to order centerpieces, bouquets and some other items for my wedding. I flew from Los Angeles, where I live, to New York, where the wedding is, to speak with florists. I sent multiple follow up emails requesting the quote. Even if my order was too small make it worth their while, they could have sent a one line email to that effect. They just cannot get their act together. They blew an important delivery - even though I placed the order well in advance -- and had no excuse.
