Alas, the sign on the door said no masses until July 2. Apparently, the slow ski season affects the church as well! (In spite of the fact that skiing remains open because of the heavy snow this year.) Not surprisingly, the church is locked at other times, so you can't go in for prayers or silent meditation. Nonetheless, I'm sure this church is quite popular during heavy ski times at Squaw.

We were staying across the street, so early Sunday morning I jogged across to visit. The people here were all incredibly welcoming and friendly. They even insisted I have a free cappuccino from their little coffee shop. The music director gave me a little tour around the facility, answering all of my questions, and generally just being a very nice person. He did a fantastic job leading the hymns today. It looked me like everyone in the church was singing along! The minister, Jesse, is quite an accomplished speaker. It was a challenging, yet informative message this morning. His sermon was on the Book of Ruth. This Sunday was hymn Sunday, in which they sang traditional hymns. Wow--they were all my favorites! A wonderful Fellowship full of friendly people. I cannot say enough good things about this church.

From just talking with him for a few minutes before we left, I appreciated his humility and graciousness. Worship was wonderful as well. Our pastors…read moreare wonderful teachers as well as providing good servant leadership, being an example for living a life surrendered to Christ. Our elders are also good models of godly living. Pastors and elders are warm and accessible. The diversity in our church is socio-economic and political. Our leadership has done a great job of keeping us focused on Jesus and using scripture to help us love one another when we can have such different opinions about how to live in the world. I am most impressed with the number of people in our church who do service, both at church and in the community. Volunteers provide vibrant programs for our youth and Sunday School, keep our church clean, greet both newcomers and church family, make sure there are coffee, drinks, and snacks available. We have more than enough volunteers when we do small groups who open their homes and others who facilitate. There are couples mentoring younger couples and women mentoring women. There is a prayer chain as well as text messages that go out so we know when people within our church and our community need prayer and assistance. There are ongoing men's groups. Yearly events include Family Camp in the summer and Bread and Soup the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The music provided by the worship team is contemporary and relevant and helps to open our hearts and spirits to glorify our King (it's not a too loud, and not a show) Come join us. Pastor Ed, his wife, Jenna, and all the church members were once again wonderfully warm and welcoming. Services are held in person and simultaneously also on Zoom. The liturgy and the words for the hymns are displayed on a large video screen so there's no fear of not being able to follow along. They also have an amazing spread during the social hour immediately following the service! Not just your typical coffee and cookies or donuts, but more like hors d'oeuvres and snacks!
