With reservations in hand, we were excited to come here for dinner and we were not disappointed! Service was top notch from start to finish and the atmosphere is cozy, rustic and upscale all at the same time. Food and drink were wonderful....my old fashioned was perfect and our appetizers were terrific. Loved the refreshing watermelon salad and let me assure you there was nothing left of the charcuterie board! My mother-in-law and I both had steak, which had an amazing sauce. My husband had the fish based on the recommendation from the folks at the next table and he loved it. We split a Bailey's creme brulee for dessert and even thought we were stuffed from dinner and didn't think we could eat another bite, we demolished that dessert in no time flat. If you're coming to Lake Placid and want a fine dining experience, make a reservation here. I didn't have a bad meal while in LP, but this was the best one by far.

It seems the way this place is setup is there are only a handful of tables and each reservation is off-set by about 30 minutes. As other review state it is a husband (the chef) and wife (head waitress) duo who head this restaurant inn. I booked the reservation over a month in advance and I'm pretty sure it is necessary if you plan to go. The food- Fantastic and Different. Wild Boar Sausage - this was delicious, possibly the best sausage dish I ever had. This dish was literally bursting with flavor served with red wine sauce and mushrooms. Elk Loin - Delicious and before you ask, no it wasn't gamey! The service - Great personal service from the staff, however sometimes the head waitress let her opinions be known. She made it clear that she wasn't exactly happy with all the out of town business she was getting from their rave reviews. She also made odd comments on what she thought was proper male-female etiquette when the two of us were clearly joking about who was paying the bill. She also made a sarcastic comment saying she couldn't believe that we actually had manners enough for me to let my significant take the seat being held out for her, stating that most couples leave her speechless when the male takes the seat being held out. The service itself was great but some of her comments could have been left out even if she didn't mean anything by it. The price - VERY REASONABLE. Two appetizers, two entrees and a bottle of wine, about $100. The atmosphere - Business Casual? Lodgey clothes here. The place itself literally is set in the living room of the inn, but they take a lot of pride in the restaurant and I would dress the part. Rustic touches abound everywhere, the grounds, which abut the end of Lake Placid, have thoughtful and colorful plantings, hanging flower baskets, old milk cans, wooden skis, Radio Flyer Wagons, and bird houses. We took advantage of the 3 kayaks, and there is also a canoe. We lazed away afternoons on rocking Adirondack chairs, wooden chaises, and enjoyed our home-made meals (there is a refrigerator that guest can store food in, which is a really generous touch) under the twinkling, nighttime lights of the umbrella-d picnic table, The rooms are decorated with much attention to detail, the beds were super comfy, although the Lodge is on the main drag, even with the windows wide open we did not hear a sound from the McDonald's across the street, the sink mounted on an antique Singer Sewing Machine table is cool, the clawfoot mini-tubs are fun, although a little difficult to maneuver in and out from because the shower curtain is attached all the way around. A really good breakfast, prepared mostly by Moses/Red, co-owner with his wife, Nan, is served with panache (and a tableside visit and stand-up comedy from Red), vintage plates, and, wait for it...the New York Times! Both Red and Nan share their thoughts, hiking and swimming hole suggestions and local and national/political gossip. I was looking up possible other hotels and saw the sign for the Haus. I found the number and called and Mr. Michael was amazing and was able to get me and my son a room! It was clean, pretty, and we had everything we needed and loved being right on Main Street. We were able to walk wherever we wanted and after we wanted to stay longer. Yulia the manager moved us to the room across the hall since ours was taken and we wanted to stay longer and ended up in number 10 for the past 2 nights. What bliss! The staff was amazing! They were available easily by text or phone and accommodated us with any need we had! Towels... change of sheets, cleaning. We went back again the following year, last year 2023 and stayed in another suite since the ones we wanted were not available but without fail, we loved everything about our stay! Room had a mini fridge and microwave, small tv, table with chairs, two twin beds and one full/queen bed with a small front porch and picnic table out front. We ran into an issue with our Tv and the staff was very quick to fix the issue. Only knocking a star because of the price ($300+ for one night) and was a little annoying to have to throw away our trash in a dumpster outside, plus the pool was closed on a very hot weekend. The rooms are gorgeous, clean, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful with surrounding mountain vistas and stream. It's conveniently located with just a quick drive to Lake Placid, Keene Valley, and the Cascade xc ski park. Our hosts made us feel so welcome. There's a mini guest kitchen we used to store some of our snacks we brought and many nooks and places to enjoy meals if you don't feel like eating out. We loved our time there and can't wait to continue to visit.

The location is very convenient and you can walk into Norwood's little downtown to the diner. It's a 10 minute drive to Potsdam and 25 minutes to Massena. It's also worth noting that the accommodations come at a very nice value! I would highly recommend staying here and hope to again the next time I need to go up to Potsdam.

We were charmed. PROS - Location location location. The cabins are located right in the center of things, never more than 30-45 min from all mayor hikes. - Cozy and comfortable. Each cabins comes equipped with most basic amenities (coffeemaker, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, silverware and glassware) - Parking is very close to each cabin, so you never have to walk more than a few steps. CONS - Wifi, even though it was offered we had mixed feelings on this. My boyfriends phone picked it up right away, mine never did. This was from our cabin, so perhaps if you were closer to main house it would have been better? I think they need a better wifi connection. - No microwave. I wish I had ask more specific questions. - Not that many hooks in the cabin. We did long winter hikes and needed a way to hang our clothes only to realize that there weren't that many hooks. We improvised by hanging in curtain rods and on the doors. This could be quite helpful. Overall, it was a good value for the money. Wayne is a great host. We never made it to the main cabin so perhaps some of the above would have been different.
