We approached contractors cautiously - the two jobs we had were relatively small and we weren't sure if a contractor would take them on - but we had a feeling they were too big for a typical handyman. Eli was willing to take a look and we immediately knew we had our person when he came out to see the job. Affable, kind, generous with his time, Eli explained things thoroughly, understood our intent, brought a ton of experience to the table, was conscientious of our budget, had good ideas about how to achieve what we wanted within that budget, presenting us with good, workable solutions. Professional, yes, but also impeccably clean and with an amazing attention to detail. Romero and Giovanni took great care in their craft and were just a pleasure to have in the house. Everyday the jobsite was left spotless, all the tools and materials neatly arranged in the garage at the end of the day, doors and gates locked. In the end, the work was finished exactly to our intent, the fit and finish of everything was top notch, and everything was done on time and on budget. So rare these days! We own an older home (built 1930's), with all the original fixgtures. Found out the toilet was leaking; but we didn't know how long this had been going on. We figured we would need to remove part of the floor to check for damage, and that led to the decision to remodel the whole bathroom. We solicited bids from four companies. We chose SRY because theor bid was within our budget, and they were local to us, making it easy and convenient to meet with the contractor. Their bid was within our budget, and SRY had good YELP reviews. The results met or exceeded our expectations. First, the job was started almost immediately. (Total construction time took about eight weeks, which comprised: demolition work; minor re-framing; re-plumbing and installing a new shower pan; electrical re-wiring; hanging and finishing dry wall; shower and floor tiling; fixture and lighting installation; painting.) Two workmen were assigned to the job, which we liked because we didn't have to deal with a succession of new faces. The workmen were very respectful of our space and made every effort to minimize the dust and debris. The lead workman (Romero) was very competent and efficient in all areas of the construction: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tile-laying and painting. Third, the contractor (Eli) frequently visited the job to check on its progress and inspect the work. My main circuit breaker ("CB") burnt out so I needed an electrician asap, and finding one became a task. I called three reputable electricians on yelp and left messages who never called back. I called SRY Construction & Electric and reached Eli (pronounced "El-e") who was booked that day but said he could come by within a certain timeframe to look at the CB. (Look for the before and after photos of the circuit breaker in the photos section.) My CB is a discontinued industrial GE model so Eli needed to check with his supplier to see if a replacement was available; otherwise, I would need to rewire a costly new panel. While waiting for Eli to see if he can get a replacement CB, another electrician gave a quote on rewiring since the CB is no longer available. That electrician removed my fuse panel door but didn't reinstall it; I should have had him reinstall the door. Eli's supplier subsequently found a replacement CB (see pics) so he express shipped the CB for the following day. The next day Eli installed the CB, and it was as good as new. Eli's customer service and work were excellent for several reasons, and I really appreciate his due diligence for safety first! He thoroughly cleaned my CB box before installing the new CB and impressed he repainted the CB inner door cover. While the other electrician should have reinstalled my fuse box door, Eli went to the trouble of reinstalling it for me without my asking him for safety. I reached Eli on a very busy day where he was booked but still made time to see if he could help me and showed genuine sympathy that I was without power. He showed a lot of patience especially given the fact my CB is very hard to find. Eli performed a very professional job starting with communication, research and performing the job itself. I contacted Eli after he did a garage conversion for a neighbor. He kept his appointment and was extremely pleasant. He made me very optimistic about my project (home addition adjoining main structure and garage, with some complexities at the roof line), which previous contractors had given me some concerns about. We looked it over, talked about possibilities, and established a timeline - he'd have his architect draw up something preliminary, we'd meet again, then he'd provide a full writeup, we'd sign the contract, and re-meet to plan the start of the project. I never heard from him again. No response to my calls, texts, emails. I had decided to move forward with him, but he completely ghosted me. I guess I must have come off as hard to work with or unrealistic (I promise I didn't try to lowball him or mention any $$, and I'm certain my budget is reasonable for this project). We were in need of attention to our back fence. After years of weathering, and damage by growing shrubs, it needed replacing. We called Eli Sadi at SRY Construction. In the end, our fence was replaced and reinforced with sturdier redwood which turned out to be a much better replacement. We are confident that this will last. SRY also rebuilt the accompanying stairway, much better than the makeshift one that had been there for many years. Also included was a rebuild of our retaining wall underneath the house. This was very important as the wear on the fence caused the wall to deteriorate. Eli and his team of skilled builders carefully rebuilt it thereby ensuring the integrity of the new fence and stairway along with solidifying the support of the corner of our house. The gate also needed rebuilding and this was done better than I had hoped. The lock was replaced with a better one and the strength of the gate was reinforced with metal backing which will ensure its durability for a long time to come. Overall, the work was beautiful! We admire Eli very much because of his attention to detail. He took pictures and made diagrams to show us how things would go. He is very mindful of special conditions such as aesthetic quality, fire prevention, and especially earthquake proofing. Eli used the best materials available, therefore ensuring the soundness of his work. Rest assured that he makes sure the job only has to be done once. After reading all the great reviews I was excited to have SRY do some work for us, but never even got the chance. Tried for days to schedule an estimate and got the runaround at every turn. Slow to respond, and every time I got a response it was a direct contradiction of the information they'd given me in our last interaction. Final straw was when I text him an hour after the window he gave to come out for an estimate and he said "I already told you I couldn't come out today." Um, nope. That's why I'm texting you asking if you're planning on coming when you said you did. We started off with our kitchen (putting in a tankless water heater, removing a wall, connecting to the outside with french doors, adding lighting+tiles+trim etc) and then moved onto our backyard and the garage. The guys that work with him were great and personable and even though we lived at our house during the construction, they made it pleasant. Eli also took care to give us lots of choices and options that met our design preferences. Our deck was something that was quite difficult as we were creating a new lower level and connecting it to the upper level but they did a great job keeping the continuity between both and helped turn our vision for descending step planter boxes into a reality. We first hired Eli and his team to replace the side door on our house and we were so impressed with the speed, skill and professionalism of their work that we brought them back to help us with several other projects. They replaced our roof, including tear-off of 5 layers; completely redid the plumbing -- supply and waste -- of our entire house; installed a garbage disposal and repaired tile work; rewired the electrical in our workshop; retrofitted our house for earthquakes, installing braces and sheer walls; rerouted a sump pump drain; repaired and resurfaced an outside wall that had dry rot and cracked stucco; and finally repainted the entire house!
