Hit and Run
Ken T.

Very interesting atmosphere! I liked all the old wood and the old school coffee house feeling. It was quite a large space, which meant it was a smidge cold, I didn't want to take off my jacket. The staff was very nice, and I really enjoyed my hit and run.

16oz Iced Spygirl Latte (~$8)
Aya E.

Ordered: 16oz Iced Spygirl Latte (~$8): lavender + honey latte Aya's take: I love discovering coffee shops in new cities and found myself at Spyhouse for my morning caffeine fix. I appreciate that this is a Minnesota roaster with a few locations that specializes in sourcing and brewing coffees. The Iced Spygirl Latte was up my alley with the lavender and honey. The espresso was bold and strong, the lavender was palpable in every sip, and the honey gave it that touch of sweetness. The cafe itself was airy, bright, and spacious. Excellent try!

The baristas were lowkey rude to me about my order, and they were out of 3 different items. My black tea was pretty yum and the inside was super cute.

Terrific coffee and great North Loop location. Cool building with a nice vibe and friendly service. I really like it here and strongly recommend for coffee. Giving four stars because of the food. I had a $9 egg bite last week that was very hot (temp not spice) and rubbery as though it had been over microwaved. Next visit I got a parfait (see pic) and noticed a hair in it when I got back to my office. I'll be back, but only for the beverages.

Chocolate Dreamsicle, a cozy mocha with a hint of citrus.

Love this coffee shop in Northloop neighborhood. Every time I pass by, I couldn't resist the cool vibes coming through the window. It's a great spot for mind wandering, people watching or hanging out with a friend. The good thing is you don't have to sacrifice the quality of food and drink in order to have the ambiance. In addition to the classics, I really love the trademark house-crafted. No flavor is over pouring, which keeps me coming back to try everything. So far I've tried the monkey bread, made of brown sugar, cinnamon, bananas, walnuts and chocolate chips. Really delicious! Definitely coming back for more.

Great study/work spot in the heart of Minneapolis, although there are limited outlets (there's one in their outdoor seating too). Tried their jasmine green tea lemonade and it was soo flavorful - absolutely loved!

Orange Vanilla Crush Latte
Amber J.

My boyfriend and I decided to have a coffee date on a sunny Sunday morning, and we decided Spyhouse was the place to go! We have been to a few other locations like the Uptown and Northeast locations, but have never gone to the one in North Loop. I LOVED this location, and I'll let you know why: Coffee: Spyhouse always has fun specialty coffees available, and I would recommend checking their Instagram to see what's available. We saw they had an orange vanilla crush latte available, and we new we needed it ASAP. It tasted fabulous, and mine had the perfect ratio of milk-to-espresso (admittedly Jake's spent "a little less time in the sun" if you know what I mean). Forewarning, if you make it to the bottom of this drink, do not drink it to completion! There were orange zests at the bottom that weren't too pleasant. Ambiance: this Spyhouse location is in a renovated warehouse style building. I thought it was absolutely beautiful. I believe there is another side to the coffee shop with more seating available, but we didn't check it out while we were there. We sat at the main entrance that admittedly was very crowded, but the sunlight and ambiance made it very enjoyable. I personally think the Uptown location is a bit dark inside, and the NE location is even busier, so this will definitely be my preferred location. Service: I didn't speak with the baristas too much, but they did kindly take my order and make my drink perfectly! Parking: this location is on the main drag of North Loop, so expect street parking. I honestly had an easier time finding parking at this location rather than the Uptown and NE location!

This is a great find. Amazing ambiance. My new fav place to hang out downtown. There is a pool table, ample seating and nice music. Very swanky.

Cutest lil matcha.
Kaitlin U.

Just stopped in here after a doctor's appointment and before work on a Monday morning. The interior is dreamy and totally transported me somewhere other than pre-winter dark, cold Minneapolis. It probably helped that I got to pet two sweet dogs while I waited for my matcha. The menu is written on a mirror on the wall, which looks really cool but could prove difficult to read. The name of their matcha latte is "GAME. SET. MATCHA." which is adorable. Staff was crazy kind and honestly I want to be friends with all of them. This stop was a day-changer and helped me start my day off on the right foot. Already thinking about when I can get back to this place. Forgot to say what I ordered - I got a game. set. matcha. with oat milk, which was $6. Would order again. So good.

Lavender latte on a cold day
Carey D.

Really large space! I needed a spot to sit and chill while I waited for my hair appt next door. I was torn on what to order and always appreciate when a barista can give me an educated answer to help me decide. I was the only one in line so I didn't worry about holding people up. It was a bitterly cold day and she suggested the lavender to warm up--perfect! Only one size is available for dining in. For such a large location that was surprising. Love the historic maps and aesthetic on the inside.

Ordered 4 iced lattes, all tasted like milk and no espresso. The baked goods have flys all over them. staff was friendly

Carmella tasted like milk. Matcha latte also tasted like milk, flavoring was not present. Coffee shop itself was cute and had study vibes.

