We try to come here once a month and it has become one of our regular family outings. We really…read moreenjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and there always seems to be some function or celebration happening. I also love seeing all the different idols around the temple. Having a young daughter, it gives us a chance to talk to her about our Gods, festivals and traditions and keep her connected to our culture. We almost never leave without eating at the cafeteria. It's always clean, food is fresh and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. My daughter is happy as long as she gets her dosa and idli, my parents love their Mysore masala dosa, and I usually stick with my medu vada and coffee. Everyone already knows what they want before we even get there lol. They have a gift shop too with a lot of idols, clothes for deities, puja items and other things for your home mandir. There is plenty of parking and the bathrooms have always been clean whenever we've visited. One thing I really wish they would add is a small playground for kids. We see so many families with children here, and I think it would be a great addition. Overall, we just enjoy coming here. We pray, walk around the temple, our daughter gets to learn something about our culture, we eat, and head home happy. Simple family time that we look forward to every month.

Not every place of worship has the same rules and if the temple administration (mostly men) wish to impose this patriarchal rule, they should train their volunteers to be kind and respectful. That child is probably never going to want to come back. Real shame.

I visited the Sri Mahaperiyava Temple in Flemington, NJ for the first time and felt truly blessed…read more It's a Shaivite temple where Mahaperiyava is revered as an avatar of Lord Shiva. Inside, the Kamakshi Ammavaru mandapam immediately caught my attention -- the walls are adorned with small, beautiful idols of Mahakali, Rajarajeshwari, Ardhanareeshwari, Varahi, and Bhairavam. The Kamakshi Ammavaru vigraham is very small, yet incredibly divine and captivating. There is another building next to the temple that includes an auditorium hall and a basement. In the basement, annadanam is served on weekends at 12:30 pm by dedicated volunteer devotees.

This has come to fruition due to the strong belief and determination of several of His devotees. You can still visit this place where they have kept His idol and few more idols of lord Ganesha and Goddess Kamakshi in the makeshift mandapam (hall that will be used for other religious services and weddings after the temple gets constructed). Parking space is humongous and can never be a problem. I look forward to seeing this temple getting completed and see His divine form soon in the new sanctum Santorum.

It took 12 years, over $100 million, and 12,500 volunteers to build this architectural wonder, and it's incredible having the second largest BAPS temple in the world right here in New Jersey, second only to the one in New Delhi, India! From the moment we arrived at the main entrance, I felt transported to a different world. Everyone in our group was in awe, and I couldn't stop taking photos. Every detail deserves admiration, from the massive statue of Nilkanth Varni at the entrance plaza and the tranquil courtyard water features, to the main Akshardham Mandir itself with its countless intricate indoor and outdoor carvings. A few helpful tips for your visit: - Welcome Center: Be sure to catch the informative intro video. There are two theaters with staggered showtimes, so just hop into whichever one has the shorter wait. - Dress Code: They enforce a strict modest dress code (e.g. shoulders and knees must be covered). Don't worry if you forget - they offer free wraps at the door so you aren't turned away. I wore shorts, and they provided a sarong to wear over them. - Footwear: You will need to take off and check your shoes before entering the Mandir. - Amenities: Near the exit, there is a cafeteria, a dessert shop, and a museum (we didn't get a chance to try the food this time, but it's great to have options).
