Squalo is a great dive shop! I had seen their social media posts and decided to try them out for a diving class. After looking at the website, calling the shop, and exchanging some emails with Cristina (who is very helpful, by the way!) I was set up for a PADI Deep Diver class. I went to the shop on the first day for a gear check. Sebastian (my instructor) had me set up my gear and went over it to make sure everything was in good working order. Everything checked out and we started going over the dives and skills that we needed to cover for the class. All good, and off to the dive boat for the first day of dives. This was a one-on-one class, so I had plenty of time to talk about the course material and other PADI specialties with Sebastian. He was very patient, knowledgeable, and thorough in answering my questions. It was a great first day of dives. Day # 2, Alejandro was my instructor. Another great set of dives. Alejandro had an AOW class going so I tagged along with them to finish the performance requirements for the Deep Dive. At first, I thought he would be more focused on the AOW students, but that wasn't the case at all. Instead, Alejandro made a point to go over the last two dives' objectives and even helped me with some in-water posture performance. This was such a great place for me to get certified! My instructor was Micheal and I asked him on the first day at the pool if he was going to make sure I learned everything I needed to know, he told me he would and he did. The owner of the shop is Cristina she is super helpful and got me ready for class and was super good at communicating locations and stuff for classes. I dove one day in a lake which was interesting and the last day was out in the ocean. The boat captain Manuel was super nice and had snacks and drinks on the boat. My instructor Michael and Sebastian were on the boat and they helped get everything ready and they made us feel safe the whole time! I appreciate Squalo Divers because I was a bit nervous to do my dive training but Micheal's methods were what I needed! Calm and no pressure. I will dive with them if I am ever back in miami! read more

It was my first time experience and i don't even know how to swim. My trainer was Paola and she was awesome very well patient and best instructor ever. I am scared of oceans but i did not feel anything like this. I learnt how to do everything and my trainer or diver paola was with me every single second checking my oxygen level, comfort level in diving suit and made sure i am ready to go. It was two different dives both were awesome she also taught us emergency tricks incase if i ever loose control. This was very memorable and most adventure thing i have ever done. I had a fantastic day with Squalo! They made special accommodations for my Sunday refresher course dive. Ilan was my instructor and he made sure I was comfortable in the pool and knew what to do even though it had been 10 years since my last dive. He tested and encouraged me through every step from assembling my equipment to deep water tests. We went out with Pompano Bay divers because The Miami boat was grounded for high winds. Overall two-1 tank divas was the perfect amount. It was a great day. Tip: bring your own food so you're not starving halfway through the day. read more

Mike and Alejandro were great. Alejandro did my boat dives for deep diving and wreck diving. The way he explained everything to me and reviewed important information to remember during the dive briefing was efficient. He was sure to point out hazards and things to never do during a wreck dive and while carrying a surface float. I ended up performing great and using little gas because I was not as anxious. 2 people took refreshment class and 2 dives. Briefly, everything was good except for 2 things: transfer and dive locations understanding. Maybe, it's not common, but it would be helpful to know transfer limitations. Squalo Divers these days does not provide this service. As well as the correct schedule. We didn't know how much time it takes. Should we take lunch or not. And second, just before booking a dive with 2 tanks, I sent the list of the scuba spots I was interested in. Squalo manager replied that I have to rely on the "captain's decision" and she would never send us to a boring place. As the result, both my wife and I were extremely unhappy about the captain's decision. We expected two interesting dives for advanced divers with food onboard. At least 2 different dives. But we got 1 spot that might be acceptable only by open water divers, not logged refreshment class, neither for PADI nor for SSI, and empty stomachs. read more

We had the most amazing time diving with Squalo Divers in Mexico the first week in July. We did 6 dives and Juan also got us set up for snorkeling with the whale sharks. This was our second time choosing this dive shop because we know the service, safety and quality we get with them. Our Hotel was in Playa Del Carmen and we would meet Juan in Puerto Morales and go from there. Juan was great at communicating everything we needed to know from where to meet, what dives we should consider and transportation to and from. We went on both wreck dives and gardens. Juan was great and made sure we saw all of the fun things on the dive. We brought our 15 and 18 year old sons this time and they are new divers. Juan made sure that they had fun diving and was careful about the safety. We will use Squalo divers every time we go here. read more

