The only pintxo spot that we went to that was not recommend to us and was an absolute hit. We loved Ssua so much we made it a point to include them in our farewell pintxo tour, and tell lots of people about them.
They have a seasonal menu here and with the bonito season coming to an end soon we had to go with the bonito, we also got the croquetas, Spanish tortilla, and a Txerritalo (bartender's rec), which was basically like a taco. While everything was good, that Txerritalo was life changing. One of the best things I ate while visiting the city. We came back the next day for that and had to each get our own this time, it was too good to share. Had we not had a few more spots to go, we easily couldn't ordered a few a piece.
First time we came in we got wine, the bartender even gave us a taste before deciding what we wanted a glass of to make sure we ended up with something we liked. Second time in I was a little sleepy so I asked if they could make an espresso martini, they made me their version of one, which included a cinnamon infused vodka, and omfg I wish their version was all versions. Such a great cocktail, I'll definitely be searching for something this good for a while.
The vibes here were cool too. Felt like something you'd see in San Francisco, really focusing on the origins of their food with their artwork on the wall, while still of course having a cool Spanish flare.
I haven't really been including the customer service in my San Sebastián reviews since it's mostly been about the food here, but I wanted to make a point to note it here because the guys at Ssua were awesome.
We happened upon this spot when they were closed but noticed an employee in front and asked when they opened, after chatting and joking around a bit we learned he was the chef, which made us more excited to go back. Went back the next day and we were helped by Daniel, another awesome guy filled with great recs both for Ssua and San Sebastián in general. Didn't catch the name of the guy that helped us on our next visit in, but again a nice guy filled with jokes and good service. read more
