The other night I had got a flat tire on my way home from work and I was able to make it into the Perlis parking lot. I ended up having to leave my car in their parking lot over night but first thing the next morning I called to let them know that I would be there shortly to pick it up. The lady that I spoke to, Rachel, was very friendly and understanding. When my dad and I arrived a few hours later to get my car we were greeted by who I assume was the manager of the store. He offered my dad and I a can of Fix-A-Flat, no charge. A little while later, because my dad and I were out there for quite a while, another man came outside and offered us some bottles of water. I didn't get a chance to look around their store before leaving but I would definitely recommend this store to others based on the employees' personalities alone. I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it. And even worst French cuff button downs that are fitted for petite women that have short arms. And don't get me started with finding shirts that stay tucked in when all they are making now are low waisted pants! Mr. Martinez was so patient and kind and a perfectionist. He spent a couple of hours with me measuring and helping me select the style and fabric. And the suit shows! And my shirts? Absolutely perfect fit! He even added the extra hidden buttons in the chest area to prevent any gaps during weight fluctuations. I bought 4 shirts, pants and 2 suits. I highly recommend him. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by Maddie, and she pointed me directly to where i needed to go. They have a really great selection of nice performance material and some great button down shirts. There are a lot good pullovers as well. They have LSU logos, Sailor Mikes, Tigers, and Louisianas. Maddie was very helpful and I was happy with my quick check out and getting on my way. While I was there, it was fun to people watch the regulars and watch the interaction they were having with them.
