I think CNN--or some other major publication--named Isle of Buns as having the best cinnamon rolls, and I can totally see why. I'm a huge cinnamon roll fan, and these are hands down the best I've ever had. Just walking past the shop had my mouth watering--the smell alone was heavenly. All of the cinnamon rolls are made in-house in a small but mighty kitchen. You can see the entire operation behind the counter, with 5-6 people working diligently to get every roll just right. It's impressive to watch. I tried all three types of cinnamon rolls: the original, the caramel, and the caramel pecan. The original was my favorite, but if you're a pecan lover, the caramel pecan is definitely one I'd recommend. And you absolutely cannot forget the puppy dog tail--the end pieces made from cinnamon roll scraps. I bought one and immediately regretted not getting more. Beyond cinnamon rolls, they also offer a variety of other baked goods like cookies and coffee cake, plus a wide selection of coffee drinks. There's plenty of seating inside, and even if there's a line, it moves fairly quickly. I went around 10 a.m. on a Saturday, and it wasn't too busy at all. Within 10-15 minutes, I was checked out and enjoying my first bite of cinnamon roll

Stopped in after landing bc Isles popped up on insta as a must stop and boy it was. Right when we stepped in the friendly staff had us try a tail for free. It was nice and warm with a fluffy cream. I was so pumped to order. I ended up getting the signature cinnamon roll and the caramel roll. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with water stations which was nice. The friendly server cut the slices right in front and put a heaping scoop of the cream on top and we were out the door. Bun was so warm with cinnamon and cream. Def worth a trip when you're in town!

Buns? DIVINE. People? Yell at you for taking a picture of the mixer. You work at a viral spot, people are going to take pictures. I get some people take photos and videos of people without their consent. Trust me, I don't want you in my photo. We come here every time we go to Minneapolis, but I'll think twice next time.

The servers are nice but the pastries are not good. I would not recommend coming here if you're looking for the best cinnamon roll.

Isles Bun is a great coffee shop to go to before or after a walk around Lake of the Isles, or whenever. I've been here twice with different friends and haven't been disappointed. Both times I've had lattes but yesterday my friend and I each got a puppy dog tail. They gave us 1.5 tails for the price of 1 at $2/each! The puppy dog tails are the perfect size if you want a smaller version of a cinnamon roll. The only drawback is that the line can be long. With the colder weather, I expect the line will be shorter. We noticed a lot of people got to-go orders, which will cut down on the time in line and make finding seating easier. Once we were inside, service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to going back, possibly during the week when it's less busy!

My son used to live near this place and he told me to check it out when I was in Minneapolis. From the lines outside the building you'd have to believe this place was special. Well I had the Carmel Pecan Bun and I wasn't that impressed. Tasty but a bit dry. Was impressed with the size and the amount of pecans and carmel, just expected more from the bun part. When I talked to my son he said I screwed up, because the cinnamon rolls are amazing. Guess I'll try that next time!

This place is known for their cinnamon rolls and puppy dog tails (aka cinnamon twists). They also have scones, muffins, cookies and biscotti. We came at a good time because there were only a few people in front of us when we arrived. After we ordered, we saw that the line went out the door! Apparently this place is super popular. There's a good amount of seating inside, but it seems that most people just order to go. I got the caramel sticky bun. It was good, but I've had better. I wouldn't consider waiting in a super long line for it. Baristas take an awful long time to make drinks. I saw one lady get mad because our drinks came before hers and she was waiting longer than we were.

Stopped by here on a friend's recommendation while I was in town. I got there around 11 on a Sunday and ended up waiting outside for about 25 minutes before getting in. Clearly this place is loved by a lot of people. I ordered the cinnamon roll and the daily scone, which happened to be chive and cheese, and both were fantastic. The staff was kind and the vibe inside is simple and relaxed. There is seating for maybe 20-25 people, so it feels cozy without being cramped. I would absolutely stop in again the next time I am in town.

My son dropped a couple cinnamon rolls off as a surprise. He asked for minimum icing, which was appreciated. We thought they were delicious and a great treat.

Ordered: Cinnamon Bun (~$7) Caramel Sticky Bun (~$7) Aya's take: If the delicious smell of cinnamon doesn't guide you here, you will definitely see the long line of people waiting outside. It was around 11am on a Sunday and we waited a little over 40 minutes total. We got lucky because as a fresh batch of buns came out as we were about to order! The Cinnamon Bun was massive, the cream on top was to die for, and the steam alluded to the freshness! The Caramel Sticky Bun was on the sweeter side but was just as soft, warm, and fresh as the Cinnamon Bun. Of the two, I favored the Cinnamon Bun a little more mainly because of the cream on top that just took each bite to the next level. If you're in Minneapolis, definitely swing by!

