Think hard, don't lie to yourself... Does your child need a bit of support academically? Do you…read morethink they might? Do you want small class sizes? Are they on meds that need to be administered at school? Are they Neurodiverse (Dyslexic, Anxiety, ADHD, Autistic, Dyscalculia, etc.)? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this school probably isn't for you. We really loved the school when the kid was younger. But, partway through the lower school, supports and amenities suddenly got a lot more scarce! The Middle School is even worse. Were the staff at fault? Usually not. Decisions were made and the kids that needed a bit of help paid the price. There isn't a school nurse. They have remodeled some of the specialist-type classrooms to convert them into classrooms. There has been quite a bit of staff leaving in the last 5 years. There isn't a real 9:1 kid to teacher ratio in practice, they use alternative accounting practices including counting staff members like the librarian (kids see the librarian for an hour or less per week while most teachers rush back to their rooms for preparation time leaving the librarian often alone with the kids). Teacher assistants in the lower school are not necessarily full time and are often pulled from class to cover teachers and things like playground duties. The administration is actively trying to add more students per class, and more classes overall, as all administrators are prone to do. In short, while it is a beautiful school, it isn't for everyone. Try not to be dazzled and ask the hard questions. See if this is right for your family. It is an expensive question to get wrong.

Classrooms smell of mildew and despair; projectors flicker like dying fireflies; the Wi-Fi collapses under the weight of a single email. The teaching staff? A revolving door of burnt-out zombies who read aloud from PowerPoint slides they downloaded in 2008, then vanish into their offices to avoid eye contact with confused students. Exams are recycled from a decade ago; grades are assigned by dartboard; "research" consists of padding CVs with predatory journals that charge for publication. The career center offers mock interviews that leave graduates less employable than before, and the alumni network is a graveyard of broken promises and crippling debt. This place doesn't educate--it extorts. It doesn't inspire--it infects. It's a gilded toilet bowl spinning prestige out of stolen tuition, a carnival barker selling snake oil to the desperate. If integrity had a grave, this school would be dancing on it. Shutter its doors, auction its furniture, and let its name be erased from memory like the stain it is.

I am considered an expert in the field of early childhood education with many years' experience as…read morea trainer, writer, consultant, administrator and teacher. Over the years, I have observed and conducted comprehensive, objective observations of over a hundred preschool classrooms. I am also the grandmother of a student who was enrolled in the Peer Inclusion Preschool class at Stanley Elementary School in Tacoma Washington. This school and this class is by far the worst program I have ever encountered. The teacher is unqualified to teach a Peer Inclusion Preschool Class. Certified elementary teachers are required to have Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Special Education training to earn endorsements for their credentials to teach this class. It does not appear the district has provided training of any kind for her. Her teaching methods betray her lack of knowledge about child development, about how young children learn, or the standards for best practice. The way she teaches is a good example of the way preschoolers were taught in 1975. She does not implement the Tacoma School District designated curriculum for preschool. The children do not have access to the books and toys in the classroom. There is almost no communication from school to home. Parents are not allowed to observe in the classroom or to see the curriculum, which is illegal. The classroom is dirty. The children are sick way too often. On at least one occasion, (and presumably more), the children are not given the meal components on the posted menu. On that occasion they were given a single piece of pizza and water (no milk, no fruit, no veggies). The principal is aggressively rude, disrespectful, dishonest and unprofessional. The district was not helpful. Nothing changed. Nobody seemed to care.

As a parent of a nonverbal autistic child, I am extremely disappointed in the way Kid's Country…read morehandled our experience, especially after a change in leadership. While the previous staff showed care and compassion, everything changed under the new director. What's most troubling is that the director claimed to have experience working with children with disabilities, yet she refused to make any effort to communicate with my nonverbal child. No visual cues, no gestures, no attempts at understanding, just avoidance and blame! Instead of support, I was repeatedly asked to leave work shortly after drop-off, because the staff couldn't "manage" her behavior, behavior that is common for children on the spectrum. My child was even referred to as "wild," which is dehumanizing and unacceptable. They also made it clear that they wouldn't allow her to attend without a one-on-one aide, which they provided no assistance in arranging. Meanwhile, when my child was bitten or pushed by other children, I was rarely informed, but if she had any issue, it was escalated immediately, making it clear she was being singled out and unfairly targeted. This is not a safe or inclusive space for neurodivergent children. If your child has a disability, especially if they're nonverbal or any child period. Please seek a center that not only says they support inclusion but actually practices it.

My nephew attends Kids Country, as well as his sister, and they have both been enrolled there for…read moreyears, along with other family members. Since he has been attending, two coats have been stolen, most recently his winter coat within the last two weeks. When the first incident occurred I mentioned it to the staff and decided to let it go, purchasing a new coat instead. Recently, my nephew was picked up by his father, who inquired about the location of his winter coat, to which the staff had no knowledge. My three-year-old nephew stated that another child took it, and the staff confirmed that my nephew had informed them that another kid who was leaving had his jacket, but they ignored it. I immediately requested that the staff contact the parent to retrieve the new winter coat, as my nephew had to leave the facility wrapped in a blanket. The facility has stated that the parent has not returned the child since and that the child left the jacket at a different school. This situation is unacceptable, and I am left with no choice but to file a police report. Why should I be required to continue purchasing new coats, labeling them with his name, only to have someone else take them if they like them, which is ridiculous!

When my son finally started up Kindergarten, he was considered advanced due to the attention he received. Their summer camp program is a lot of fun for the older kids. They have an event set up at the location or they are out traveling to different locations (parks, restaurants ect). I originally had my kids set up for summer camp through their elementary school, but quickly found out that Acheivement Center had a better set up. It was worth the extra traveling time to have them set up here (we live in puyallup but I work in Tacoma) Acheivement center really is a great set up. Every employee greets the children and acknowledges them, even if they are just walking by. My twins, who are currently 1.5 years old are also lucky enough to attend here and have grown so much socially since starting. I really can't say enough about this place. It has become my children's home away from home.

I also got no such compensation on my bill for having to do such. My other little annoyance with the facility itself is the parking, the spots aren't marked and people just park all over the driveway like idiots at times which makes it very difficult to safely get in and out.

Our kids are very athletic and we have one that is attending a D2 school on athletic scholarship and our other children are competing in sports and getting play time and those sports that LCA does not offer, like Lacrosse, they are able to play through our neighborhood high school. I've watched it decline more and more since I graduated. The grade level education does not meet the level of education at public schools and especially does not compete with other private schools. Many students who left Life Christian felt under prepared at other schools because of the gap in education. Math and science programs are purposely under funded. The nepotism, rampant misogyny and over sexualization of young women, and unhealthy power dynamics should send any parent running from this institution.
