Ethan's is one of my favorite restaurants in Oroville. I really enjoyed their food when they first…read moreopened originally and after their reopen I wasn't too fond of the changes. But recently, their food, service and atmosphere has been wonderful. My favorite items are the Country Fried Steak and Chilaquiles Verde! The Country Fried Steak is huge and the gravy pairs nicely with it. I also love the fries that are seasoned perfectly and not overly salty. Recently I tried the Chilaquiles Verde and I was impressed at the balance of flavors and texture! The green salsa was not too acidic and was very delicious but not too heavy. The service here is great, and they've got some outdoor seating which is great to bring your furry friend along!

Service was quick and we were brought water and our order of iced tea right away. The menu had some good and interesting selections, and my glance gravitated to the Louisiana Hot Chicken Sandwich. You get to select a side so I got Tader Tots. Ed decided to go with the Cuban Sandwich as an all time favorite for him. He will always order it when available. His option for a side were Sweet Potato Fries, for a slight upcharge. When the order arrived something wasn't quite right. Ed looked a bit perplexed as he's never seen a Cuban Sandwidh as delivered, but they do have variations. Hmmmm. My Tader Tots arrived but no sandwich. I was told mine was made wrong and they had to make it again. OK??? So, we sat and sat and waited and frankly the Tader Tots, an abundant amount, were quite good so I just munched on those while waiting for my sandwich. When it arrived the sandwich was huge! The fried chicken stuck out on all sides and difficult to eat. The bun did keep together so no complaints there as that often isn't the case with large sandwiches. It was satisfying enough, except the breading for the chicken was SO SALTY that it overpowered everything. I really was struck by the large amount of salt used. After Ed took some bites of his it became apparent it wasn't a Cuban Sandwich but rather the Cali Chicken Sandwich, confirmed on the bill. So a couple of rather not so good missteps, perhaps by the kitchen? Anyway we had a very filling lunch so just went with it. Besides remaking everything would take time we didn't have to give. Our server was very friendly and pleasant. The restaurant looks like a very nice place with a good menu but still compelled to remove two stars for service mixup on a sandwich and excessive salt on the other. Oh well.

That is what shops there, every location I've ever been to but the Oroville location is the worst. My fiance and I moved to Oroville and this is where we went probably the first 2 months, and we never left there without people staring at us, looking like they wanted to Rob us, grab me, harass me or harass both the bus. It was always a very sketchy place to go but then we found Smart & Final just down the road. When we started chatting with some of the employees at Smart & Final and told them we're so happy to find it, they asked where we had been shopping and when we said food max they basically cocked, and said that you two actually stepped foot in foodmaxx?? They were completely in shock we would go to such a grotesque store with such disgusting patrons. Definitely will never step foot in a FoodMaxx again, as long as that smart and final is in oroville. God about two bags more of groceries for the same type of stuff we got our food max for about 50 to $75 cheaper than FoodMaxx as well

YUCKY! This place is huge with a wide selection of items to choose from. I got the rotisserie chicken for 7.99. I also noticed they had good deals on dry food. Great display of deals! Good fresh selection of fruits and vegetables. They also have a bakery along with wine and beer. Hard alcohol also available. The only issue is there was a couple of homeless out front. This is a constant issue in Oroville. I visit here but I live in Nevada County. I went pretty early and it was not crowded. You do bag your groceries which is not a big deal. I will definitely be back because I can see how much money I can save! Special thanks to MARTIN. He was the cashier and he was very friendly and helpful with a great attitude !!