Phone eats second at Isles Bun & Coffee! This place is sooo good. I'm rarely in uptown, but when I am I always stop here! You really can't choose wrong on the menu. I've lived every item I've ever tried. Recommendations are puppy tails, coffee cake & Carmel/cinnamon rolls. Service is always kind and prompt - this is a hot spot for pastries & it's usually very busy! But trust, it's worth the line. Inside, there's seating, wifi and a nice cafe vibe. Parking can be tricky, there's no parking lot here. In the summer there's a sidewalk patio with umbrellas too, which is nice!

This has been a favorite place of mine for years now but lately the quality just doesn't seem to be the same as it use to. I ended up getting a cinnamon roll to go and was disappointed when I got home to see that it had barely any cinnamon in it. It tasted like white bread with frosting on it for $7 I was pretty bummed out.

That cream on the cinnamon roll though!
    Jon L.

Isles Bun & Coffee is often rated as "Best Cinnamon Roll", and I can understand why there's a line down the block. The real star of the roll was that whipped cream! This isn't your average canned whipped cream and actually had some depth to it! I was a little thrown off by $7 for a medium iced vanilla latte, but look at it like a regular overpriced coffee shop with great baked goods and you'll be fine.

A box of six with a generous cup (yes cup) of frosting!

The miso cortado was delicious and really stood out, and they have a great variety of specialty drinks. The service was also extremely kind and welcoming, which I genuinely appreciated. That said, the space didn't quite live up to the hype. The location felt a little unfinished. Minimal decor, unfinished flooring, and no truly cozy seating made it feel less like a place you'd want to settle into for a while. While they encourage people to linger and don't offer Wi-Fi (which I respect), the ambiance doesn't quite support that intention. It felt more like a quick in-and-out stop, even though that doesn't seem to be their goal. The atmosphere was chill, with vinyl records playing in the background, which was a nice touch. I just wish the overall design and seating matched that relaxed, stay-awhile vibe. Great coffee and kind staff, but the space itself didn't fully align with the experience I was hoping for.

And so were the beans I took home. It's really nice to see a coffee shop that cares about their beans more than syrupy drinks. The shop itself is small but has some nice seating options. One thing to note is that they don't have WiFi so this place isn't really meant for the work from home crowd. I can't wait to get back here

I came in the middle of the day, so there were only a few tables occupied, so it was very calm--balm for these times. The house that the coffee shop is in is beautifully preserved--anyone who has been in a home of this area and era will immediately recognize its characteristics. It feels an awful lot like walking into that house where you spent so much time when you were growing up. From the tile in the bathroom, to the ceiling, to the layout, to the dark wood, it's like walking smack into your childhood safe place. The coffee is absolutely delicious (and the espresso machine pretty as can be). Smooth as silk and without a hint of bitterness, it's just as comforting as the environment and just as pleasant as the wonderful person who served it. Absolutely recommend this place. So when I passed the sign here that said "Warm Scones, Great Chai", I knew I had to try it! It's located kitty-corner from Isles Bun & Coffee, so you can always pick up more pastries from there after if you're not feeling like having a scone. We were the first customers of the day, and the gentleman that opened the door for us was very friendly. I think the interior was very cute, it was very cozy and has a homey vibe, but with seating that looked like it was from a Marie Calendars or Bakers Square. It was super quiet in there, no background music. I was kind of afraid to talk and felt like I should whisper like I was in a library. I got the Uncommon Chai and a chai scone. While the scone was ok, the chai was underwhelming. It just tasted like hot milk with a sprinkle of chai flavors somewhere in there. I could barely taste any cardamom, cinnamon or clove as is common in chai. I would say this is probably a MN interpretation of chai, definitely not authentic. Kind of like my family's former Chinese restaurant in southern MN. Not authentic, but rather a Midwest version of Chinese food. The cafe is in an old house, so this place is not wheelchair accessible from what I could see.

I know firsthand that coffee is king in Panama, so I figured anything inspired by their incredible coffee culture had to be worth trying. I visited Curioso on an early Sunday morning and immediately found it special. Not just for its coffee, but for the ambiance, service, and overall vibe. Curioso is a large, welcoming space that's part coffee bar, part brewery. I was immediately impressed by the variety of entertainment for all ages: arcade games, pool tables, dart boards, a skee-ball machine, board games, and even claw machines. Seating options are abundant, from cozy couches to tables and high-tops. There's a toddler play area and a library filled with books for all ages. The space feels family-friendly and is warm, welcoming community gathering space for all. I noticed flyers for free community events Curioso hosts, like Sunday Morning Yoga and Tuesday Trivia nights. The service was equally warm! The barista, although managing a busy Sunday morning solo, took her time to explain coffee options, highlight weekly specials with her own recommendations, and describe the pastries in partnership with Fruit & Grain and Bagels from St. Paul Bagelry. Oat milk is the standard for all their drinks! (Which I loved) We tried two speciality lattes: the "Butter Luck Next Year" (iced) and the "Blue Ribbon Peach Pie" (hot). Both were exceptional! Strong, robust, and delicious. Alongside, we also enjoyed an "Everything" handpie and a "Blueberry Lemon Curd" pop tart. Both pastries were out of this world delicious! I loooooved this pairing.
