I loved staying here! The inn is so charming quaint. My favorite parts about the inn were the very clean rooms, quiet at night, include breakfast, affordable pet friendly fees, grate location, and the attached restaurant and bar. The only downside was the elevators were broken. The staff help bring my bags so it didn't bother me too much. Next time I am in New Orleans I will be staying here.

After staying near Bourbon Street for a few days, I needed a break from the chaos. With a big UFC fight happening in town and hotel prices skyrocketing in the French Quarter, my husband and I decided to switch things up and head to the Garden District. We chose The Saint Charles Inn--and it turned out to be a great decision. The hotel was super clean, the service was excellent, and it offered something that's almost unheard of in New Orleans: free parking. The location is ideal--quiet, charming, and with easy access to the trolley, making it simple to get anywhere in the city without the noise and crowds. As a bonus, Superior Grill, located right in the lobby, was fantastic for dinner. Great food, great atmosphere, and super convenient after a long day exploring. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a peaceful, affordable alternative to the French Quarter without sacrificing location or comfort.

We found the St Charles Inn by pure luck. And lucky we were! What a lovely place! At this price point, I wasn't expecting it to be so nice.  A very pleasant lobby and a relaxing patio where you can watch the world go by.  The trolly stop was about a half block away and it takes you directly to the start of Bourbon Street.  A 24-hr pass is $3 and it operatea 24 hrs.  The hotel had touch of old world charm such as wide hallways with nice chairs and a table for your convenience.   The complimentary toiletries were upgraded.  Even the disposable plates at breakfast were special: bamboo in appearance and very sturdy.  I liked that an innocuous game show was on the TV during breakfast so no one needed to endure a news channel that didn't sync with their political beliefs!  Our room was spacious with nice furniture.   There was even an extra sink outside of the bathroom with a Kerig coffeemaker.  One warning...the light switch by the entrance also provided electricity to the lamp on the bedstand and the ceiling fan.  My phone was plugged into the lamp and when the wall switch was turned off, my phone stopped charging.  A surprise to me when I woke up the next morning to see my phone was only at 16%. Breakfast consisted of bagels, bread, muffins, mucrowavable breakfast sandwiches, fruit, yogurt, bottles of juices, bottled water,  and coffee.  Hygenically thoughtful with a good variety.  There is gated parking for 28 vehicles.   It felt safe and you borrowed a remote for for the length of your stay.  There was an area for overflow parking nearby but once you had a gate remote, you didn't have to worry about needing to park in the overflow area. Adjacent to the hotel is restaurant called Superior Grill that serves Mexican food.  Pretty ambience,  decent food, and if I'm an judge,  strong margaritas.

This hotel is aged. Upon entering the hotel the foyer is very nice the day time front desk people are not very friendly except for the maids and man helpers they greet you and are very nice. The night shift man at the is extremely nice, friendly and helpful. (We stayed 7 days) The WiFi does not work very well, at all the first day we were there they had a technician come in then they said it was just the room was too far away, the gym is closed and the rooms need work -towel bar falling down tub drain really full of hair (gross) Continental breakfast was good have trouble getting coffee refilled TV had Texas Chain saw massacre. Parking was great. The area is very nice good location and great to walk and look at the houses. You can also catch the street car almost right outside hotel.

This hotel meets all paw parents needs and more! We arrived very late and the front desk concierge was just so welcoming to us. The hotel parking lot which is in the back - and free - was full, but she gave us a placard for out car window and we were able to park right in front of the hotel. She offered us some yogurts, fruits, cookies and juices and there was a lovely cake sitting on the counter for guests to help themselves, Snacks for guests were available all the while during our stay. We never left the room during the stay due to illness, so the restaurant next door was the only place where we got some food. It's Tex-mex if you like that and it was just ok for me. The hotel breakfast each day was substantial with eggs, potatoes, different sweet pastries, fruits, cereals -cold and hot, yogurt, coffee galore and all types of bottled juices. Even a picky eater should be able to find something delicious to eat at their morning breakfast. The hotel is quite old and with that you get older building charm, so people that complain that that floors slope etc really shouldn't. You will slouch when you are old also. The location is perfect for public transportation or grabbing an Uber to your destination for as you know NO is not a parking friendly town. Now for the 4 paws up experience. This hotel is dog friendly and they really do treat their canine friends like royalty. Dog bowls with fresh water are located everywhere and at check-in Cleo receive complimentary US made treats. The hotel was teaming with well mannered pups who greeted each other like dogs do, the international butt sniff handshake, then let's play. Lots of green space to walk your pooch around the neighborhood or across the street where the trolley runs. Amazing hotel and lovely staff, highly recommend if you are traveling with your pet as it is fairly close to the CampBowWow for daycare if your sight seeing and need a day camp for your dog during the day or even an over night while your get a little dranky!