If you need swim lessons for the kiddies or you want to get dive certified, this is the place. My husband and I got certified here almost years ago & we still come back for their chartered dives. The pool has a 15ft depth for practice and they always have swimming lessons for all ages. The instructors are awesome, they are great at what they do. read more

I would definitely recommend squalo divers for anyone who is looking. I completed my open water dive with them and they were more than amazing. Anything I didn't have, I could either rent or buy. And since I don't know much about scuba, they helped me with any gear I needed. They answered any questions I had. Went there last weekend and rented two tanks and purchased a lobster hunting set. Went out but the ocean was way to rough and we decided to not risk it. We went and returned both tanks 2 hours later UNUSED and asked the guy at the counter for a refund or store credit. He stated that the owner wasn't there so to check back on Monday. Called back and was told that they wouldn't give us credit nor refund us for the two unused tank rentals. I will never do business here again. They could have at least given us credit. Stay away. Took a refresher course with Squalo after almost 4 years without diving and then went out on a boat dive. I enjoyed every moment of it! They are extremely professional, careful, and well-trained. The equipment is also quite new and everything was very comfortable and in excellent condition. Alejandro was my instructor on the boat dive and he's truly one of the best I've dived with. He was patient, careful, thoughtful, and showed me a trick when equalizing so that I felt no ear pressure for the first time in my life (this was my 14th dive in total)! I had an incredible day diving with Squalo divers! Alejandro was a fantastic guide, and had me laughing and having fun all day as well as marveling at all the features of the cenotes. I had been thinking about cavern diving for years and was not disappointed! I was nervous because although I was certified it had been a long time since my last dive, and I was put at ease. I'll start by saying that all the staff on the boat were super friendly. However, it turns out they were actually a part of Ace Diving and not Squalo, so I'm not sure how they are related. We chose Squalo because we wanted to go to Neptune Memorial from Key Largo, but the day before the trip they changed our departure location to Miami. Then the morning of the trip they said the water was too choppy to snorkel but that we could dive instead. We decided to dive, but half the boat got sick and it was not a very pleasant experience. My friend and I are certified divers, but the other 6 divers were on their checkout dive. During the dive, we had to follow one of the guides with the group of checkout divers, which hindered our ability to see as much. We were told to surface when I still had 1600 PSI left, so my dive was definitely cut short to accommodate the others. Additionally, the guide made us stop and gather together for pictures, which wasn't how I wanted to spend my time underwater. I definitely won't be diving with them again. read more

They explained everything in an understandable way, and then on the dives themselves, it was an amazing experience. Had a great experience getting open water certified at Squalo Divers. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful and goes to great lengths to ensure that instructor to student ratio is kept to 1:4 or smaller. They have a pool on site and utilize a nearby lake for part of the open water certification and skills training. It's a lot less stressful than having to go out on a boat for your first dive when you're trying to remember all of your newfound knowledge when you can just walk right into a lake and focus on skills. For our ocean dive weather was not cooperating and Squalo worked with the students to get everyone rescheduled on future dives at no charge. Highly recommend, will probably get advanced certification here. read more

They took us on some incredible dives that really make you appreciate the history of local area -- both fun & informative! They also took so many great pictures and make them available to you for free! Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Just completed a refresher course at Squalo after we hadn't been diving for 5+ years. Things have certainly changed in terms of equipment and, interestingly enough, procedures. After having spent several hours working with Alejandro, my husband and I feel much more comfortable and ready for our upcoming drive. It was an outstanding experience. Alejandro was calm, knowledgeable, patient and extremely clear in his directions. He did not move on until we satisfied him that we were able to demonstrate competency in the skills that he required of us (even the floating buddha!). Sebastian and Christina were also lovely and helpful in getting our paperwork sorted out. All in all, we were very pleased with this experience and look forward to diving with Squalo in the future. read more

