We bought timed ticks online a couple of weeks in advance - with our reciprocal museum membership we got free admission. The history of this place and the artist who created it is fascinating. There is so much to see in each area and around each corner. It's easy to miss stuff. Don't forget to walk around the block to see the exteriors of nearby buildings. They have all been given the "mosaic" treatment! We were here a bit under one hour. Definitely worth a stop!

It's still an active meeting house for the Quaker community, which made the visit feel even more special. The building itself is simple but beautiful, which fits the Quaker philosophy. One side of the meeting house is where worship is still held today, while the other has a small museum-style exhibit about Quaker history, beliefs, and their role in Philadelphia. It isn't huge, but I learned a lot. One of my favorite little touches was the "Find the Fox" activity. It's such a cute idea and made exploring the building a little more interactive. The volunteers and staff were wonderful too. Everyone was welcoming, happy to answer questions, and genuinely excited to share the history. I also appreciated that there was never any pressure to join or convert. It felt like they simply wanted people to learn, which made for a really relaxed and inviting atmosphere. I also have to give a very important shoutout to the air conditioning. We visited on one of the hottest days of the year, and walking inside felt like instant relief. I swear the AC saved our lives. It made it so much easier to slow down, enjoy the exhibits, and spend time looking around instead of rushing back out into the heat. Overall, it's a peaceful little piece of Philadelphia history that's absolutely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy learning about the city's early roots. And if you happen to go on a scorching summer day, the AC is just an added bonus.

Trying to get a peer counselor who can handle someone with extreme trauma is nonexistent. If this sounds like you let me tell you what happened to me. No help led to homelessness. Homelessness led to violent assaults. Which led to brain damage. Which led to sex work. Which led to rape. Which led to hopelessness. Which led to despair. I'm now sure in America I will be homeless for life. My education means NOTHING. I'm worth nothing. Whether or not you can get help seems to depend on several factors. But if you're handicapped in any way you're not going to find much help here. Our society is very superficial and selfish. This extends to every community. Even ours. Some of us could've been saved. Hope is not just a word. And to me it's meaningless. I'm maybe too old to help. I didn't come out in my teens or 20's so my life is expendable. Yet old age is NOT a privilege I have. That's clear to me now. Don't think about moving to the west coast. It's worse. Don't come out in your 30's or later. There're no programs for us. It's us against the world. Better get familiar with self defense and tactical action. We got no allies. Choice: you come out and keep your career and (fake?) friends and family but be depressed. Or come out and find little to no support and watch the world try to bury you alive. Think being depressed is traumatic? You know nothing about trauma yet. They say "it gets better". They lie a lot. This place may help you. Worth trying. People like me had potential. We tried. But we failed to matter. This place is no longer useful in any way for me. Good luck. This is as good as it gets. Second update: Aug, 11, 2021, this place doesn't care about unhoused trans ppl. Or any unhoused people in this community. Unhoused trans women are extremely vulnerable and get killed the most. Because they have no place to hide. Safety is nonexistent. But I was giving out supplies, what I had. I had food, purses, make-up sponges, masks, and razors, I placed them gently off the fence with everything inside each one nice and neat. The rich gays running the place gave me flack for helping the most vulnerable in our community, because it's not the image they want. That's code for "they're not welcome". This place was only cool to me when I was out as a man. Once I came out as transgender my degrees from Temple University didn't save me from homelessness, and neither did the community. If it wasn't for TransWay catering to the trans community, albeit the housed trans community, cuz unhoused ppl don't have access to the internet and enough battery life for Facebook or for online video meetings. I stepped up, cuz no one else in this bougie ass place gives a damn!

It is on the cheaper side for pottery (unless you sign up early for classes at the Fleisher) and they have 3 days of open studio time. I have taken classes with three different teachers and I have enjoyed all of them, though I usually work pretty independently when I am there. Unfortunately I can't speak to the other classes that are offered here because I have never taken any classes other than pottery. However, they offer a wide variety of courses from dance to language to jewelry making (see their website for a full list of courses they offer). They also have some interesting shows in their gallery.

The Thrift has a large variety of sections, including wall art, knick knacks, clothing, and larger pieces of furniture. Like all good thrift stores, they have special tag discount days that award you a greater discount on certain items. Aside from acquiring new stuff, my favorite part is supporting the mission of the Philly AIDS Thrift. I would definitely frequent this shop on the regular if I was local!

Moving to Bucks county I've become a huge thrift store fanatic, as there are many of them within 30…read moremins north or south. Sunday Bfast Rescue is one of the ones that started off kind of shabby and now has expanded and redone the whole place to really compete with the likes of AIDS thrift in South Philly or any thrift store found in the Lower East Side in NYC. They are easy to spot on a corner right next to Coffee Cup Cafe (hit them up for bfast first), there is always plenty of meter parking righ up front. Upon going inside you will find clearly sectioned areas for everything in your home to personal items. I think some thrifts are better known for certain things over others, I personally come here for homegoods and furniture. Most of the things are pretty dated, but in great condition and for excellent prices. This is the kind of place that if you know your way around antiques you could find a few treasures. Aside from homegoods they have plenty of clothes, sporting equipment and curtians etc. The best part is that unlike the larger Impact thrifts around where you have to wait for a special day of the week for a sale, here EVERYDAY they have a sale going on. Depending on the color of the price tag, you can take anywhere from 20-50% off! I personally found a carpet stain removing machine for $5 and tons of party decorations for pennies. They always have very friendly customer service too. Another added bonus is that they take credit cards and all your money helps to fund charity needs. Needless to say, I pop in and out to check out what new things they have, you should too.