    King size bed and room

The facility was clean but very old. The elevator is tiny, and while the website boasts to be pet friendly the staff are not. They are discourteous to your pets and complain when they bark. Dogs do bark and the sounds of a hotel can trigger that. Especially when cleaning staff closet is off of your room and someone is in there moving around. The air conditioning was somewhat effective. The bathroom was clean and the bedding was clean. Overall the room was nice and hotel was clean, my issue was with the hotel staff especially the older concierge she acted very affronted by anything you did. Every-time she saw me walking in or out with my dog she gave me a disapproving look. She made my stay uncomfortable and was rude to her staff she was training the day I checked in. It was the girls first day and she was rude to her and acted as though checking me in was a problem for her. I expect staff to be friendly and kind to there guest not act like your a nuisance when your paying to stay there.

Best Western is like the McDonald's of hotels. You get a standard level of service that you can pretty much expect nation wide. Some franchise locations are nicer than others, some not so. This particular establishment is located on beautiful, quiet St. Charles Street with a slew of old antebellum homes and large oak trees. This Best Western has a private parking lot where Rewards members can park. You will need to agree to a $50 deposit to receive the remote for access. The deposit will be refunded as long as you return the remote. The gated lot allows you to come and go as you please with your remote clicker. If you aren't a Rewards member or you have several cars per room, you will have to find street parking. There are free spots along the hotel side streets, but over busy holiday weekends like Labor Day, you might have trouble locating one. If you park on St. Charles, you'll have to move your car by 8:00 AM. After securing parking, it's best to walk outside the door of the hotel and catch the historic St. Charles Streetcar into town for a $1.25 (exact change), or better yet, download the app and buy a day or multi-day pass with your credit card. Use your phone to scan your electronic ticket each time you get on the Streetcar or bus. This streetcar does not have A/C. The windows will be down to catch the breeze, but it will still be hot. The hotel is three stories. It has an elevator, but it stopped working briefly while I was there. No one got stuck, and thankfully maintenance had it running within a few hours. Lobby has breakfast until 9:30 AM. In the evenings, they often put out cookies, cake and fruit punch. Room has a window A/C unit in the wall. It was adequate for keeping the humidity at bay, but I still got warm, especially in the bathroom where the air didn't seem to flow. Think of the hum of the fan going all of the time as white noise. Although, the white noise wasn't really needed as the hotel was very quiet. My room had 2 double beds and two separate sinks with vanities. One sink/vanity was by the door as you entered the room. The other was in the bathroom with the tub and toilet. This is really convenient if you have several people staying in a room. It allows multiple people to get dressed and cleaned up at the same time. Sadly my bathtub was not draining properly, so each day I was standing in ankle deep water by the time I finished showering. One of my sinks was slow to drain to. My room had a microwave and fridge as well as coffee machine. I made use of the fridge. There is a vending machine down the hall for buying sodas and water. Staff were very pleasant here. They always greeted me as I entered the hotel if they weren't busy with a customer. Price was somewhat expensive, but that was to be expected on a holiday weekend. Still probably cheaper to stay here with free parking and use of the cheap streetcar rather than paying $40 a day for a more expensive hotel downtown. Uber was also easy to order. It would have been just as easy to walk or bike into town. St Charles takes you right downtown, but it's a bit of walk. Even on the slow going streetcar expect about a 30 minute leisurely ride. There are several restaurants and bars on this street too, so you don't have to go downtown if you want to just hangout in the area. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The second time I stayed here. This hotel isn't perfect but I still gave it 5 stars, let me explain. I will get the negative out of the way. This is a historic hotel. Therefore, the way it is built is how they built back a long time ago where rooms were smaller. The rooms are a little on the smaller side, and the hotel overall is a bit dated/a little musty. That is the only negative. Positives: Best customer service. Gary who works around the hotel is one of the sweetest guys, and all the ladies at the front desk always greet you with a smile. Sometimes for breakfast, the ladies will make something at home and bring it in for guests to try. These little personal touches set this hotel apart. It's really a family. Their breakfast is hands down one of the best. So many options, juices, coffees, toppings, eggs, sausage, breakfast sandwiches, corn dogs, fruit, grits, and sometimes cajun dishes as well. Delicious! We rarely even bother eating out while there unless a special occasion. With a microwave and fridge in every hotel room, we just stock up at breakfast and bring it back to the room for later. Truly a money saver! Speaking of money saver, free parking. That is VERY hard to come by in the city! They have a free, secure, parking lot first come first serve, and it is small. Don't worry though! They have an overflow parking lot, also free, literally a few steps away. So free parking is a yes! Having stayed in the French quarter before, I know some places can charge 40 dollars a night for parking with no in and out privileges, valet only. What a pain when you want to explore the city! So st. Charles inn wins the parking game hands down! St. Charles Inn has reasonable/lower priced rooms compared to all other hotels and air bnb's in the area. Especially when you think about the location, access to French quarter, free parking, and the amazing breakfast. Truly the best value in the city! We normally pay around 130-150 per night. Sounds steep but we have stayed at hotels in the french quarter and paid 150 a night PLUS 40 dollars per night for parking. So definitely much cheaper! But just as good! Access to the French quarter is easy peasy. Unfortunately...lol...I have never used it for our own reasons but I hope next time I go back I can use the streetcar/trolley. Right outside of the hotel, a few steps away is the stop for the streetcar. I believe it runs every 30 minutes and takes u right into the French quarter. So no car? No problem! VERY accessible. Safety: right in the garden district (so not French quarter but close) I feel very safe walking around any time of day. Even safer than in the French quarter. The garden district is beauktfil, beautiful architecture, new Orleans flair, and feels safer. Love it! This is my family's go to hotel when we go into New Orleans now. If you don't mind a hotel that is a little dated and weigh all the value it does have, location, price, accessibility, breakfast, customer service, then I recommend this hotel 100% over any hotel in the city or near the French quarter. I hope you choose this hotel and enjoy! I just left and miss it and all the staff already!