I am completing different certifications through Squalo Divers this entire week. There are a lot of things going on between pool sessions and ocean dives. Cristina has been amazing getting my schedule together. I am doing Rescue Diver, Deep Dive, Wreck Dive, Sidemount certification, and Underwater Photography. Everyone has been amazing as this is the first time I have trained with Squalo. Instructor Raymond has been extremely patient and motivating, along with being a great instructor. I will continue to utilize Squalo Divers for any training, or for any diving trips in the future and recommend them to anyone who wants to become a scuba diver, or who wants to continue dive training. read more

I did a reef and wreck dive with squalo while on vacation. I called two days ahead of time and made it easy to schedule what I wanted. Kristina the wonder checked in a day ahead of time to confirm and let me know what the conditions were predicting in case we may need an alternative dive spot as a backup. I had the pleasure of meeting my guide Gary the following morning. Gary is extremely knowledgeable and as I was eager to learn he was more than happy to share some tips with me for future diving. As I had an advanced card but had not done a dive in a while he was there to refresh my memory and help every step but let me lead where I wanted to go. Gary is incredibly warm and friendly and I had an incredible experience diving with him as he pointed out some sealed underwater and taught me some useful tips on the boat. Highly recommend! They will guide you in purchasing the correct equipment for your needs and price point. I had Rick as my dive instructor and was only in a class with 3 other people. I came from NY specifically to get certified for Open Water. I found Squalo Divers through Yelp, and it was a mistake. First, the price that you are quoted over the phone does NOT include everything, and you get charged more for gear rental and are forced to buy other things before you even start. We had 2 students coming for certification dives. We were taken to the beach for shore dives, as they couldn't get a boat. Shore dives are not as good, because you need to carry all the gear, get all dirty in sand, and battle the surf and the waves - not the best experience for a beginner student. One student had an issue with that, and the dives were cancelled for both him AND me. I had an extra day before my flight back, so I didn't give it much attention, although it would be nice if MY dives were not cancelled because of another student. But I was told that I will be able to do my certification dives on Day 2 & 3, so it still worked for me. Day 2 of diving went well with Jack, a very good instructor and a pleasant person. Although, the timing was rescheduled for later in the day, and the boat we went on could only give us very limited time in the water. When I came back to the shop to schedule the next day's dive to complete my certification, I was told by Sebastian (the owner) that I will need to pay $200 extra. What??? Sebastian said that the initial fee included 2 days, and that would be Day 3. Okay, but it is not my fault that they did not do my dives on Day 1! My Day 1 dives were cancelled because of another student! Now, I was bumped to do my dives on Day 2 and Day 3! But Sebastian kept repeating the same mantra "This is a different thing, this is a different thing, this is a different thing!.." like a parrot, refusing to even listen to me. So, in short, your experience with Squalo Divers is not predictable, you will get charged more than you committed for in the beginning, your dives may not go as planned because of a variety of possible reasons, and you will need to deal with Sebastian, who will be up-selling you and treating you below your dignity. read more

I purchased a groupon with this merchant and after trying to schedule a dive, the voucher expired. I spoke to the manager, Sebastian, and he was not only rude and did not want to redeem my voucher, he told me that the amount of money the voucher was for, could not be used towards any other class, which is against groupon's terms and conditions, and that if I wanted to buy something, it would be on items he was willing to sell me for the money. Remember that this is credit I have and he wants me to spend it how he wants and chooses. Very very very bad experience and he was extremely rude. Will NEVER dive with them and I am taking legal action towards their violation of groupon. If you cannot adhere to terms and conditions, dont do business. read more

My experience with Squalo Divers as a Diver needing tank fills has not been good. They are overpriced and not timely with filling and inspections of diver's tanks. When they're untimely and it's clearly their fault for not having the tank ready as promised, they refuse to go the "extra mile" or make things right. read more
