a deck with a pergol roof
    Angela G.

I can't rave enough about the great work done by Joe and Leo. We had an atypical project (building An enclosed pergola onto a raised deck). The team not only figured out how to do the project quickly, but made suggestions to alter our design throughout the process to make it even better than we had imagined. Pricing is fair, quality of workmanship is top notch, and customer service is better than you'll find anywhere else. We spend so much more time outdoors now!

I love my new deck he built! Joe was very responsive and communicated well throughout the project. I highly recommend his team for any deck projects.

The beautiful deck, trellis, and fence that Joe and his crew from Bumble Bee construction did!

What can I say about Joe and his crew at Bumble Bee construction?! First off when I was getting multiple estimates to build my deck, replace my gate and my fence he was the one with the lowest estimate. After he gave me my estimate, I didn't hesitate to go to him to have my work done because of all the positive reviews he had on Yelp and I'm a big Yelper! Joe gave my husband and I his expertise on lots of our projects and we always trust him with any of our house projects and we wouldn't dare see anyone else!! He's done my whole deck and beautiful trellis, replaced my gate and fence and he even stained everything so they can match! I also had him fix my rotting wood outside of my chimney and he did such a great job replacing it and painting that part to match the rest of the house! He will be back again to replace my master bedroom window and water heater door as soon as the parts come in. All I can say is if you are looking for a reliable contractor who is very reasonable and won't try to over charge you then Joe and his team at Bumble Bee are the ones you need to see. Very honest company and their quality of work is excellent!!!

We called Joe to help with a small remodel job, he responded quickly and gave us an estimate. He was able to start the job the next week and was very diligent in completing the job once it was started. We are delighted with the finished project and highly recommend Bumble Bee Construction.

I had a fan in my master bathroom crap out on me, which was weird, since I only bought my place 4 years ago, it was newly remodeled, & I even remodeled some more on top of that. My wife pointed out it wasn't working, but it looked new to me, so I popped the cover to find out...not new at all. New COVER over a fan that was a year younger than the missus. Uh oh. The old "lipstick on a pig" boogie from the prior owners/ seller. Damn. Hate getting hoodwinked. So, I think "well, better check the 'new' fan in the guest bath too." Pop THAT shiny, nice cover & ...same drill but even OLDER. Some mid-80's (I think) giant 13" circular fan they don't even make anymore. Double ugh. Last stop: laundry room. Final fan, pop the cover...whew, it's actually a new-ish fan. 1 outta 3 ain't bad, right? /sigh So I put out the feelers for an electrician (I had 2 dead outlets, 1 indoor, 1 outdoor as well) & after doing the "online quote" thing w/ Yelp, I got in touch w/ Damon @ Berkeley Home Repair. Funny dude, super helpful, quick & responsive. He schedules his electrician, Carlitos, to come out ASAP, for what I think is gonna just be a basic fan install & outlet fix job. Nope. Carlitos goes into the attic & discovers the ducts are all wrong. 3 fans running thru 2 ducts, both bathrooms on the same 4" line, & laundry room on some weird 3" duct. Now, you can get away with 4", but 6" is code & preferred, & every fan has to be on its own dedicated/ independent duct, or you're just blowing moisture from room to room & into the attic. Not good. We crawl the attic together & confirm I need a 3rd roof penetration & new ducts. So much for cheap & easy. Damn. Damon adjusts the bid (as gently as possible, considering my costs just went up almost 10x) & I wind up with 2 brand new Panasonic Whisper Quiet fans (amazing. Almost TOO quiet), a new roof penetration & cap, new independent 6" ducts for each fan, an excellent sheetrock patch & paintjob on my guest bath ceiling (prior, old-timey fan was just way too huge compared to current models) AND Carlitos fixed both dead power outlets (one of which turned out to be an arcing short/ broken wire inside the wall, which we were lucky to catch before a fire). All the workers were amazing to work with & did great on their specific parts of the now much larger order. Everyone worked quickly &, despite the gig snowballing far beyond the expected, Damon priced fairly & had the work done as fast as possible with minimal intrusion & inconvenience (crucial during these pandemic "work from home" times) Tho it was obviously a bummer to have a small job turn into a much bigger & more expensive one, I always felt like I was in good hands with Damon, his communication was clear, direct, quick & honest, & the outcome was excellent. I'll definitely be using Berkeley Home Repair for future work, since homeownership often means nasty surprises like the one I got ain't all that rare, unfortunately. Heh. At least now I know who to call to get sorted fairly & quickly. Thanks fellas! Will try to post pics when I get a chance...but most of this was "behind the scenes" work, or what my buddy likes to call "invisible money", heh.

In fact, on the call he said I could text or email him and I asked specifically which mode he preferred - he said that text would get the fastest response. So I texted. No response. I'm grateful that I didn't spend long on this company but I still wish I could get my time and energy back spent schmoozing this guy who would end up ghosting me Edit: I got a notification 35 minutes after posting this review that he commented and I couldn't be happier that I left one star. After consulting with a few different teams to deal with some serious leaking at our front stairs and rear door, we decided to go with David and the SF Remodel team. Their proposal was the most reasonable, and we especially appreciated that they specialize in water intrusion and mold remediation, which were our two biggest headaches. David, Saul, Jordan, and the entire crew were fantastic. They didn't just patch the problem; they fixed the root cause. They pulled out the old stairs, rebuilt them with proper flashing and drainage, and sealed everything with an elastomeric membrane. They also replaced all the damaged drywall underneath and added a moisture barrier, cement, and extra drainage as a failsafe. The real test came right after they finished: we had a massive rainstorm, and I'm happy to report we didn't see a single drop of water leak through. Overall, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, extremely responsive and communicative. We're already talking to them about a much bigger project to add a bedroom and bath in our garage. We couldn't recommend them enough!

They handled everything -- planning, architecture, permits, inspections, and construction -- which made a complex project much easier to navigate. The finished space matches what I had envisioned, both functionally and aesthetically. Throughout the process, the team was consistently nice, honest, and flexible. They were easy to work with, willing to accommodate changes, and I never felt pressured or intentionally misled. Their direct employees, in particular, did excellent work and were professional on site. There were a couple of drawbacks that keep this from being a full five stars. First, the project took significantly longer than expected. There didn't seem to be much formal project management, so it was often unclear when work would happen or who would be coming by. If you value tight schedules and proactive communication, you may need to push for updates. Second, the subcontractors they used weren't top-tier. The plumbers and electricians I've worked with independently were faster and more reliable. Again, their in-house crew was great -- the inconsistency mainly came from subs. That said, the final result is excellent, and I would use SF Remodel again -- just with clearer expectations about timeline and subcontractor quality going in.

We actually met with quite a few contractors before we found Mike. Honestly, the fact that he was willing to come out on a Saturday just to work around our crazy schedules told us everything we needed to know right off the bat. He didn't just listen; he offered real insight on how to open up the space and make it actually functional for our family while keeping the modern look we wanted. He helped me with materials questions, project timelines and even picked up some of the materials for me. From the beginning it was clear my satisfaction was his number one priority. The contractors HQR used on my project were equally friendly and easy to communicate with. Even when I made some changes in the middle of the remodel (which is bound to happen!) everyone was friendly and accommodating. In short, I was very pleased with the work HQR did and I would highly encourage others to include them when you are getting bids...I'm sure you won't be disappointed!
