There is always a cafe car and real perk is they serve Starbucks coffee. It's now all cashless. Have also taken the late train out of NYC that has a dining car. You are served with China, sterling silver flatware and coffee pot and white table linens. Have recently taken the train out of the downtown station. The train left after 4am and we were in NYC between noon and 1pm. It was the perfect option for our transatlantic cruise that was departing at 7pm. The cruise port is only 2 miles away but with Manhattan traffic it was 20-25 minutes. For most of the ride I was able to have my own seat so was able to nap. Once we got to Poughkeepsie every seat was filled. When we arrived in NYC there were a good number of conductors to easily guide you in the right directions.

There's a good amount of parking outside and it's easy to find being just off Main Street. They did a great job building this facility and Niagara Falls should be very proud.

There is currently some preliminary information on display. I saw no one in the entire complex except a lone janitor desperately searching for something, anything at all, to clean. This station is still pristine with that new car smell so it will be a while before anything gets dirty. This is a small but very nice station that would make waiting for a train quite relaxing. Once the museum opens in 2017, it will offer a glimpse into the exciting history of this remarkable city that struggles to regain its footing in the 21st century.

As boarding time approached, there were more announcements made. The train was four minutes late. No big deal.. Amtrak has coach and business class. The train is comfortable and seating is open. Once the train has started, the conductor comes by for your ticket and scans them. He places markers above your chairs to indicate he has checked your ticket. We have many more stops to arrive at our destination.

After an easy drive on the QEW, we entered the town of Hamilton. Then the drive turned nerve-wracking as the streets narrowed, the stop lights multiplied, and the neighborhoods became numerous. All these things made the stop and go execution painful. When we finally arrived at the GO station, we were confused because there are NO signs indicating that the Station entrance is for BOTH trains and buses. Because we were looking for the Toronto bus and could only see train tracks, we drove around the block and turned into a neighborhood looking for help. Luckily, a nice lady saw us and told us they were one in the same, and that we could park on the RIGHT side of the road in a drop-off area. There were signs, but too small to actually read while driving on the two-lane one-way street. All in all, very confusing and just too stressful. We'll use another GO station further east to avoid this next time!

That means take time to look around you and up to see stunning views. As a station, Union Station is often clean. There are plenty of shops and places to sit and rest. They also have art exhibits throughout. The subway and express train to the Pearson Airport connect to Union Station making it easy to explore!

It was easy to take the TTC subway to Union Station, and the station itself was easy to navigate thanks to the numerous signs throughout. One tip: check the departure screens for platform information, as your train's platform may not be posted until closer to departure time. It was a little difficult to find staff when I had questions, but fellow travelers were generally friendly and willing to help. The station is beautiful and has many shops to browse while waiting for your train. I also found the train fares to be reasonable.

The "decorations" were scarce and raggedy, absolutely none at the station. Promised photo opportunities but there were absolutely none and had to snap pictures in a hurry of the ONLY festivity (the Clauses). No christmas music or lights, no cookies and the cocoa was box cocoa watery. I held such high hopes to a stop in south dayton at the park were a bunch of festivities were also happening, and their site states they stop, but instead yhe train went very slowly just outside of gowanda (where you board) leaving one side of the train to look at a hill and the other down the hill. Boarding on and off was treated like hearding cattle rather than welcoming. My family had never rode a train and some traveled from and hour plus away in rough winter weather, for major disappointment. I wish this was as magical as they claim. ​

The rail line is from the 1850's. The equipment is well-used but in reasonably good condition and pleasant for the trip through Western New York countryside. Excursion trains are not fast. You'll get to enjoy the scenery. Curiously, NY&LE would like to extend their excursion service to Hamburg, Buffalo, and Niagara Falls. That would be awesome!