Good coffee, chai, and fresh pastries but a bit overpriced. Service was fast and it was nice and quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

I ordered the French Toast Latte. It was good, but I think I should have gone with one of the seasonal drinks if I was looking for more of that "wow" factor. The veggie momos took about 20 minutes to come out, which seems pretty standard since they're made fresh. The wait didn't feel long at all. They arrived hot, and the filling was delicious mostly cabbage and potato. The portion was generous and filling. I also loved the chili sauce, it had a nice kick without overpowering the dumplings. The cafe itself has such cozy vibes. It looks small from the outside, but there's plenty of seating inside. I also loved the individual task lights above the smaller tables. It's a small detail, but it made the space feel really thoughtful. The only downside is that there isn't much natural light, so the cafe can feel a little dark, especially toward the back. The staff was the biggest disappointment. They weren't rude, but they came across as pretty standoffish, which made the experience feel less welcoming than the space itself. I ordered the light roast coffee and, unfortunately, it was pretty terrible. That said, the menu is huge with lots of different drinks and food options, so I'm sure there's something on it that would be a much better choice. I also didn't try any of the pastries, but they looked absolutely massive and definitely caught my attention. Overall, I really wanted to like this place more. The atmosphere is great and it seems like an excellent spot to work or relax for a while, but the coffee and less than welcoming service left me a little underwhelmed. I'd be willing to give it another shot and try something different from the menu.

Caffetto is the quintessential Minneapolis coffee shop--they've got tasty, reasonably priced drinks…read more(including a robust selection of teas both hot and iced), good hours, and a real fun punk cafe vibe (lots of fun graffiti and vintage pinball machines). I think Caffetto kind of corners a market that no one else has by being open so late--most coffee shops are barely open past noon, and they're open until midnight! I've personally spent many a late night there finishing up work--it's a really cozy atmosphere, and the selection of pinball machines in the basement are the perfect study break activity. The staff are all great and even when there's a line, they get through it quick and are still able to offer great recommendations--while I usually prefer an iced green tea with no ice, I've tried the lattes, cold press, Thai coffee, and hot chocolate and have genuinely never had a bad drink here. The only thing is to make sure you watch your step if you're walking in the basement--even though it has seating and pinball and the bathroom, it's more of an unfinished space with uneven flooring and I personally rolled my ankle and fell there last year haha.

I had a triple decaf almond milk latte that tasted like it was caffeinated to me but didn't give me the buzz I'm so addicted to, that's when you know it's a good decaf. I love the coziness and the unique artwork in Caffetto. I look forward to coming back at an earlier hour to feed my addiction. But it's great to know I have a go to coffee shop for those afternoon cravings where the decaf tastes just as delightful! UPDATE- 2 hours later: there's additional seating and a pinball machine room in the basement, glad I went downstairs to the bathroom.

The miso cortado was delicious and really stood out, and they have a great variety of specialty drinks. The service was also extremely kind and welcoming, which I genuinely appreciated. That said, the space didn't quite live up to the hype. The location felt a little unfinished. Minimal decor, unfinished flooring, and no truly cozy seating made it feel less like a place you'd want to settle into for a while. While they encourage people to linger and don't offer Wi-Fi (which I respect), the ambiance doesn't quite support that intention. It felt more like a quick in-and-out stop, even though that doesn't seem to be their goal. The atmosphere was chill, with vinyl records playing in the background, which was a nice touch. I just wish the overall design and seating matched that relaxed, stay-awhile vibe. Great coffee and kind staff, but the space itself didn't fully align with the experience I was hoping for.

Backstory may have the most beautiful coffee shop interior I've ever been in…read more The second I walked in, I actually laughed because it felt way too gorgeous to be "just" a coffee shop. The soaring industrial ceilings, massive windows pouring in natural light, dark wood shelving, plants everywhere, books, artwork, vintage decor, and incredible lighting somehow make the whole place feel both grand and peaceful. It's the kind of space where you immediately want to cancel your plans and spend the entire afternoon reading, working, or simply existing. Every direction you look feels thoughtfully designed. One thing I couldn't find online beforehand was whether there would be places to plug in my laptop. Thankfully, there are plenty of outlets, making it a fantastic place to work. Even better, despite its size, the atmosphere stays calm and quiet. It never felt loud or chaotic. The drinks were excellent. I tried the Lime Creamsicle Iced Matcha and later ordered a hot matcha, complete with a beautiful heart poured into the milk. I especially appreciated that they use what tasted like genuine, high-quality matcha rather than the overly sweet, filler-heavy mixes that so many coffee shops rely on. You can absolutely taste the difference. I also picked up two pastries: an artichoke and cheese croissant (I think it was Gouda?) and the coffee cake. Both were delicious, but that coffee cake deserves its own paragraph. It was huge, incredibly moist and rich, and served in a large paper liner almost like an oversized cupcake. I'd happily go back just for that. If I had one wish, it would simply be for the menu to match the creativity of the space. The coffee, tea, and espresso selections felt a bit limited considering how unique everything else is. This seems like the perfect place to experiment with fun specialty drinks and elevated touches. Imagine pink peppercorn on a cortado, mint dust on a cappuccino, unique flavored cold foams, rotating seasonal teas, or other creative finishes. The environment practically begs for a menu that's just as imaginative. The staff interaction was fine but didn't really stand out. When I asked whether they recommended the Lime Creamsicle Matcha, the response was basically, "I mean... it tastes like a lime creamsicle." It wasn't unfriendly, just not especially engaging. The prices are definitely on the higher end, but between the stunning atmosphere, quality ingredients, and excellent pastries, I'd happily return. Backstory isn't just somewhere to grab coffee. It's somewhere you want to linger. If you're looking for one of the most beautiful, calming coffee shops in Minneapolis, this belongs at the top of your list.

It was so unreliable that it made getting work done almost impossible, which is a pretty significant downside for a coffee shop.