The 2 things I care most about when staying in a hotel is a comfortable night's rest and a good bathroom/shower. The bed in our room was the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on in my entire life. It was so mushy that when you laid your head down, you sunk so far into it that your legs were literally 45 degrees above your head. I ended up sleeping upside down in the bed with my head where your feet go in order to feel even remotely comfortable. The pillows were all extremely flat, when you put your head on one it sank so far your face was about 1/2 inch from the mattress. I had to use 3 pillows stacked on each other. I had a stiff back, neck and joints the entire time we were there. The 2nd issue was hot water. The first morning, we attempted to shower, it only got barely luke warm for me and when my husband showered immediately after he only got ice cold water. We stopped at the front desk that morning on our way out for the day and told the woman at the front desk. She said she hadn't received any other complaints so it must be specific to our room and she would send engineering there to look at it. (we were getting hot water in the sink). Later that evening when we returned to our room, we immediately tested the shower again and it was still ice cold. So we went back to the front desk to check if engineering had come. We spoke to the same woman from the morning who acted like it was the first time we were telling her this and she said the exact same thing. I asked if they were going to come ASAP because we needed to shower soon and we couldn't take ice cold showers. She ignored my question and answered the ringing phone. A manager happened to be at the desk and overheard our conversation. He asked what our room number was and said that because of the old building and the pipes the hot water takes longer to get there. He said this was a KNOWN Issue by the staff, management and the owner. He told us to run the shower for AT LEAST 15 to 20 minutes, simultaneously with the sink and it should get hot. He also offered to move us to a different room but when I asked if he could guarantee if we wouldn't have the same problem in that room he couldn't give me a straight answer. We had already unpacked everything and didn't want to go through that hassle without a guarantee. So we went back to the room and let it run for 20 minutes and it eventually got hot. So for the remaining 3 mornings, we had to set our alarms for 30 minutes earlier so we could get up and run our shower before hand. For nearly $300 a night, we felt that this was ridiculous. Old building or not, if its a problem, then either don't put people in those rooms, or get it fixed somehow. Why should anyone be subjected to an ice old shower or an inconvenience to their time because the owner hasn't done anything about it? We visited the hotel Bar, the Bourbon O'bar 3 times during our stay and each time we received TERRIBLE service. None of the bartenders were friendly to us, in fact they were pretty rude. Each time it took them at least 10 minutes to even take our order (by standing there and looking at us and not saying anything). The bar was not busy or crowded any of these times. They would then start making one of our drinks, put it down and make other people's drinks, leave and go into a back room, play on their cell phone, talk to each other, or carry the glass around while doing other things. My husband ordered an old fashioned and the alcohol was sitting in the jar with the ice for over 5 minutes while the bartender carried it around doing other things, causing it to get watered down. When making a cocktail, it should be completed from start to finish without doing other things in the middle. I ordered the Mardi Drop cocktail on 2 different days. The first time, it was actually very good. The 2nd time from a different bartender it was horrible .He also sprinkled probably a tablespoon of cinnamon on top of it (which the first didn't have) which made it nearly undrinkable. I had to stir it into the martini in order to not get a mouthful of cinnamon with each sip. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant Roux because of the bad Yelp reviews - we felt we could get a better breakfast elsewhere outside the hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all unless you don't care about being comfortable or friendly service.
