My previous review was deleted because it was not "positive", so I've added a star out of sheer chivalry and kindness. If you hate your kid, send them to Annie Wright. Genuinely. If you want to emotionally disrupt your child, I implore you to take a second mortgage on your house for the tuition. This school ruins students. The staff plays such disturbing emotional games that if this level of corruption were to be happening at a public school it'd be all over the news. Save yourself two Kia Sorentos and put your wallet away. This school is NOT worth it. And as a message to the admin of the AW yelp, feel free to delete my review. I have an abundance of time to repost and spread my views on your institutionalized prison. Welcome to the worst money ever spent. If your child is already suffering from any sort of mental disorder then please, for the love of god, take the money you'd spend on a year of Annie Wright's tuition and put it into their college fund. If your child is seemingly mentally stable then please, for the love of god, don't allow their self-confidence, self-worth, self-respect, and self-importance to deteriorate five/seven days a week. My personal experience with Annie Wright has been beyond negative. From false accusations based off of he-said-she-said and no solid evidence to consequences so severe even the day-side of Annie Wright began to question the validity of my child's sentence. I will digress that my child has made mistakes while living in the dormitory, however, there is no such thing as acceptable punishment in the dorms: the rules keep piling up until you are drowning in contradictory statements. The role of legal guardianship dissolves into the role of a client when sending one's child to Annie Wright. The "dorm parents" (megalomaniacs) have a firm belief that they are entitled to enforce whatever form of emotional abuse or social exclusion they deem necessary in order to force said child into submission. These people act as though they are bitter foster parents only invested in your children for the money (which is basically the role of a dorm parent). Not only does Annie Wright feed off of the depersonalization of its students, faculty will use any necessary level of emotional manipulation to turn every independent-thinking child into a sheep. There is no limit that faculty will not reach to get their way. By sending your child to Annie Wright you are basically sending them to a personality slaughterhouse. Annie Wright only agrees with independent thoughts of their own standards which are typically in a way that does not contradict or question the institution itself, rather the playful and polite debate in the classroom setting. Children become mind-controlled subservient sheep inside of the dorm walls. The hierarchy runs off of favoritism and the "dorm parent"'s ideal amount of compliance. On a more positive note Annie Wright does not believe in racial discrimination. All students are degraded based upon the amount of dislike due to individuality as opposed to their race. Annie Wright looks great on paper, almost even better on the tours they brainwash their "ambassadors" into giving. However, the dark truth is that the only thing Annie Wright is invested in is business. read more

Despite the stated claims, the head of school does not proceed with a mission to provide an exceptional education to students within the community. Its very clear the intent is to fulfill other goals for the school. It has been speculated that these goals are lead with a desire to grow the school in terms of student enrollment and to limit the enrollment to students who possess superior academic abilities. This speculation supported and is evident by the upper school's student demographics. The head of schools can be very convincing but truly lacks the integrity to follow thru with what he promises to families with an obvious lack of consideration to the ultimate impact to the students. He will say nothing but positive things about your child when he has ulterior motives and then have nothing but negative feedback just weeks later, when he is not driven with self-serving motives. It should be very much stressed that Annie Wright student enrollment contracts are very much one sided. Once the contract is signed, parents are on the hook for the annual tuition. They are very unforgiving and rarely allow a break in the contract. They can, and have repeatedly, required students to leave the school mid-year, without merit, and still require a full year's tuition. Please read the entire contract and be ready to pay for an entire year, even if you, or the school, concludes Annie Wright its not a good fit for your student. ~ A recent job post suggests they are are hiring teachers for and have partnered with Baishan Education, based in Qingdao, China, to offer an Upper School program (Grades 9-12) to Chinese students who wish to pursue a university education in an English speaking country. How quickly the headmaster has diverted from his goal of "serving the local community" as he openly campaigned to gather enough support to achieve approval in construction of the Upper Boys School. This school is horribly prejiduced!! My children wanted the best for their three year old and enrolled her there. She was apparently their "token" african American student to prove that they are diverse. There were barely any children of color there, but this wasn't a considered deal breaker upon enrollment. After paying what is potentially a monthly "mortgage amount" we expected to notch care. My grand daughter went a whole day without food because they stated the microwave was broken and they couldn't warm her lunch! Really, one microwave in the whole school?? When asked why didn't they call instead of sending a sticky note at the end of the day on her lunch box, or give her a Hot meal and have them pay, they said "they didn't want to assume." Really?? She was sooo hungry when picked up. Unbelievable! Her name wasn't put up for birthday like the rest of the children for some odd reason.. hmmm. She had apparently came down with fever one day and they "emailed" my son vs called (he works and doesn't sit on emails all day). This caused my grand daughter to get worse and she ended up with the first flu virus in her life. In addition, she was found wandering the halls one day with no shoes on and her parents were told she didn't want to put on shoes. She's three! After an unresolved meeting with the school officials, my children removed her. Well, somewhere hidden in their fine print, the tuition of $1,400 per month still had to be paid and auto deducted for a period of time. This so called prestigious school is that in name only!! We are finding out there are many more disgruntled parents as well and even African American employee (singular as there aren't many employed there), feel the same. I am curious how the community of AWS feels about the hiring of multiple faculty from another local private school who were found to be behaving inappropriately and hired anyway? We recently toured AWS for our child and after speaking to folks in the community found that several faculty were hired from other private schools after quitting mid-investigation for rumored behavior like inappropriate and creepy behavior with teen girls, dishonesty, and public knowledge of ongoing affairs with colleagues. Grown men who text with teen girls should not be teaching in any school; public or private. I have heard they either did not bother to background check teachers with all former employers. That's terrifying. AWS has even elevated members of their faculty to Senior Leadership Team positions knowing they were engaged in cheating scandals at work with colleagues while married. Ew. This is NOT the kind of moral compass I want modeled for my child. Is there no ethical hiring and retention of highly paid professionals in private school of the greater Tacoma area or is this how all private schools operate? Given the number of faculty with tainted and questionable backgrounds at AWS, we are considering moving to Seattle to avoid faculty who do not behave in ways that I want modeled for my children. read more

This place sucks ass. All the teachers are disgusting baboons and I don't think this is a good place for my child. As a mother, I would never want my daughter in such a place. With the teachers racist remarks and harsh attitude I don't think any child deserves that kind of treatment. As a woman of color I don't accept or approve of the discrimination towards my child. Any parents out there who want to send their child there, DONT! It is the worst type of school you could send them to and I would much rather prefer a public school.
