At the end of my child's preschool/ETK year, she was able to read and write numbers, sight words, and even learned how to sing ABC's backwards. They were also taught simple poems and given rewards for memorizing it at the end of the week. Ms. Acosta was very helpful and worked alongside Ms. Trickett. They were a good team. Our plan was to transfer our child to another top rated school in Gardena after ETK, but this all changed when the Mandarin Immersion Program came into fruition. We have no Mandarin background and were uncertain if this was the right program for her. We took a leap of faith and are so happy with our decision as our child is now a flourishing 2nd grade English and Mandarin speaker, reader, and writer. Ms. Zhu, Ms. Han, and Mr. Chen are all top notch and are assets to Chapman. They're full of energy, dedicated, and hardworking. The kids are thriving because of their amazing teachers. The class size is also smaller than the regular program and comparable or even better than a private school. The kids and parents always have a great time when we have our beach and park play dates, until COVID-19 came along. The parents are always supportive and ready to lend a helping hand. Homework is often challenging because of our non existent Mandarin background, but the moms in our second grade group are a great support system and provide reassurance that everything will be ok. It's like being in a tight knit family. I'm excited to see what the future holds for my child and her peers. It is a privilege to be a part of the sole Dual Language Mandarin Elementary School in the South Bay. Thank you, Chapman! https://chapmanes-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/

For math, you should consider taking Mr. Yamachika's classes, if interested. He teaches math in a very interactive way which will catch most student's attention and hopefully your child will excel in math like mine did. I can only refer teachers based on the ones we personally knew but you should rest assured knowing that your child will SUCCEED here if he/she WISHES TO DO SO. One thing I do regret is not enrolling/following-up on the Magnet program here while my son attended Peary but he did take AVID classes. That is an alternative program if you missed the application deadline for Magnet. Please take advantage of all the programs LAUSD has to offer. It is our responsibility as parents to do our part as well. Sadly, there are many negative reviews here - please do not let that discourage you. It's all up to your child. I believe in this school so much so that I have enrolled my daughter into the Magnet program at Peary. She just started her first day yesterday. Let's go Huskies! Here are a few more excellent teachers we had the pleasure of knowing a few years back. Ms. Smith-Nobles (English/History) Mr. Fletcher (P.E.) Mr. Lagasca (History) Mr. Fokwah (Science) Mrs. León (AVID) Ms. Irons (English) Ms. Knight (Science) We missed a few teachers and I apologize for that. I simply wanted to share this review as soon as possible with the hopes that people will not be deceived by the negative reviews. Hope this helps.

Something we had never experienced before. It ended up being one of the best decisions we could have made. At ECMSG, the Dean and his team did an incredible job holding my son accountable for his negative behavior while also recognizing and reinforcing his positive efforts. That balance truly helped him get back on track. Because the school is smaller, there is much more individual attention and staff really pay attention to the details. The supervision staff genuinely care about the students and build healthy, supportive relationships with them. On days when my son wasn't feeling his best, he could easily request a check-in with the counseling team, which made a huge difference. The office staff is always warm and welcoming. They consistently go above and beyond their job descriptions. The school also provides strong support for parents by clearly explaining the grading system and offering tutoring to help students stay on top of missing assignments. The Special Education department is patient, accommodating, and incredibly supportive. The Principal is highly involved not only with the students, but with the surrounding community as well. He builds meaningful relationships with the kids and truly listens to parents. He has an open-door policy and never makes you feel like your concerns aren't important, which was very different from our previous experience. Their outdoor education program is another highlight. The students learn hands-on skills and how to solve real-world problems in meaningful ways and we get invited to come hear the kids present on their learning. I am extremely pleased with our experience and highly recommend ECMSG to any family looking for a smaller, supportive school environment where students are truly seen and supported.

I especially appreciate how involved the principal is in everything happening on campus. What stands out the most to me is the strong support system and the clear communication the school provides to both students and parents. We are very grateful to be part of this community.
