Cordova Diving doesn't wait for large classes to fill, but structures its courses to suit the students' schedules, which resulted in my receiving one-on-one private instruction for less money than I would have paid another dive shop for an eight-student class. It was a mental and physical challenge because I was a novice, but, Michael, the dive instructor and owner, was so patient. He made it fun and interesting too. His confidence in his skills is impressive and well earned--I was constantly amazed how intuitive and observant he was in anticipating, spotting, and correcting even the smallest details of my dive experience. For instance, about the time I was wondering if my dive mask was too tight, Michael asked, "Your dive mask looks kind of tight. How does it feel? Is it too tight for you?" And, then, he helped me make the adjustment. That sort of thing happened more than once. I had an amazing vacation--the water off of Fort Lauderdale was so warm and clear--I got to dive a coral reef, see tropical fish, and I even swam with a sea turtle! I'm already thinking about going back next year and taking the Advanced Open Water course with Cordova Diving.

Michael is a fantastic instructor with tons of experience, a passion for diving, and great ability to explain technical concepts. He is also patient and adaptable, which is important when dealing with inexperienced divers, as well as the unpredictable ocean. We encountered numerous curve balls, but Michael handled them with grace in the best way possible. And above all that, he's just a pleasant person to be around. As I walked by the shop the amazing floor art caught my attention as well as a fun little dog, Ripley, who will demand you play fetch with her (ok she won't demand but it's hard to say no to her). The owners, Raymond and Charlene, invited me inside even though the shop technically wasn't open to the public yet; a really nice gesture I had thought. Once I got inside the shop I was amazed at their inventory; which has since grown exponentially since they officially opened the shop. They have products to cater to all skill levels and to those who have limited versus unlimited budgets. I eventually ended up purchasing a full set of dive equipment, and I feel like I got a great deal as they literally customized the equipment to me, fitted it appropriately and continually ensure it's in perfect working order. I honestly think I got the same price for the equipment that you would find on an online retailer but I also get the great customer service afterwards. Win/win!! Now as I've said the shop itself is beautiful, they have great products but what really really stands out about this place is their people and the experience that they're creating. This is not a "get in and get out" type of environment. This is a neighborhood dive shop that encourages everyone to stop in, drink coffee, hang out, get to know each other, and make friends. It's a perfect environment that encourages learning because they make you so comfortable right away, and they can back up what they say as Raymond and their other instructor, Ton, are top notch guys. When I stopped in the shop I had no intention of diving more than once a month, maybe. I thought diving was fun but I wouldn't say I had a passion for it. Since then I've definitely developed a passion for it because diving/training with Wonderlost is just an unreal experience. I have since completed several advanced certificates and am working towards my Divemaster, which will be a part time career for me in the future. It was such a pleasant experience, and felt very seamless from boarding to docking. Our captain was Raul, and his crewmate was Ruslan. They were both such wonderful people and they made the entire experience so smooth! I wasn't the one who organized any of the booking, but I do know that they were relatively accommodating when we were running late for our appointment. We have a party of 11 and getting everyone together at the same time to the same place can get pretty hectic. But, once again, they were very accommodating to our hectic schedule (and we were very grateful)! I wish I snapped some photos of the interior because the boat was absolutely GORGEOUS! There were 2 bathrooms (one general and one in the main bedroom) that both had functional showers, and there were about 3 bedrooms to lounge in if you didn't want to be up on the boat. Just a warning though, you cannot flush anything solid down the toilet, so make sure to toss everything in the little trash can provided! The yacht also has two floatable tubes/surfaces that you can lounge on once you are out in the water. The breeze was wonderful and the sun felt absolutely marvelous; big plus that the water wasn't cold! Super big thank you to Raul and Ruslan once again! You guys were absolutely awesome!

Captain Kevin and his assistant Margarita were incredibly professional and provided excellent service. The boat itself is incredibly spacious inside and outside the cabin, and very comfortably accommodated our group, along with a private chef for our catered excursion. We had plenty of time to "booze and cruise", swim, and take turns using the JetSki. Captain Kevin helpfully advised us on the ideal spots for each activity, and even acted as a tour guide for some of the noteworthy sightseeing hotspots we encountered. Tiffany from Y Charter was a delight to work with. She was attentive to our needs from the day I confirmed the reservation through the day of our sailing, and made herself available to answer my questions via phone and text. I wholeheartedly recommend Y Charter, and look forward to my next trip on the Carpe Diem!
